“Great place to stay on Emerald Isle”
I've stayed at this house two years in a row now with my wife and child along with a few friends. Pros: This house has a lot going for it. The master suite is private and incredibly spacious. The pool is the perfect depth and size for having fun with kids during the day and relaxing with adults at night, or playing Marco Polo. The hot tub is clean and relaxing. The walk to the beach is as good as it can be with a 3rd row house. It's a very short drive to a grocery store. The common areas are spacious, and the dining room table is large enough to fit a sizeable group around it. Cons: Both years I was there, ants were present in the house. This time, there was a line of them visible the entire week along the edge of the ceiling and the wall (thankfully they never ventured towards the living area). The kitchen is definitely outdated, the oven is very old (still functional). I'd book the house again for sure--the cons are well balanced by the pool, hot tub, location and size.
“Nice Beach House”
We stayed in the Carpe Diem house the week of June 28, 2014. We thoroughly enjoyed the house. The house was very clean when we arrived and we loved the fact that linens were provided. I had read the prior reviews and must admit I was a little worried about the house, but I must say our family was very pleased. We had stayed in a beach house at Ocean Isle for several years prior to this and we were creatures of habit as to what we had come to expect. We had 8 adults and 2 small children under the age of 2 and it was the perfect size for our family. We loved the pool and the fact that we could get up in the morning and go out the pool with the little ones and then put them down for their morning nap and go back and relax by the pool with the baby monitors by our side. Once we ate lunch we loaded up and walked to the beach for the afternoon. It was so nice to come back to the house and be able to let the kids swim while we fixed supper (we did not have our own pool at our prior beach house and I will say that was biggest plus of the whole vacation). We loved the fact that there were 2 living areas. We kept all our beverages and coolers and pool toys in the downstairs kitchen and living area and then we never had to carry those things upstairs. That also helped to keep our main living area clean (dry and free of sand). The walk to the beach was really the only downfall. Although it was not a very far walk at all (the house is the third one back from the ocean and the street that you have to cross was not a busy street), the beach access was not what we expected. It is all sand so it was a little difficult to pull our wagon thru the sand up and over the dunes, but it is manageable! I don't normally write reviews but I felt that after the prior review that was not so great it was time to give the house a good review. I would recommend it to a family, especially if you want a pool to go along with the sun and sand. There are some tiles around that pool that could use some fixing and the pictures shows a small area that looks like it is filled with water, but that area has now been filled in with green plants. It was nice to have the pool chairs to relax in. We were also there when Hurricane Arthur hit the beach. We lost power for 12 hours but the town of Emerald Isle was very accommodating in getting the power restored in what we considered a timely manner concerning the circumstances. Our realtor also kept us posted on the weather conditions.
“The house if falling apart! Literally!”
We stayed at the Carpe Diem in July 2013, and it was the cheapest of the beach houses, unfortunately now we know why. Here is a list of things that were wrong with the house during our stay. 1) Pool was green for the first half of our stay. 2) Outside trash cans were full and trash bags laying all around them on the ground when we arrived at house. 3) Ants! Ants! Ants! Everywhere! In the dishwasher, back deck (upper deck and lower deck), and hundreds of them even got into our car and were crawling out of our dashboard and air vents, child car seats covered in ants! 4) Window in dining room literally fell out and broke all over the outdoor shower.(luckily no one was in the shower) They came and fixed it with a piece of scrap wood, caulk and duct tape. 5) Downstairs bathtub stopper did not work, couldn't give kids a bath. 6) Main floor bathtub knob fell off. 7) Outside rear stairs have a step that's cracked it half and barely hanging on. 8) Tiles around pool are cracked and broken all over. 9) Hot tub lights did not work. 10) Lots and lots of water bugs come out at night all over the hot tub deck and upper deck.
“Relaxing and beautiful”
The house was nice and very clean. The kitchen was very well stocked. The pool is what my family enjoyed mostly. It was large enough for everyone to play and enjoy. The only problems we had was a pipe busted while we were their but the maintenance was their within 5 minutes and it was fixed right away. Also their is bit of an ant problem but other than that it was good. I would absolutely come her next vacation.
Although the hot tub broke the first day and we ended up getting little ants outside by pool deck and in kitchen by sink ...the house was great! We didn't care that the hot tub stopped working because it was hot outside and all we cared about was the pool !! The Pool was Big and the kids loved it !! We were so glad we had the pool as well because the first two or three days it rained on our parade but since there was no thunder the kids played in the pool while it rained and they had a blast . The house was very spacious and very comfortable although I would definitely recommend the owner replaces the mattresses in all the bedrooms downstairs...my husband slept on the couch instead of in the room and the kids complained and complained about there beds being hard! Upstairs is beautiful and very comfortable and you can not hear people downstairs and vise versa ! The Location is not bad to have a house with a pool and hot tub for this great price...we took some great pics in the little walkway up to the beach , it's beautiful !! The home is private and love the fenced backyard !!! I would also like to say please be very careful when its windy outside and having the upstairs back sliding door open and then going out the front door !! The first day we got there my 13 year old daughter was going with me to the store as she walked out the front door the suction from inside and it being windy outside slammed that door shut on my daughters fingers and then she proceeded to pass out ...needless to say we sat in the ER until midnight luckily she didn't need stitches ! After all that my daughter still had a great vacation and I was so sad to leave ...as well as everyone ! I would definitely return to this home again ..
“Great property~just needs an owner who cares”
After spending over $2600, we had no inventory, so we had to guess at what to pack. We should have packed a grill!!! Who would have guessed there would be no grill. I donated an inexpensive one I purchased during my stay. No TV remote in master BR, dishwasher worked once & broke, had to hand wash everything after that, ants everywhere, animal hair everywhere in this no pets premise. No furniture on the huge deck. A failed koi pond left to nature is a mosquito magnet, a safety hazard and just downright nasty.Great location, just no TLC.
Response from the manager Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I agree, this is a great property and I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay as much I as know you hoped you would. Carpe Diem was new to Emerald Isle Realty's rental program in 2012 and the owner is taking your comments to make improvements for 2013. I'm happy to let you know that Emerald Isle Realty now maintains the pool and the recommendation to remove the koi pond has been made. This home doesn't provide a grill, but we can always add one to your reservation for a fee. Our vacation planners, housekeeping, and maintenance staff are always happy to assist you so please call us when planning your vacation and while you are staying with us to let us know of concerns you have or issues you are experiencing. Thank you again for your feedback. I hope you will allow Emerald Isle Realty another opportunity to host your family's vacation. Please call us if we can assist in planning your next trip the Crystal Coast - 1-888-832-0140.
“Most disappointing vacation experience”
The home has all of the neccessities but it was not clean. The dishes were dirty we had to wash all before using. There were ants we had to spray for them. The outlets in the master bath did not work, one was hanging from the wall; outlets in basement bath did not work. We dealt ok with all of this but the pool was very dirty.. by 2nd day there we could not swim...murky & discolored so that you could not see bottom... we called 2x... Eir maintenance came & took photos. no one showed up to clean until Fri afternoon & we checked out Sat am.. Eirealty said they would contact us after our complaint & I have not heard from them!
