Stay in Taylor Cottage (formerly the Carriage House to the owner's property that fronts E. Taylor Street) and just bring a smile and a suitcase...that's all you need to enjoy luxury and true comfort. Located in Savannah's coveted and prestigious downtown historic district, the Carriage House was originally built in 1870 and lovingly restored in 2001 by the current owners. A second floor was added and the home has been nicknamed the Cottage ever since.
The light and airy kitchen is well stocked with all you need should you wish to cook or bake during your stay. Tall ceilings are in every room and sunshine spills from the 5ft tall windows framing the first and second floors. Wide archways connect the first floor Living Room, Rear Foyer and Kitchen. Convenient passthroughs add to the open feel and lend themselves to continuing conversations as you move from room to room. There's also a first floor queen bedroom, separate full bath with walk in shower and Laundry Closet on the first floor. The second floor boasts the Master Bedroom Suite with Queen Bed,attached bath and large walk-in closet. Each mattress is encased for those with allergens and so comfortable you'll want to take it home with you.
The rear courtyard is gated, shady with a deck. Foliage and flowers spill from window boxes that decorate all first floor windows and birds/squirrel scamper about the surrounding grounds as well. Driveway parking for 2 cars is adjacent to the Carriage House. The driveway half on the western side is designated for the Cottage (the other half is shared with neighbors at 542 E. Taylor) Street parking is also available on Jones St and Taylor St as the Cottage is nestled between these two on the dirt lane that runs between them. GPS directions would be for 541 east jones lane. The owner lives in front of the Carriage House at 540 E. Taylor.
Walk to everything as a car may be nice if out late at night but totally not necessary. Everything to see downtown surrounds you and you can walk to it all. Meander down River Street, Shop Broughton St, Get pics at the fountain at Forsythe Park, Browse the City Market galleries and stores. Restaurants, cafes and pubs abound. The famous Savannah Squares surround you. Step outside and you step into Savannah.
You'll find the home well-maintained with problems promptly addressed. No cobwebs like other vacation rentals with absentee landlords.
Located in the southeast quadrant of the downtown district it is on the east jones lane that runs between East Taylor Street and E. Jones Streets. The lane is a dirt road and GPS address is 541 east jones lane. On E. Taylor and E. Jones, you'll find brick sidewalks, live oaks and taylor moss, gas lights & homes from the 19th century. Come and enjoy living like a local.

Taylor manor was close to everything. Suzanne was great she has everything at your finger tips maps , brochures the works. The house is magnificent but the stairs maybe a bit much for seniors. Our girls trip went very well. Thanks Suzanne
Response from the owner Thanks so much! :) I'm delighted to hear you loved the Manor and found the location great. Savannah's historic homes have staircases that aren't as wide as stairs built during the 20th and 21st century. You'll that in all the homes built in the 19th century (The Manor was built in 1870). While I often have guests even in their 90's who easily handle climbing stairs, I must agree that guests should be able to handle stairs. Because the bedrooms in the Manor are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. But, if you can do stairs :)....the beds in the bedrooms are to die for and everything about the Manor is designed to please as Ms Lila says :).
“Would go back in a heart beat!”
Our large group of family and friends stayed at Suzanne's BEAUTIFUL home in Savannah for the entire week. We occupied the Manor House and the Cottage. PERFECT!!! Not only were both homes clean beyond words but THE BEST BEDS that we've ever slept on in a vacation home, and we travel A TON! Suzanne and her family were there for our every need. Having such a comfortable, convenient, clean home to come back to each day after sight seeing made each day perfect! If you are planning a trip to Savannah do yourself a favor and contact Suzanne.......you WILL NOT be sorry. Thank you Suzanne for making our yearly vacation one "for the books"
Response from the owner I love that you mentioned the beds. I am like the "Princess and the Pea" personally. To the point that I told my husband I cannot stay in any hotel that isn't a minimum of 3.5 stars. And even those don't always have the most comfortable of beds! But all this just shows that I am very "all about the beds" when it comes to my own home.... and when it comes to my vacation rental!
“Great choice for a large group on an expensive weekend”
I traveled with 15 of my very close friends to Savannah for the Rock N Roll Marathon weekend in November. This is a notoriously busy and expensive weekend, so we booked the entire Estate early in order to accommodate us all. While there was a minimum stay requirement for this particular weekend, the per-person price ended up being the same if not less than a single night's hotel rate! (Food for thought if people want to experience a fun time and save some money on a busy weekend). Suzanne was very friendly and helpful the entire process and very responsive to emails and questions. I and some of my friends had the pleasure of meeting her when we checked in and she was so nice and bubbly and had plenty of Savannah tips for us. The main house of the estate was roomy and clean and had the character of an historic property with the right things updated (kitchen, bathrooms, hot tub). The location was great, as it was in the historic district and within walking distance to anything you'd need, but also on a quiet street that didn't feel congested. There is parking in the driveway for 4 cars. We had a few more than that and it wasn't a problem finding on-street parking in front of the house at all. The hot tub was a great feature, clean and the right temperature for sore legs. The cottage was also updated, clean, and very cute. My group was celebrating a birthday that went into the early morning hours, and with the doors closed, anyone asleep in the main house could remain asleep. Since there are a few rooms with multiple beds, I'd recommend making sure that people in your group are agreeable to sharing a room to sleep. With the amount of people we had in our group and the comings and goings at any time, nobody felt cramped or crowded. All in all, a great time and place!
Response from the owner The Rock n Roll Marathon weekend is always such fun! Having guests who are runners in it just adds to my enjoyment! Especially as I live right next door to the Estate :). And the route taken by the runners has them running right the Estate (and therefore my own home). They run down E. Broad and head further on south (past our street which is East Taylor) toward those streets that line Forsythe Park. Which means that I "get to" simply casually wake up (to music and cheering), grab my pooch and walk to the corner to join the cheering crowds! My daughter ran it last year. I ran it on its inaugural year. This year, I didn't catch a glimpse of my guests running past me (during the time I spent on the corner of East Taylor watching the race) but I know firsthand the soreness and joy that comes from only having to walk a few short blocks from the finish line at Forsythe Park "back home" to the Taylor Estate. And, of course, its outdoor welcoming and steaming hot...Hot Tub!
This was the first trip to Savannah for all in our party of four. Suzanne was very easy to work with, and very welcoming upon our arrival. The location of the house is in the middle of the historic district, easy walking to everything in that district. Very close to grocery store and liquor store. We walked everywhere for the 3 days we were there. The house contained what we were looking for for our stay. The courtyard is very quaint and peaceful. The decor of the home is very welcoming. One worry I had was the upstairs master suite being a loft. The location of the second bedroom on the first floor and the large area offered for the master made the upstairs being a loft no problem. Plenty of privacy. Overall the location is nice and quiet, and our time was spent with all windows open at night for sleeping.I would definitely encourage people to stay here, it only enhanced our visit to Savannah. Thank you, Kim Kerr
Response from the owner You know...I didn't realize my description of the Cottages' second floor Master Suite as a "pseudo-loft" could create a misconception about privacy! But I'm delighted both this guest and I firmly put any concern that privacy issues could be a problem...to rest! Because one of the four walls of the 2nd floor Bedroom Suite is a halfwall overlooking the stairwell leading to it which then opens directly onto the Master Suite when you reach the top stair....I created (8 years ago)the adjective "pseudo-loft". Figured it was quite clever actually. But now I'm thinking maybe misleading? The other bedrooms in the Estate are on the first floor of the Cottage and the second and third floors of the Manor. (Again...the Taylor Estate combines both the 4BR Manor & its 2 BR Cottage, which was formerly its Carriage House, together. I have to agree with this guest also that...location, location, location...could not have been better!!
My husband and I met one other couple and we rented the Taylor Cottage. This was a scouting trip to see if we would like to rent the Taylor Manor for a 2015 reunion of 5 couples. The answer is "YES"! The Taylor Cottage was comfortable, clean and well supplied. With 2 BR and 2 baths it was perfect for the four of us. One of the best things about the Taylor Manor is the location. Our morning walks around the historic district were wonderful. We could easily walk to the River Front. There are several coffee shop/restaurants with walking distance - we just ran out of time!! Next time we plan to stay a little longer. It is also important to know that the owner lives in close proximity to the manor and is readily available should you have any questions.
Response from the owner I am so delighted when a Guest stays in "just" the Cottage or "just" the Manor to hear they wish to return to enjoy "the entire Estate!". I only rent out the properties separately during my low seasons but on the rare occassions when I do...it's a total delight to hear tht it has "lured you in" to renting the whole thing!!!
“Great place for a girl's weekend”
We had a girl's weekend this past weekend in Savannah. This house was perfect for all of us! Plenty of room for all of us! Being able to park in the driveway was a plus as well! This house has plenty of seating for large groups, and plenty of kitchen supplies to be able to cook meals in the house! This house has so much charm and character! If we take a large group back down to Savannah we will definitely want to rent Taylor estate again!
“Ideal for large family gathering, everyone can come and go as they please.”
We booked the Estate for a mini family reunion for my mom's 80th birthday and had a wonderful time. Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Estate. Everyone thought the home(s) were beautiful and beautifully maintained, as well as comfortable and functional. We found that everything was as described on the website and/or in the owner's e-mails which was great. We also appreciated the location as everything really was in walking distance. Our youngest traveler (age 7) often took advantage of the nearby park to run off some energy and to fly a kite. The kitchen was well equipped enough for baking a birthday cake as well as a few meals for 14 people. And lots of coffee..... We appreciated all the owner's suggestions and advice on all things Savannah!
Response from the owner I get bachelorette, ladies/couples getaways, GS Troops, Corporate Groups, Sports groups, destination wedding attendees, entire bridal parties, graduation attendees, etcetera! But...a huge portion of my reservations involve family reunions. The versatility of the Taylor Estate is perfect for them because they can have ages spanning infants to 90 year olds. Having the Senior Friendly/Handicap-accessible Cottage only steps away from the 3 story Manor allows grandparents & those seeking a "quieter" space :)... to escape the rambunctiousness of little ones! And yet join in whenever they wish as well! But any group wishing to separate into two subsets (eg: girls here, guys there; or ...groom family here, brides there; etcetera & groups just wishing to have 6 bedrooms and everyone together, finds the Estate to be just as this guest did..Perfect!
“True Southern Comfort!”
The Taylor Estate proved perfect in every way for our family gathering! A total of 17 of us enjoyed the manor and carriage house, including 12 adults and 5 children, ages 4 months to 9 years. The description of the house and cottage are very accurate but it is all much more charming than the photos. Suzanne has somehow managed to combine the ambience of an historic property with the most modern of comforts. The kitchens had all the utensils we would ever need and the courtyards with hottub, twinkle lights and grills were relished by all. The location is perfect – parks and playgrounds across the street one way and all of historic Savannah the other. We highly recommend the Taylor Estate to anyone with a trip to Savannah in their future!
“St. Patrick's Getaway - 2013”
The Taylor Estate was perfect place for our group to stay to attend the 3rd largest St. Patrick's Day Parade, which is fabulous. You can even rent bleacher seats! There was plenty of room in the estate and the adjacent carriage house for privacy and enough space to come together in the common areas. Parking in the rear of the Estate provided easy access to both the Estate and the carriage house. The Estate is located within walking distance to River Street, shopping, restaurants and parks; but it is also easy to maneuver around Savannah in a car. Suzanne, the owner, met us on arrival, provided lots of information about the house and the Savannah area, historic tours, restaurant, shopping, etc. We took a historic carriage tour of Savannah which picked us up at the estate and dropped us off at River Street. It was a wonderful trip. Thank you Suzanne for being so accommodating!
Response from the owner Thank you for the kind words. St Pats is truly an "EVENT" in Savannah. While the entire Estate is like having your own private resort in the midst of all the "action"...I have to admit that the private parking in the roomy 4 car driveway remains one of the BEST perks during St Pats ....because parking anywhere downtown is almost impossible during that holiday :). The parade route is only 1 1/2 blocks away so you amble back to the Estate and the street is lovely, quiet and NOT strewn with the mess left behind for the parade...the partying for which lasts for much longer after the parade ends. The bleacher seats my Guest reserved were done through Kelly Tours I believe. For myself, I just put my dog on a leash and walk the route because it is so much fun just to people watch the people watching!
“Fabulous for a large family”
We needed to find a place for our large family for our daughter's graduation from scad. The Taylor estate met our needs perfectly. We rented both the manor and the adjacent carriage house. Both were spacious, very clean, and comfortable. The carriage house is handicap-friendly and perfect for the older folks in our group. We loved the convenience of the large kitchen in the manor and cooked all of our meals in it. It had everything that we needed for our large gathering. The property had a beautiful courtyard in the back with easy convenient parking that ensured that we didn't have to park on the street and worry about having to move the cars on sweeping day. The estate was within walking distance to everything- shops, parks, grocery stores. We rarely moved the cars. The property owner- Suzanne was very friendly and helpful. She lives next door, which is convenient but once we checked in, she gave us our privacy. She had detailed books in each house with helpful information and everything that you needed to know about the house. The books also had helpful information about the area. I would definitely recommend this to large families/groups. It beat the price of everyone having to get a hotel room.
