“Home away from home”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2014

We knew this was a nice cabin home from reading the other reviews, but when pulled up to the cabin the view was amazing. Then we walked in and felt instantly at home. The kitchen has everthing you want and need in it. The living room was so cozy with the fireplace. The downstairs and upstairs balconies give you the greatest views and pics of the mountains. The bedroom was so cozy and the bed slept so good. Carl and Esther are the best owners. Thank you and God Bless you and your family.

Response from the owner Leon and Heather, Thank you for the glowing review as Esther and I have worked hard to provide our guests with what they require to relax and enjoy. It gives us a warm feeling when our guests are pleased. We are headed up there later this month with a brand new cast iron cooking set “family and friends gave us Christmas gifts for the cabin”. Many have told us the pictures fail to convey the beauty of the cabin; we need to work on this! Looking forward having you both as return guests. Carl and Esther

enjoyed our stay all the accomedations that we expected and will be going back soon visited the little church upon leaving it was a true blessing

Response from the owner Thank you William for your kind review. We are always glad when our guests leave relaxed. We look forward in your return. Carl and Esther Choestoe Sanctuary

“We had a lovely stay at this comfortable, cozy and well appointe”

Reviewed 24 Aug 2013

We selected the cabin primarily because of it's close location to our son's family and it's reasonable cost. It is exactly as advertised and perfect for our needs. The owners are very attentive and checked with us a couple times to make sure all our needs were being met. Unfortunately, the weather was wet and rainy during most of our stay so we were not able to use the fire pit; but we were still able to cookout and enjoy the front screened porch. It is indeed peaceful with lovely views of the countryside. We look forward to our future stays at Choestoe Sanctuary. Thanks Carl and Esther!

Response from the owner JoAnne, Going back over my reviews here I see I failed to respond. Esther and I were glad having you as guests and the awesome manner you left our cabin and our caretaker was thrilled also. We have been blessed with great guests in the past and looking forward having you back. Carl and Esther

“Wonderful!”

Reviewed 28 Jun 2013

We had such a nice quiet stay at your cabin, like every- one said, its so peaceful and so well stocked, never have we stayed where we had everything that we needed. Nicely decorated, and the view was amazing. We will be back if not this year then next year for sure! Thank you Carl and Esther for the great experience.

Response from the owner Esther and I are so glad you enjoyed yourself. We had stayed in cabins for 10 years and knew what we missed, forgot to bring so we wanted to try and make sure our guests were taken care of. With all the planning one year later a guest forgot to bring her hair blower and we did not have one. One of the daughters of our caretaker works at CVS in Blairsville, I called her, charged one and it was provided for the guests, We also value suggestions for our guests. Looking forward when you can return! Carl and Esther

“Wonderful winter vacation”

Reviewed 11 Feb 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Choestoe Sanctuary. We arrived in the middle of a snow storm and found our GPS giving us conflicting information on how to proceed. We called Carl and he immediately got us moving in the right direction. He also turned on the heat remotely so the cabin would not be cold when we arrived. The cabin was very clean, very comfortable and had all the supplies we needed for our stay. There were spices and other pantry basics available, which is above and beyond other places we have stayed. Firewood was stacked in the fireplace and ready to light when we walked through the door. We were provided with plenty of firewood and really enjoyed having a fire every evening. There is a very welcoming and homey feel to this cabin that we really enjoyed. Access to local hiking and recreation areas was what attracted us to this listing; the trails at Vogel State Park are only minutes away, as is access to the appalachian Trail. We could tell from the pictures that there would be a good view from this property, but the pictures really don't do the view justice. Looking out over the valley to Brasstown Bald, the highest peak in Georgia, is breathtaking. With the valley and the peaks covered in snow, the view was even more spectacular. Our only disappointment on this trip was our inability to get to Brasstown Bald and look out over the valley from the summit; the road to the top was closed due to a washout and did not reopen during our visit. We took the advice of prior visitors and went to alexander's to do some shopping on a rainy afternoon. What a unique and unexpected store-we only wish we had room to take home some of the unique items we saw! We also visited Jim's Smokin' Que and had the best pulled pork and sweet potato fries-they put our local BBQ to shame (and we thought they were good before Jim's!). We can't wait to return to Choestoe Sanctuary! Thank you Carl and Esther!

Response from the owner Esther and I had just left the cabin four days prior to the arrival date of Joe and Judy. While we were there we looked for a possible snow shower but left without getting to see the magic white stuff and also take pictures of our cabin in the snow. On Saturday morning I awoke and saw the Blairsville weather report and that it had been snowing, we were excited even though we were not there our guests from Tampa would get the chance to see it, and maybe take some pictures for us..and the snow kept falling! We were glad the county had taken over the roads in May and it provided a good base for driving on. We recommend our guests stop and purchase food prior to their arrival at the cabin and that it what they had done. I sent a text and received one back that they had left Ingles and were about 5 miles from the cabin. A short time later Judie called and were not sure of the directions based on the information provided from the GPS. I explained what the GPS was telling them and they were very close "less that 2 miles" away. Soon I received a call that they were at the cabin. Both of them were awesome guests and went out of their way to obtain pictures of our cabin in the snow which we will upload soon. We are also looking forward having them return as others have within the past six months "the area grows on you"!

“Comfortable, affordable retreat”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2013

Our stay at Choestoe Sanctuary was a much needed retreat for us. We have spent much time in the area and Choestoe Sanctuary was one of the best. Well stocked and oh, so comfortable. We arrived just before Thanksgiving and the cabin was beautifully decorated for the season. You immediately wanted to go get your turkey and cranberry sauce. The view was wonderful and changed with the weather and the time of day. The area attractions are all easily accessed and so many day trips can be experienced. Thank you Carl and Esther for sharing your "lil bit of heaven" with us. David and Margie Hogan, Lake City, FL

Response from the owner David and Margie, Thank you for your kind review and seeing the word "comfortable" used lets Esther and I know we are "hitting the mark"! It is important to us that our guests feel the same about this cabin as we do. I can still remember the first time we walked through the door and looked out the sliding glass door at the view and fell in love. Many changes and updating have occurred since this time. We look forward having you return. Carl and Esther

“A real mountain re-treat!”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2012

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to stay at this very homey retreat. The views off the decks are spectacular! The additional staples (spices, coffee filters, saran wrap, etc) provided by the thoughtful owners were more than one would expect in a normal cabin rental. The retreat is far above a normal cabin rental. We enjoyed the fireplace every night with its ample firewood supply for the cool nights. Every amenity imaginable was provided by our thoughtful host and hostess. We enjoyed cooking in the well equipped kitchen and outside on the gas grill. We also went to the best BBQ ever that was recommended by Carl & Esther...Jim's Smokin' Q! (You must try the Brunswick stew) The cabin is central to numerous day trips, including the Biltmore (2.5 hours), Blairsville, DeSota Falls, Vogel State Park, Blue Ridge, and Dahlonega. We definitely recommend this cabin for your next retreat near Blairsville, Ga and will return here again and recommend it to our friends.

Response from the owner It is always great when our guests comment on the effects Esther and I were wanting our guests to feel. I guess "homey" is about as good as it gets! We had stayed at cabins over the years and wanted our guests to feel at home. Thank you for the great review and looking forward to your return. Carl and Esther

“Mountain bliss”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2012

Mountain bliss Choestoe Sanctuary is exactly what it says - a sanctuary. The on-line pictures are awesome but they don't fully capture the beauty of this place, inside or out. Staying here does not have the feeling of a rental cabin, but more like staying at the beautiful home of your good friends. Esther and Carl have gone the extra mile to make sure all our needs were met. The view is breathtaking with the pastoral foreground and majestic mountains including Brasstown Bald in the background. I have never spent so much time staring out the window. We were really taken with Frank, the caretaker, and thoroughly enjoyed his stories of growing up in this area. My sister and I didn't do much while we were here - mostly read and watched movies by the roaring fire. This trip was to recharge our batteries and that was certainly accomplished. I am already booking a spring trip and can't wait to get back here to my new found sanctuary. Carolyn Martin, Jackson County, Ga Just as my sister Carolyn says, this place is awesome. We are in our 60's and 70's, still work, and are fortunate to be very actively involved with our children and grandchildren but we needed a break. This charming mountain retreat was exactly what we needed. The décor reflects the warmth and good tastes of the owners, Esther and Carl. They genuinely care about the comfort and needs of their visitors. Although there is plenty to do and see in the North Georgia mountains, we were satisfied with the peace, quiet and tranquil beauty of the scenery directly out the glass doors. We did enjoy shopping at alexanders, having dinner at Enricos in Young Harris and seeing Percy Sledge in concert in Hiawassee. We don't want to leave!!! Ann Guyton, Jackson County, Ga

Response from the owner We enjoyed having Carolyn and her sister as our guests, we keep getting such awesome people as guests and we hope friends. Esther, I and Frank look forward to your return! You should have seen the view out the window with the snow, will have to send you the pictures!

“A great time for all!”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2012

The entire stay was excellent. The cabin was really clean and organized. There were six of us and there was plenty of places to sleep. The owners provided tons of information on places to see, eat and visit during our stay. They were also available to call if we needed directions and called us a few times to make sure everything was going great. The kids loved exploring the property, playing on the play set and making smores at the fire pit. During our walks around the neighborhood, the kids collected unique rocks to the area off the road. There's a farm down the road and we enjoyed sipping coffee on the screened-in porch in the morning listening to them "moo". There's lots to do within a 30 minute drive, including tubing, gold mining, and shopping. Atlanta was just a few hours away, so we made a day out of visiting the world's biggest aquarium. Seeing the whale sharks was the best. There's a bar-b-q place close by that serves the world's best ribs. They're only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday because they sell out of food fast! Overall, we had a sensational time and look forward to returning soon.

“Peaceful mountain getaway”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2012

The Pettey cabin was great. All of the comforts and conveniences of home in such a peaceful location. The back porch was serenity central for our morning coffee and at sunset- enjoyed looking at the farm in the valley. It was also a great place for a walk down below on Fain Branch Road past the cow pastures and that's where we spotted deer on occasion. There was so much to do in the area with just a little driving. I would recommend visiting the Crane Creek Vineyard where you can sample wines, have a picnic, and walk around the vineyard. Brasstown Bald had a spectacular view. Pappy's was a great place to shop around and go for a tube ride. Trail rides at Trackrock Stables are really nice and very close by. I would recommend staying here to anyone looking to get away for some fun, relaxation, and just enjoying the natural beauty of this area. Phyllis Clark
