“Jungle Mountain Escape”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2014

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend as the end of our one-week tour of Puerto Rico. What a perfect place to end the trip! The cabin is small & cozy, perfect for a solo traveler or a couple. The grounds are intricately kept, complete with plenty of tropical flowers and fruit trees. The cabin back ups to a small river with a lovely waterfall. One couldn't ask for a better view. Marlene, the owner, was full of useful information and suggestions and kept the cabin in great condition and cleanliness. She even joined us for dinner one evening at one of her favorite local eateries. :) Her menagerie of friendly pets are a great bonus.

“Paradise!”

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Jungle Lodge. Ms. Jones is a great host and the cottage is well appointed. The only bad part was having to leave!

“Just perfect!”

Reviewed 20 Mar 2014

Went here with my boyfriend for our annyversary and I just have to say it was perfect! Pictures don't do justice to it, is more beautiful and amazing in person! The place is so peaceful we didn't know how to leave! Marlene is such a nice and sweet person, she will make your stay even more charming! We definetely want to go back again and recommend La Casita!

“Perfect Jungle Bungalow”

Reviewed 18 Mar 2014

We loved this place! And Marlene is a fabulous hostess! I would highly recommend Hacienda de'l Lago to anyone looking to stay in the jungle...it's just perfect. The colors, sounds, the woodsy smell... The property is quiet and relaxing, and my friend and I were able to get dinner across the street two nights in a row (by far the cleanest meals we ate in PR). I also got an amazing massage at the hotel across the street (ask for Fernando). When we weren't exploring the area, we spent most of our time on the porch drinking cocktails and listening to the birds - the most pleasurable use of our time by far. Our last night, we shared stories with Marlene over a bottle of wine - another favorite moment. And her lawn smells like cilantro!!! It's crazy. I loved this place and would totally book it again. Thanks Marlene! xo

“Magical, Tranquil Paradise!”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2014

From the moment we walked down the steps we knew we were in Paradise. The Casita sits surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. The inside was just big enough, comfortable bed, small table 2 chairs and a tiny kitchen and bathroom. We sat on the porch whenever we were there to fully enjoy the paradise! Marlene greeted us as soon as we arrived, her home is on the property, with her 2 family members, Yoyo and Bianca. The 2 sweetest dogs ever. Meeting Marlene was like greeting a dear friend you haven't seen for awhile. Our 1st morning we were greeted with cut Papaya from Marlene's Tree, delicious. We enjoyed using the BBQ and having a fridge to keep breakfast foods in. We had dinner one night across the street and it was delicious. The only negative is if you go during the week the only place to eat is across the street, so plan wisely and bring food to BBQ and cook on the burner on the Grill. You are isolated but that is part of the beauty!

Response from the owner Dear Elenita and Howard, it was entirely my pleasure to host you in Paradise! You were welcome guests and it was wonderful to meet you, yes, like old friends. I'm sorry you didn't get to eat at the local bohios. Around New Years many people were taking some holiday time themselves, but they're back on schedule again. I missed them too! I eat at Asado de Papa almost every day - the one just over the dam - for the great food and bbq Luis and this family make. I'm sorry you didn't get to have that. It is so nice to know that you and Howard really enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of this precious little spot. Thank You!

“A feast for the senses!”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2013

We traveled to Puerto Rico to celebrate my 65th birthday & La Casita was a perfect spot in which to do that. At La Casita we learned to let the day unfurl before us & truly started to experience our vacation. The little cabin is inviting from the moment you lay eyes on it. The settee out front invited you to sit & experience the sounds & colors of the mountainous region of Puerto Rico. Although small there was attention to little details inside. Lovely cut flowers, artwork, natural soaps, a sitting area & comfortable bedding. The road we took from the Rincon area was beautiful but treacherous at times. Marlene gave us excellent directions from Utuado and was sitting by the road when we arrived ready to welcome us to the property she dearly loves. While there we visited the Cueva Ventana and some of the local coffee haciendas but the best part of our stay was the beauty that surrounded us. If you are looking to enjoy some local foods, don't mind the challenging roads and want to experience another side of Puerto Rico this is the place for you.

Response from the owner It was a pleasure to have you stay at the cottage and experience and enjoy the slow pace of life as it unfolds in this beautiful area of Puerto Rico. Maybe that makes our foods taste so good too. Thank you for noticing the smaller details inside! Although for a short stay, you have smelled, tasted and heard all the things that make this area La Buena. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You were wonderful guests.

“Adorable little cottage in the mountain jungles of Puerto Rico”

Reviewed 23 Dec 2013

This cozy little cottage in the jungle is not only secluded and romantic but clean and comfortable. After out first night here we spent the day just hanging around the property enjoying the scenery. You can hear the sounds of the birds, frogs and chickens. There is a waterfall and river adjacent so the sounds of the water are calming. Watching the clouds come over the mountains was spectacular. The owner Marlene is generous and kind. Not only does she bring fruits and goodies, she can tell you what is there to do nearby, in case you want to explore. She made sure we were comfortable and was so friendly that we felt we were staying with family. We hope to come back to this place again. If you are looking for a romantic few days off the grid with a lovely hostess and a clean safe place to stay, look no further. I highly recommend La Casita.

Response from the owner I must say you were a delight to have - and I think that where ever you roam, you will always be welcome and cherished guests - and friends. some people are just like that! Thank you so much. ps I hope you come back for the anniversary!

“An amazing private cottage in the mountains with everything you”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2013

If you are looking for a unique, secluded experience a couple of hours from San Juan than you should look no further. Marlene's Casita offers up all the basic amenities needed to relax in the tropical beauty outside Utuado. With a stocked kitchen, comfortable queen bed, and grill for cooking there's not much else you need to spend a couple of nights along a creek in the woods. La Casita is a short drive to coffee plantations, the Ruta Panoramica, and several other sights. Marlene is a perfect host and tour guide.

Response from the owner I must say, I will hope to live up to this sparkling review! Thank you from my heart, Caroline.

“Loved La Casita - So Peaceful”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2013

Cute little cabin was very comfortable. Set in the mountains, next to a river where we listened to waterfalls, rapids, and chirping coquis. Bird of Paradise and other flowering plants and lush vegetation everywhere. It was so relaxing sitting on the porch by candle light in the evenings, and enjoying delicious Puerto Rican coffee and tropical fruits in the mornings. This was a great location for day trips in central PR, including the Rio Camuy Cave system (www.aventuraspr.com), Tanama River cave tubing, Arencibo Radio Telescope, Caguana Indian Ceremonial Park, and more. Marlene was such a lovely and interesting host. We stayed 4 nights and so thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

“A Jungle Paradise”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2013

If you're looking for some variety in your beachy Puerto Rico vacation, the central mountains region is a great place to visit, and in particular Marlene's lovely cottage in Utuado, where my boyfriend and I stayed a couple nights. The house is very nicely put together and the surrounding plantlife is astonishing. Marlene is an extremely attentive host, accessible via email or phone and only too happy to give you advice during your stay as well. Know that it's a long winding (but beautiful) mountain road to get here, nearby restaurant options might be limited (note we were here during low season, and on weekdays only), the power can go off every once in a while, and there will be bugs. But if you don't mind that, and you've always dreamed about living in a jungle paradise, this is your chance.
