“Most beautiful spot in ashland”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2014

We stayed at artYcottage while visiting friends in ashland recently and were so impressed. Everything in the private cottage is made by the owners and it's all exquisite! The owners were wonderfully welcoming and very knowledgeable about things to do in ashland. We spent every evening on our private deck watching the local deer. The cottage is outside of ashland set among oak trees so it was quiet and very private. We had a wonderful time and have already booked our next stay!

“A Place in the Woods to Dream and Live Your Dream”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2014

My mouth dropped when I stepped into artYcottage and was surrounded by so much beauty, creativity and originality. It was endless. Everywhere I looked there were remarkable details that were executed with perfection. Rich colors and varied textures everywhere. Everything handmade from the quilts to the furniture to the faucets and tiling and even the soap! One day it was 80 degrees and I enjoyed reading on a chaise on the deck. Then the very next day it was snowing and I was lucky to be there to enjoy the beauty of nature's softness covering the branches of trees. I stayed in that day by the fire my wonderful host, Tom, built. Tom and his stunning and bubbly wife, Margaret, made me feel at home with their warmth and sensitivity. From now on I will definitely be staying here on my twice yearly trips to ashland!

“We fell in love with ashland, and we think artYcottage is one of”

Reviewed 17 Nov 2013

We stayed at artYcottage for a week, and even as we left, we were marveling about whimsical and creative details that we were just discovering. It was a week of saying "wow -- look at that" and pointing out the hand hammered window valence, or the decorative banister on the stairs, or the patterns on the handmade quilts, or the color combinations of the felted coasters (hand knit and hand felted), or the arrangement of the tile on a back-splash, or the weaving on the screen that separates the main living area from a reading nook, or the comfort of the wooden seats of the bar stools, or the buttery finish on the rocking chair that has all the right angles so that you are perfectly comfortable when you sit in it, or the perfection of the grain on the cabinets. The outside space is also inviting (better wifi coverage out there, too) with hanging baskets of petunias, a rich grove of trees and a sheltered view of the mountains. No tv, but plenty of sound effects from deer, foxes, owls. We also really enjoyed Margaret and Tom, the owners. They were available to answer questions like the best route to Crater Lake, or what a good local winery was. And they were also delightful people. I am so grateful that they have created this masterpiece and are willing to share it. We can't wait to return.

“ashland oasis”

a beautiful upscale cottage nestled in a serene valley, just a short drive from town. the hosts were friendly and informative, the location ideal, and the surroundings, both inside and out, exquisite.

“Artycottage is incredibly unique and beautiful inside and out.”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2012

Artycottage is nearly unbelievable -- a lovingly and exquisitely handcrafted cottage that you might dream about owning. It's the kind of place that truly deserves the word "awesome" attached to it. When you walk in, "wow" is all you can say. Furniture, fabrics, pillows, quilts, and even shampoo have been designed and made by Tom and Margaret. It's elegant and homey all at once. It's also roomy and modern and eco savvy. There seems to be another perfect detail every time you turn your head. I could have stayed there without ever venturing out. It's the most memorable place I have ever stayed.

“A jewel box”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2012

From looking at the cottage on the website we thought we'd be in for something special. Upon arrival, we were left speechless. The first thing we encountered was the beautiful front door built by Tom. This was just a hint of what was to follow. The cottage is 850 sq. feet of perfection. Every detail is one of a kind. The stairs, the fixtures, the quilts, the lamps, the furniture, even the baseboards, are unique and amazing. Beauty, artistry, and craftsman abound. The crowning jewel were the owners who are talented enough to create this and gracious enough to share it.

“A perfect, beautiful, relaxing retreat!”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2012

The cottage was so beautiful and comfortable, and the Saydah's, while very respectful of space and privacy, were incredibly gracious and welcoming. I thought I might miss being in downtown ashland, within walking distance of the theaters, but it was such a gift to stay in the cottage. I can honestly say that I had the best sleep I'd had in years on the nights I spent there. The silent, starry evenings and the slow, sleepy mornings were just what I needed. If I hadn't already purchased theater tickets, I might have just stayed put for the week. And again, the Saydah's were remarkable hosts.

“Rare haven of art and nature”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2012

We have stayed in the arty Cottage several times and always look forward to walking through the door into that unique space again. First, the setting: a meadow in Oregon's foothills outside of ashland, home to deer, woodpeckers, bobcats and the hosts' two friendly dogs and cat. The cottage itself is absolutely one of a kind, built and decorated by Tom and Margaret in rich jewel tones. The interior is open to the rafters and the loft bedroom overlooks a complete kitchen, cozy wood stove and rug furnished with Tom's super-comfortable rocking chairs, and more delightful touches of color from tiles and wall hangings than I can list here. There is a nook under the stairs to the loft with a desk well-stocked with games and guides to nearby attractions. Tom and Margaret are fine hosts, giving you as much privacy as you want but also ready for friendly conversation when you are. I recommend this rental especially for people who want privacy in a beautiful place. This would be a good base for hiking (and play going in ashland).

“Serenity and art”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2012

I am a recurring visitor to arty Cottage. Because I live in a city I deeply enjoy the serenity of rural life at a convenient distance to the social, gustatory, and artistic pleasures of ashland. After an enjoyable day in town it is a great pleasure to return to the warmth of the arty Cottage, a personal, artistic statement of the proprietors, Tom and Margaret Saydah. The furnishings invite relaxation and delight. And the freedom to interact with Tom and Margaret, or not as one may choose, gives me the freedom I need to best unwind and enjoy. One cannot ask for a better combination of solitude and society in an environment of quietly engaging art.

“Beauty and Comfort”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2012

The artycottage was the perfect choice for our stay in ashland. We were surrounded by beauty and comfort from the moment we entered the cottage until we left ll days later. Tom and Margaret Saydah have created a completely unique environment. Every detail of the cottage has been artfully designed and expertly crafted. The fine wood and metal work, beautiful furniture, hand made textiles and quilts make for a completely luxurious, comfortable and gorgeous retreat. The kitchen is a cook's dream as it is roomy and well equipped. We especially enjoyed the peaceful setting among the oak trees, wildflowers, birds and deer. We took pleasure in having meals on the deck. It was fantastic to head out the door for a hike without having to drive. Tom and Margaret were warm, welcoming and gracious hosts. We extended our stay because we had such a great time. We are planning to return to the artycottage during our next trip to ashland.
