“Family beach house”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2016

The Martin house is a typical beach house located on the ocean side. The porch is the best feature. It is large and partially shaded which is good for those who wish to sit on the deck and watch the ocean but not get too much sun. I could see the beach where the kids were playing. The kitchen was well equipped with what ever you would need for a stay at the beach. It is listed as with no grill but you could rent either a gas or charcoal one. Actually there was a small charcoal in the locked laundry room. The grill was located under the house which meant stairs up and down to check on it when cooking. Near grocery stores and restaurants.

We enjoyed r stay home was nice but we had a ant problem and no grill deck were very spacious house was very roomy

Response from the manager Thank you for sharing your vacation experience with us. As you found, a grill is not provided at Martin House. You can add a grill to any reservation so please let us know if you'd like to do this for future vacations. I am sorry to hear of the ant issue. Our homes are treated regularly to keep such pests at bay, but from time to time an additional treatment is needed. Please call us during your stay to report such things and we will schedule an exterminator to come to the property to remedy the problem. Thank you again for your feedback. I hope you will revisit Emerald Isle for your family's next vacation.

“Great views”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2015

Loved the porch and decking. Two level porch allowed ocean view without the railing at eye level. Kitchen very well equipped, but no cabinet left empty for food. Purchases must be placed on the counter. Bedrooms comfortable; living area furniture sturdy and comfortable also. We hope to return to this house again.

“Nice in some ways, but...really?”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2013

Martin house was much nicer (partly) than pictures indicate; rooms were larger than they looked online. Landscaping was nice; it appeared that decking/stairs were fairly new. Our first "surprise" - one of the front bedrooms had a heavy, noticeable "wet basement" smell. We deemed it a potential health hazard and eliminated it from ones we could use; we closed it off to keep the kids out. I had to spend the week in a twin bed, not what I had planned. I work in the environmental health field and know that these smells come from present or past water damage and that spores from mold/mildew are present in either carpet/paneling/or ceiling. I called this concern in; the person sent out found no visible mold/mildew but did agree the room had a very noticeable "wet basement" smell and that they would report it for future attention. I said I would be requesting a partial refund for not having the entire house at our disposal. I spoke to the rental company about this; they contacted the owners after our stay and said the owners refused to give any credit for this issue as they had a family member who had issues with mold/mildew who had no problems with this room and that no one else had complained about this. Wow...; really? This room stank because it needs remediation. Laundry room is under the house and is only accessed from outside. It rained for 3 days during our stay; this was truly a pain to deal with. Bathtubs are really dated/aged. Bathmats looked and smelled as if they had not been washed in years, and caulking needs to be done in the tubs. The only TV with a large number of channels is in the main room; other TVs only have basic cable options. Main room couch/chairs look like they date to the 70's; cushions offer virtually no support/are uncomfortable to sit on for any extended time. Some lamps are old/worn/need attention; electrical connections for bulbs are loose, lights sometimes go on and off if someone walks by and the lamp gets some vibration.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review of your stay at Martin House. I'm sorry to hear that you decided not to make use of the whole house. Our area is prone to moisture and homes having a lower level can be effected by a smell from this moisture. We understand your concern and hoped that sending our housekeeping professional to the property to check it out would ease your mind so you could make use of the full house. Thank you again for your feedback. I hope you and your family will vacation with us again. Please call us if we can assist you in planning your next trip to the Crystal Coast - 1-888-832-0140.

“A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beach”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2013

Our first time renting with Emerald Isle Realty and our first time in the Martin House. We were very pleased with the staff and service. The home was very clean and comfortable with nice furnishings that created a relaxing atmosphere. The deck furniture was very comfortable and allowed us to spend many hours on the deck when we were not on the beach. I would recommend trimming the bushes on the dune, just off the deck, to improve the ocean view and to trim away branches that extend over the railings on the boardwalk to the beach. The Martin House is a great treasure tucked away in a very nice neighborhood with excellent access to all the charms of Emerald Isle

“fun family vacation”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2013

good time was had by all. the living area of the house was great, very spacious. The kitchen was well equipped, we enjoyed the outdoor shower, and the kiddie wading pool was perfect for the young children. We found the bedrooms quite small, and wish the living area space had more light. Could have used more lamps and more lighting in the living area. Also would encourage the owners to make the paneling in the living area a lighter color and/or have lighter colored furniture. Would jhave been nice if there had been sand chairs available at the house. Generally, the house was comfortable and liked that it was well maintained, also loved the grass lawn and other landscaping. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

“Good buy for the price”

Martin house is a nice open floor plan house with a great porch and lots of nice big windows across the front. The bedroom setup is nice for two families with the front two bedrooms having queens and the back bedrooms having twins for kids. Pros: -open living room/kitchen -TVs in every bedroom (w/nick jr) -nice beach and walk -fantastic shaded porch with rockin chairs and picnic table Cons: -shower heads need replacing - no ceiling fans in bedrooms (gets hot) - beach shrubbery so tall it blocks the view of the beach. You can't really see the ocean from the house. - next to public access so there's lots of fishermen - kitchen needs to be updated - lots of twin beds all in all we had a wonderful week at Martin!

Response from the manager Thank you for sharing your vacation experience with us. I agree, the floor plan of this home is perfect for families vacationing with kids. I'm happy it worked well for your family. Please call us when you begin making plans for your next Emerald Isle vacation - 1-888-832-0140.

“Perfect October stay”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2011

Found the Martin House to be a good getaway for a long weekend. Clean rooms and spacious common area to read, play some cards and just hang out. Great views of the sunrise and to watch the waves roll in. Few things to take care of would be that I found most of the dishware needed to be rewashed and the shower head in the east side bath needs repairing, (it works but is broken). I would recommend this unit to others. It's older, but quaint.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review of your stay at Martin House. I agree that this home provides great views and plenty of space. I have reported the broken shower head to our maintenance department. Thank you for your feedback. Please call us when you begin to make plans to revisit Emerald Isle - 1-888-832-0140.

“good time had by all/rental unit needs work, shows age”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2011

The ice maker did not work, your maintenance crew left plastic ice trays outside by the front door, the stove is not level so we had to turn our skillets all the time to cook food evenly, the carpet is old and stained badly, the ac in the bedrooms was freezing compared to the ac in the main living room, the shower and tap water had an un pleasent odor, there was alot of trash left under the decking which I cleaned up, some buckets, plastic sheeting left out, some household insects in the kitchen, other than that everything was good. thank you. “Wish we could have stayed longer!”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2011

22 years ago we stayed at the Martin House. It is a perfect valued priced rental and we have only been able to get back in it a few times over the years. In honor and memory of a departed loved one, we made sure we got back into it this year. We all had a wonderful stay, enjoyed local food and sites. However, the best attraction is the Crystal Coast. The sun, sand and surf, we absolutely love it...wish we could have stayed longer!
