“Yearly Oyster Roast”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2015

Our family, along with several other couples set a weekend aside every February for our yearly oyster roast. Usually, we pay and attend one, but this year we decided to rent a house on the coast and have our own. High Tide Cottage suited our needs perfectly. We had 2 other couples with us and several small kids in the mix as well. The backyard was perfectly set up for outdoor entertaining. There is a big pot and cooker for steaming seafood, a big wooden table for shucking oysters as well as a table and chairs. We really enjoyed the patio and fire pit too! The kids enjoyed climbing the trees and bike riding. The interior of the house is beautifully decorated, but comfortable as well. The kitchen was large and well stocked. We had a large group but never seemed to be too crowded in the house. We have rented other properties for this weekend before, but they were located more in a marshy setting. It was really nice to be in such a pretty residential part of Darien. The houses are beautiful and the river, shops and restaurants are within walking distance. Overall, it was a really nice stay and we enjoyed every minute of it!

Response from the owner Thank you for visiting Darien and staying at High Tide Cottage. High Tide Cottage is without a doubt the best location for a vacation rental in Darien. When you can walk to the Darien River waterfront and dine at Skippers Fish Camp, stroll to waterfront wine and cheese, or take a bike ride in the historic district without crowds, you are in a perfect location. I'm glad you enjoyed the court yard and the low country boil as well as your oyster roast. Please keep us in mind for next year or visit privateislandsofgeorgia.com and consider our other property Eagle Island. A private island vacation home for only you and your invited guests. Thanks again and hope to see you next year.

“This was a great escape!”

Reviewed 12 Mar 2014

High Tide turned out to be everything we were looking for: a lovely, just-big-enough cottage in a quiet village with personality. Darien is close to two major cities, as well as smaller towns, with several terrific tourist sites close by -- but somehow manages to feel as if it's disconnected from the world: a great escape. As to the cottage itself? Lovely, well-stocked, welcoming and quiet. And Capt. Andy's gift of oysters put the whole vacation over the top. We'll be back!

Response from the owner Thank you for staying at High Tide Cottage. Darien is a great town located on the Darien River. The slow pace and no traffic is enjoyed by all instead of other congested vacation locations! Since the cottage is located next to Broad Street and the Darien River you can walk to Skippers Fish Camp, walk to the river, walk to Waterfront Wine and Cheese, bike to Fort King George and as you mentioned disconnect from the world. On your next visit please consider our Eagle Island property where you can escape to your own private island. Thanks for staying with us at Private Islands of Georgia: High Tide Cottage/Eagle Island, and we hope to see you again soon.

“Best Family Getwaway Ever!”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2013

The place is so easy to find and the whole town is so friendly and fun to explore. We were greeted by Captain andy with a cooler and some great High Tide's BBQ. The house has everything you could need and more, including bikes and a kayak. We have a total of 5 kids with us and there was still room for more family. We went on daily outings to the different islands, but loved coming home to the cottage. We had family breakfasts and dinners every night. Thank you Captain andy for such a wonderful place to stay and all your hospitality! Next vacation we take, we are going to check out one of your other rentals.

“Very, very pleasant”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2013

High Tide Cottage exceeded my expectations. The rooms are surprisingly large, well appointed, and remarkably tasteful. Noise was no problem -- at all -- and most of what I wanted to do was a short walk away, including great places to eat. I've always loved Darien, and will definitely return to High Tide Cottage on my next stay.

“Mother - Daughter Excursion”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2013

It was her idea (Tracy). She lives in Minnesota and wanted us to have some one on one time in SC. She researched aspects of the Gulah people and said that this would be a great time to learn more about them. What a great idea it turned out to be. The weather was perfect, Sapelo Island is beautiful and the services provided by High Tide were extraordinary. We requested a guided tour for Sapelo and the management at High Tide were very helpful in giving us the name of someone. The Cottage is very large and provided more than enough luxury than we needed. The town is quaint. Keep in mind, all this was done via web site and site unseen...Wow! we will be back.

“Amazing House in Darien, Ga”

Reviewed 2 May 2012

This house has all you need for a base location for a few couples going to the coast. Whether it be a wedding weekend, fishing getaway, or just a family vacation, this house is right off the coastal highway, next to a great little restaurant to enjoy lunch, and down from Skippers Fish Camp. Capt. Andy Hill will go out of his way to make your stay as customized as you need it. The house was amazingly clean and provided all the amenities of your home. We comfortably set up the house for a 4 person family (2 teens), a couple, and two single guys for our wedding. Thanks andy for everything!

“Quiet Southern Stay”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2012

We loved the 1940's style house, beds were comfortable, kitchen had everything you need to prepare meals with - it was a sunny, cheery home. The open floor plan allowed for great family time together. . We were especially pleased that the fenced in yard, complete with an exit door from the house, provided an easy way to care for our dog who came along with us. We tried the purple pickle eartery across the street the day we left and wished we had eaten there sooner, the food was great! This small cafe is convenient without adding noise or distraction from our stay. We drove to the beach at St. Simon's nearly every day, it is definitely do-able. There is not much in Darien, but be sure to go to B&J;'s for the fresh sea-food! The only negative is that we would have enjoyed more comfortable living room furniture.

“Great little cottage”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2012

My family and I stayed here for a weekend when we came for a "Celebration of Life" for my cousin. While it was not a happy time for us, we did enjoy the cottage. It was very neat and clean and only a few blocks from family members. I would very much like to return for a happier reunion and would definitely stay her again.

“An awesome Base for adventure!”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2012

I was selected for an gator tag this year & started looking for accommodations in the area for, not only my crew, but our wives as well. High Tide Cottage worked out better than we could have dreamed! It is right in the middle of beautiful Darien, a very short stroll from the waterfront and surrounded by great shops & eateries, so while we were hunting & fishing, the ladies enjoyed the sights of the area & the outlet malls just a couple of miles away. The cottage is very well furnished & comfortable. The ladies raved about the decor. All the cooking utensils you can imagine made our low country boils, flounder grilling (yes! the fishing was awesome as well) & other meals easy-breezy! Capt. Andy is a great host & we will be back very soon! By the way, I bagged my 1st Georgia gator as well! Awesome adventure out of High Tide Cottage!
