“Beautiful home, gracious hosts and amazing location”
The home was lovely, as were the hosts. They have thought of everything - from beach chairs and towels to a sunscreen cupboard. Although we were only a family of 4, we still enjoyed the floor-plan which offered a living room on each of the two floors. My daughter ran into friends on the island and they were able to have an evening of card games upstairs while the parents watched "The Decendants" and "Jurassic Park" downstairs. It was truly a perfect home.
Response from the owner Thank you for staying at Honu Hale Kai It was a pleasure having you with us. Mahalo for your kind review. Tom and Linda
“Heavenly Home away From Home”
My 12 year old granddaughter and my 17 year old grandson stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it. It's right in the middle of everything. Old town Kauai was a block behind the house, a beautiful beach was right in front and we were equidistant to both ends of the island. Everything was provided for us. The property was lovingly maintained and nice touches were throughout. We all slept soundly as the ocean lulled us to sleep. In response to a couple of negative comments I had seen posted; the ever present roosters didn't bother us as they sleep at night and they have softer crows than larger roosters. Yes, the garbage truck came one day, but it was quickly gone, much like the one at home. Tom made himself available to us, but there was no need to call him as everything was fine. The gardens are lovely and I took a number of pictures of the beautiful island flowers. We were close to grocery shopping and restaurants and, even better, a fabulous shave ice place was right on the corner. Also, a bike rental shop was a half block away so that we could bike on the ajoining beach path. I've told my friends about this property and would absolutely stay here again.
“Hawaiian Family Vacation of a Lifetime”
We stayed here with our family of five and had the trip of a lifetime. The Summers family owners made reservations, checking in and out, and using the amenities seamless. They were very friendly and helpful. The layout of the house was perfect for our three tween-age girls and Mom and Dad when we were not exploring Kauai. The upstairs and downstairs both have living rooms with Tv's, kitchens, and serviced by their own bathrooms. So there is enough space to move around for when everyone needs their space, but cozy enough to have relaxed conversations over local fare in the kitchen. For the price we found the hominess of it a great value to staying at the Turtle House over a resort. There is free parking alongside the house as well. The house is in Kapaa and is a great jumping-off place to explore Kauaii. Head north for Hanalei and the Napali Coast, head south for Poipu and Waimea Canyon. You are steps from the uncrowded beach and serviced by the Kauai multipurpose path where biking along the coast was voted by our family as favorite activity. Great little local restaurants, an aBC store, and the supermarket are within walking distance. A comment about the noise factor mentioned in a review. We did notice a truck now and again servicing the local businesses, but did not find them intrusive to our experience. It was certainly less noticeable than the real "white noise" to the island of Kauai - the cockadoodledoo of the feral roosters during the day. They are everywhere and found at the 5-star resorts too. In all an unforgettable experience for our family at The Turtle House. 5-Stars all around.
“A wonderful time”
My wife, young son, mother and I had a wonderful time in Kapaa! We found the turtle house all we wre hoping for and more! We appreciated all the amenities and even extras provided by the Summers. My son loved running around the upstairs porch that encircles the house and playing outside.
“Super spot except for the noise”
We had a great stay at Honu Hale Kai - the location, facilities, hosts, were all wonderful for our extended family visit with 2 seniors, 2 adults and one child. Very close to a sweet beach, gorgeous bike path, and the nicest hosts you could imagine. The only drawback (and unfortunately it was a big one for us) was the noise at night - traffic and very loud garbage trucks most nights meant that no one slept well, but if you're used to loud city sounds it might not phase you.
Response from the owner Thank you for your critique on the Honu Hale Kai. We are aware of the noise factor due to the unit being located one block behind the small historic town of Kapaa with many commercial stores and next door to the Pono Kai Beachfront Resort. The noise factor is due to trash pick-up and some delivery drop offs servicing these locations. We do advise guests who are sensitive to noise of this activity but feel that the overall ambiance of the unit and location far exceed the discomfort of the noise factor.
“Great Experience at Hanu Hale Kai - Kapaa”
Our family spent 4 days/nights here. Overall a great experience. Kapaa is a pleasant little town with good shopping, good food, good coffee - all within an easy walk. Centrally located for day trips to the south, east, and north shores. There is a paved walkway that parallels the shore making it easy to walk / run / bike ride for miles along the ocean form one end of town to the other (and then some). The Hanu Hale Kai rental property is set up beautifully for a family with kids. Master bedroom suite, fully equipped kitchen, family room upstairs; two more bedrooms downstairs with full bath and kitchenette; balcony all the way around 2nd floor of house - great for sitting with coffee in the morning, other refreshing beverages in the afternoon / evening. Great ocean views from the 2nd floor / balcony. The property owners / managers, the Summers, are very hospitable. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was a great one. I'd highly recommend this property or any managed by the Summers.
