Description from owner

Description

The gîte “Le Prévot” is on the first floor of a house built in 1603 by the provost-marshal (prévôt) of the king Henry IV.

Over the years, the house became a typical winegrower house with its sandstone entrance porch, its timber framing construction, its flowered balcony and its courtyard between the barn and the house.

Fitted out in this typical house listed cultural heritage, our furnished holiday rental has been fully renovated and redecorated with patience and passion since 2010 and we respected the natural materials of our ancestors.

Here, the furniture is full of history and combines with the modern comfort for your well-being.

Located in the heart of Hunawihr, you will explore this peaceful wine village with flowered houses and listed among the “most beautiful villages of France”.

With an approximate surface area of 65 m², this apartment can accommodate 2/4 persons.

Our furnished holiday rental is officially 4-star listed by the prefecture.

HUNAWIHR :

On the Alsace Wine Route, in a vine setting, Hunawihr is a typical Alsatian village listed among the “most beautiful villages of France”.

This wine village is composed of winegrower street gabbled houses with narrow courtyards, most of them dating from the 16th and 18th century. The many wine cellars spread in the village allows visitors to immerse in the universe of the vine, its landscapes, its professions and its products that build the reputation of our region and delight the oenophiles.

Here, you’ll find wines listed among the best white wines of the world.

Hunawihr owe its name to the Holy washerwoman Huna, who, according to the legend, lived there during the 12th century with her husband, the Lord of the Franks, Hunon. The legend says that during the 12th century, following a poor harvest of the winegrowers of Hunawhir, Saint-Huna had made a miracle and had run wine in the fountain that was name after her. This wine was better than the better wine this village had ever produced.

Overlooking the village, Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur church from the 15th century, surrounded by a fortified cemetery, has preserved an intact environment that brings out this jewel of the Alsatian heritage. This church was also used as a donjon where the inhabitants took refuge in case of attack.

This place is still preserved and the informed persons and the walkers come here for its tranquillity, the rest, the authenticity and the beauty of the landscapes.

On one side, there are the steep peaks of Vosges, on the other side, the Alsace’s plain and its acres of vines.

There are so many places and landscapes that you will be delighted to discover and rediscover throughout the seasons.

In spring, you will taste the beautiful asparagus of our region, our sweet-smelling strawberries, admire a blossoming nature and coloured and adorned with geranium facades.

In summer, enjoy long days of hiking and swimming of the mountain’s lake.

The autumn in Alsace is a season with bright and changing colours, a unique season. During the grape-harvest season, the villages come alive and celebrate the wine. There is a warmth environment with moments of sharing and conviviality.

From the end of November and until the Epiphany (6th January), come share the magical atmosphere of Christmas. The Pays de Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé show their most beautiful sides and are adorned with multicolour decorations, enchanting fir trees and magical floodlights. It’s the magic of Christmas and the emotions of your childhood that you will find in Alsace.

Finally, in winter, during January to the end of March, come enjoy a season reserved to some privileged persons. The Alsace lovers know that during this period, they will be able to take the time to discover an authentic region. Between town, vine and mountains, you will be delighted with all the pleasures that our region offers. After a few ski runs in our nearby resorts or snowshoeing hikes between the fir trees, you will have the pleasure to have something to eat in our friendly “Winstub” (Alsatian wine bar and restaurant) and appreciate unique moments of conviviality. We will be able to advise you!

Hunawihr is 9 km from Kaysersberg, 15 km from Colmar, 65 km from Strasbourg and 55 km from Mulhouse.

From Hunawihr, you can go all over the vines to find Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé that are less than 2 km. These 2 medieval villages, condensation of an idyllic and romantic Alsace, are very famous and visited for their charm, their picturesque character and their remarkable architectural heritage.
