Satinwood Villa is an eco-friendly 3 bed/3 bath hillside St. John vacation house rental which overlooks the east end of St. John and the Caribbean Sea beyond! This beautiful private home with pool is a one-of-a-kind vacation home offering an extraordinary level of comfort and modern amenities while remaining completely in tune with nature and the beauty of St. John. Environmentally conscientious visitors will relish in the ultra private location which provides spectacular sunrises and breathtaking panoramas of Coral Harbor, Hurricane Hole, the British Virgin Islands and the Caribbean Sea beyond!

Located high above Coral Bay in the popular community of Upper Carolina, Satinwood is truly a 'one-of-a-kind' vacation home for visitors wanting to get away from the crowds while being eco-friendly!  This unique home is completely energy self-sufficient and is truly an environmentally friendly house because of its 'off the power grid' construction and use of advanced Clivas Multrum waterless composting toilets .  The waterless composting toilets use no chemicals and have no polluting discharge and they can save an average of 18,500 gallons of water per year. The home does not have any connection to the electric utility on St. John, and instead utilizes a system consisting of solar panels, storage batteries, DC to AC Inverters and a back-up diesel generator to insure reliable and earth-friendly energy at all times day or night!     The owner's have recently completed an extensive electric system upgrade with all new, state-of-the-art equipment to ensure reliable electricity service 24/7.  With all of its conservation oriented design, Satinwood provides discriminating guests with all of the conveniences and comforts expected in a deluxe private vacation accommodation on St. John while ensuring an environmentally friendly footprint on our beautiful island.

Guests arriving at Satinwood will be greeted by the inviting, sculpted swimming pool and fabulous surrounding deck complete with lounge chairs for sunning and a six person table with umbrella for alfresco dining - all arranged against the background of the awe-inspiring views to the East. The main house features a great room complete with comfortable furniture and an 'entertainment wall' consisting of a flat screen HD TV with cable TV connection, DVD player, CD player, stereo audio system, books, puzzles and games. The fully equipped kitchen is complete with energy efficient appliances and all the necessary items to prepare snacks to full meals. Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining area with table and chairs with seating for eight. The large glass wall with sliding glass door leads from the main living areas to a private balcony where guests will find a gas BBQ grill and a comfortable seating area to enjoy the fabulous views of Coral Bay and several of the British Virgin Islands.

This St. John vacation house rental offers comfortable sleeping accommodations for up to ten guests. There are two master bedrooms located adjacent to the Great Room consisting of one king size bed and full en suite bathrooms with tiled, walk-in showers.  Each master bedroom also has a loft sleeping area complete with two twin beds. There is a ceiling fan in each bedroom and floor/table fans located in the lofts. There is a complete studio apartment with a kitchenette, a king sized bedroom and en suite bath located on the lower level of the home. There is also a sitting area featuring comfortable chairs, a TV with DVD player, small audio system and ceiling fan. Satinwood is named for the large tree (which may be the last one on the island) growing out of the lower deck. Just as this rare species of tree has become unique to St. John so will be your vacation experience at Satinwood!

“Best view on the island, house is nice but almost of secondary importance”

My wife and I have been coming to St. John for years. For the first time ever, we rented the same villa for a second time, and the villa was Satinwood. We also brought another couple to share in the dream. We really like Satinwood for the balance of what it offers. It's not the fanciest villa on the island, and it does have some quirks that some people might not enjoy, such as self-composting toilets with no flush. No odor whatsoever. I say, if you want everything on a trip to be exactly like it is at home, then stay home. :) There, I got that out of the way. But the house is nice, and MORE than sufficient for the needs of anyone who enjoys the outdoor Caribbean life. Here's what we like about it: - Complete privacy at the unique plunge pool - Most stunning view on the island. Do not undervalue this point! - Perfect location if you enjoy both Cruz Bay and Coral Bay, not too far down the East End or South East. - The donkeys live in the Carolina neighborhood. We like donkeys. - Hilltop location means cool breezes - Solar powered/immune from island outages - 5 minutes to Maho, Love City Mini Mart, or Skinny Legs - Price is reasonable compared to some really pricey places with a far lesser view and pool. (Owners: if this ever changes, it will affect our choices - price matters!) Here's what we really didn't like about it: OK that section was short. Here's what some people might take issue with, but come on people, you should be outside anyway so who really cares!: - Kitchen a little dated - Appliances just good enough - Wi-Fi can be spotty If I cared about the quality of the countertops or cabinet doors, I would rate this a 4 star. But since what I care about is a great pool, stunning view, amazing location, fair price, and just the best darn setting in the Lesser Antilles, I rate it a 5 star and highly recommend Satinwood.

“cozy eco home with amazing view of Coral Bay”

Had a great family vacation and this home definitely contributed! Was wonderful that we were met at the ferry and guided to the home, we would have for sure been lost if we had to find the place on our own- but it's easy to find once your shown once. It's an eco home with compost toilets that worked well and runs on solar power (great that we didn't lose power with the majority of the island!). The view of Coral Bay and is remarkable, and the pool overlooking the view is also wonderful. It's a cozy home, but definitely could afford some attention and general repairs. Nothing that was too bothersome on its own, but just things that added up and made us wonder where I rent money was going if not back into the home! Broken blinds, foundation crack (!), broken screen door, broken handles to close windows, broken filter for the pool, dull knifes in the kitchen-- mostly little things that in the end just made it feel more like home.

This house has a great view of Coral Bay, is spacious and breezy, and well-stocked with all necessities. Nice pool and outdoor area and can easily accommodate 3 couples and 4 kids. You should have 4WD for the location. Composting toilets can be improved (better seat and cover system). Some screens need to be repaired to minimize the number of bugs that attack you at nights.

We were welcomed at the ferry by staff who also helped us manage a snag in the jeep rental. They escorted us to the Satinwood villa, which was a good fit for two couples with bedrooms split on each side of the living area. The view down into the bay was better than watching T.V. and the breezes up the hillside were cool and refreshing. The internet was disrupted several afternoons but the staff was quick to check it out. The villa was close to hiking trails and good beaches. We rate this as one of our best vacations. Thanks for taking good care of us before and during the week. Gratefully, Roger De Young
