“Piperie - Some Good, Some BAD”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2009

First, the good. The entire staff at Grenadine Island Villas was very helpful & pleasant. They helped us with many problems, big or small. The view from the Piperie is probably unparallelled. Simply stunning. This (new) villa with very unorthodox, but interesting architecture is a paradox. Beautiful wooden doors & window covers with brass fixtures & beautiful decks. On the negative side, was that the plumbing fixtures were second-hand battered items that were unsightly to begin with, but also not in good working order. Both the kitchen faucet handle & the shower tap fell off, with the latter hitting me on the foot, leaving a large, painful bruise that remained long after we departed. The kitchen faucet panicked my wife who couldn't turn it off, & fully aware that water on Bequia is very precious. Our biggest complaint however is with the air conditioner that took 4 days to repair, mostly because we were accussed by Zoe of not being able to operate it. A repair person from St. Vincent proved differently. In the meantime, we had 4 sweltering nights. While we're on the subject of Zoe, her trips to St. Vincent & her managing of Jack's Bar made her unavailable to us for long periods of time. It's not that she wasn't helpful, it's that she wasn't there. I wonder if Cass might not be a better manager. She didn't go a lot inside the villa because we asked her not to, but she did the little things that made our villa nice to come home to. She also kept the grounds in impeccable shape. Although many people don't like the feral dogs, we found the ones that adopted us were very loyal & extremely loving. The occasional barking, usually at 4:00AM however was quite disturbing. lol Now, for my comments on Bequia itself. We visited Bequia in 2001, & found it changed a lot. The three main restaurants are Swedish-owned & that in itself is no problem, but if we wanted Swedish meatballs & bland food, we'd have gone to Sweden. We found Tantie Pearl's & Coco's Place too late.
