“Beautiful WI lake home!”
We were absolutely thrilled with Runamuk Roost. The pictures don't do it justice. It's so grand and full of splendor it's hard to describe. The lake is so quiet, beautiful, clean and sandy. It was perfect for swimming, fishing and tubing. The sunsets were spectacular - sort of a sullen rose color. Nice west-facing view. At nights we could see the Northern Lights. We all loved it. The lot was incredible. Very private, wooded and level right down to the lake. There's a nice lawn for yard games and a great fire pit for evening campfires. It was great because they had comfortable lawn chairs around the fire ring and a very comfortable patio set for outside picnics. The home was a truly classic, Northwoods lodge. It was so full of charm and amazingly clean. It was like something from another era - very vintage and tastefully decorated. It has very, very comfortable bedrooms, had a huge kitchen, and all the comforts of home. Jim and Joan were great hosts and took very good care of us. Very attentive. It's also in a good location and there's even a nice resort with a restaurant within walking distance. We've already booked to come back again. We just love this place. Jeanne & Tom S
“Annual reunion of lifelong friends”
The cottage was very inviting the moment we walked in. Jim had the fireplace going and the place was immaculate. It has charm that brings you back in time. Jim was thoughtful and enjoyed sharing the history of the cottage. Great stay!
“One of a kind, full of beauty and bliss”
This vintage log cabin was absolutely perfect. A weekend getaway from the city. It was perfect. We were not disappointed. The owners are fantastic, accommodating, and very knowledgeable about the area. We loved it! And will go back many times. Thank you!
“Wonderful cabin weekend with friends”
Wow. This cabin was absolutely gorgeous. I went with a group of close friends for a weekend getaway and my expectations were far exceeded. The place was so cozy, warm, and inviting. All pots and pans and cooking utensils were provided so we were able to enjoy many wonderful home-cooked meals thanks to that accommodation! We were practically snowed in the entire weekend but to be honest, I don't think we would have left the cabin if given the option! It was truly a wonderful and memorable weekend for all of us!
“Perfect Friends Weekend Getaway”
We did a friends weekend with 8 people and this place was a great escape in the dead of winter. Right when you pull up it just screams charm. When you walk in the front door your breath is taken away with how gorgeous this place is, it will make you feel like you're at your own family cabin. It is situated right on the lake with perfect views but since the lake is pretty secluded you won't have them interrupted with traffic. It's on a wooded lot so you cannot see anyone around you which makes you feel like your in the middle of nowhere but you're really close to town which has tons to offer. We only left to go to town once and to go on Runamuk Rides which is owned by the same family and I highly recommend that too! Other than that we had no need to leave this charming cabin. The kitchen is a dream and is where we spent most of the time hanging out because the giant island and built in seating just draw you there and one of our group members who was a professional chef said he felt right at home. If we were not in the kitchen we were sitting in front of the gorgeous fire place which was just so inviting we had it going almost the whole weekend. Us having such a large group the bedrooms were perfect since there is a combo of set ups (Twin Beds, Double, King, Sofa bed) with most of the bedrooms having great views of the lake or woods and the master even had a softness adjustable bed. The large group also appreciated the 3 bathrooms and multi-floor layout which was great with so many people we could all be doing our own things like reading or intimately chatting or we could all be together laughing and hanging out in one room. The cabin had luxury amenities like Cable and wifi but I don't think we needed them once. Prior to our stay the owner Jim gave us a guide book about the cabin, what it had and how it worked as well as the local attractions so we were able to move right in. It was heartbreaking to leave but I know we will be back again.
“A Magical Getaway in the Northwoods”
How grateful we are to Jim and his family, for creating, maintaining and sharing their thoughtfully appointed home. The house was designed and crafted with great care. The quality and beauty is readily perceivable --- through the five senses, and in the feeling of ease (and awe) one feels from the very beginning. Each of us let out a big sigh when we walked through the front door, and we savored every moment in our new home away from home. Runamuck provided a perfect container for us to connect with our adult children and their sweethearts. Jim was great to work with. He was approachable and attentive to details (He had a fire burning in the fireplace when we arrived.) We would love to own a northwoods cabin, but we don't want the expense and work that comes with ownership. These insights made the rental fee very reasonable! We will be back!
“Beautiful Place With Lots to Do”
During our stay we were really impressed with how terrific the lodge is. It's quite big and beautifully done. It sits on a pleasant lake that sometimes feels as if it is only for the Lodge. The lake is perfect for water sports like jet skis, tubing and fishing. The lake is very uncrowded and quiet. The surrounding area has all sorts of hiking and biking trails as well as atvs. The Lodge seems to have several of every kind of toy to play with: Atvs, jet skis and snowmobiles. Loved sitting by the fire pit with a drink at the end of a day spent playing hard watching the sky change as dusk approached and the Bald Eagles fished not far out in front of us on the lake. Great place that everyone enjoyed and can't wait to go back again.
“Runamuk Roost - Ride and Relax!”
My family recently had the opportunity to spend a snowmobiling weekend with friends and their families at Runamuk Roost. All total, there were 13 adults and children, yet the beautiful lodge was extremely spacious and comfortable. Runamuk has everything you would want in a northwoods retreat - plenty of outdoor activities during the day, and a vintage yet modern lodge that boasts 5 bedrooms at night! The kitchen is completely outfitted to cook whatever your culinary talents desire, or try one of the many local recommendations from your hosts - Jim and Joan Taylor. (Just sayin' - nothing beats angler's Haven Resort for some very creative and tasty pizzas!) Snowmobiling the hundreds of miles of trails in the Hayward area can be daunting without a guide. Jim Taylor was both knowledgable and entertaining as he lead our pack of 9 Runamuk snowmobiles through the backwoods of Wisconsin - oufitted from head to toe in warm clothes and saftey gear. If you're looking for a place to snowmobile or just relax, I'd highly recommend a stay at Runamuk Roost!
“Beautiful. Clean. Classic Northwoods Look and Feel”
This is a beautiful place. Been their twice... once in winter and once in summer. Sounds like an oxymoron when I say Spacious but Cozy, but in this case it is true. We had six people there and there never felt cramped. It has a wonderful northwoods feel. The decorating is beautiful. Very clean. Kitchen was well equipped. The lake is smaller but was quite clear and great for swimming. Fishing is OK. The cabin is quite close to the shore. I went on their guided aTV trail ride on our summer visit and snowmobile ride this past winter.
“Perfect Northern Get-away!”
A group of friends and I stayed here for a weekend and had a fantastic time. The place is clean, cozy, and has all the amenities of home, but you still feel like you're at "the cabin". With 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, there was no fighting for space and even though it was cold out, we enjoyed staying indoors. The kitchen is large enough to cook a big meal with friends and family and the table comfortably sat us all. Just bring your food and drinks and you have all the supplies you need! It was nice to have a wood-burning fireplace and wifi - gotta stay connected. It was also great to have the apple TV so we could stream our own videos. If you play the piano, don't forget your music!
