A Unique Vacation Home

Welcome to Captain's Cottage! This charming A Frame house is one of the only beach front vacation homes with a private pool! One of the most popular vacation homes on the strip, this cozy, character-filled home is a perfect beach spot for a romantic getaway or a small family vacation. This home is casually comfortable, without a lot of bells and whistles, but packs tons of charm. The classic A Frame cottage was designed by renowned architect Bob Broward and features timeless styling like the exposed tongue and groove ceiling and the classic spiral staircase. It features a unique floor plan that offers open living spaces on three levels. When you walk in the front door, you will immediately notice that you are in a one-of-a-kind house. Views of the ocean can be seen from just about anywhere in the home. On the lower level, you will find a spacious living room, kitchen, and dining area. All of this is very open and welcoming. There is also a bedroom with a king bed on the first level, accompanied by a bathroom with a unique shower. The kitchen has new appliances, plenty of cookware, and anything else you might need to make your favorite meals. The dining area sits by the large oceanfront windows and offers dining with a view! The 2nd floor loft has a twin-over-double bunk that will sleep 3 children comfortably. Here you'll find a library of eclectic titles that can be enjoyed as you laze in the comfortable lounge chairs. There is a half bathroom with a stack washer and dryer on this level. The 3rd floor master loft has a full bathroom with a vintage bath tub, separate shower, king bed, and an ocean front balcony that provides miles of spectacular Atlantic ocean views.

Sparkling Pool and and Oceanfront Deck

While the inside of this house is unlike any other, the outside offers just as much unique enjoyment. Captain's Cottage is one of the only oceanfront vacation homes in the area with its own private pool. Because the house was built in the '60s, it is closer to the beach than newer homes are allowed to be. Therefore, there was plenty of room in the front of the house for a private pool! Relax around the pool deck, work on your tan, or take a dip. The pool area is the place to be! The pool is professionally cleaned on a weekly basis. On the ocean side of the house is a large deck. This offers another great area to enjoy the sun, or have lunch by the ocean. The deck has a lower walkway that extends out over the sand, so you can get very close to the water, and still keep the sand out of your toes!

When you visit Captain's Cottage, you will feel like you are right at home. The house comes fully furnished with plenty of deck and patio furniture, beach chairs, and a gas grill. Additionally, we provide beach and bath towels, clean linens, cable TV and free WiFi! If you have had enough fun in the sun, be sure to visit our nation's oldest city, historic St. Augustine. There you will find countless shops, restaurants, tours, and more. Day trips to Jacksonville, Daytona, or Orlando are very easy from this location. The fact that it is not a modern home is what most people enjoy about it. The views of the ocean are unmatched. Weather permitting, the pool is a great place to chill out. As advertised, it does have a very open floor plan. We aren't certain which railings are being described, but they are all in good condition. Response from the owner We are very sorry this was not an enjoyable stay. However, we would like to take a moment to address a few things. First, we NEVER advertise Captain's Cottage as "renovated". We know very well that it is not as updated as some of our other homes. It is in good shape, but is not a remodeled home. We keep it clean, we just repainted and had the wood floors refinished, as well as put in new living room furniture. But "renovated" it is not. In fact, below is the actual text from my email describing the house to this guest... "Good evening, D**. I finally got an email from you! Captain's Cottage is available for the first two weeks of February. It is a unique little cottage. It was built in the 60's and still maintains plenty of it's original charm (exposed vaulted ceilings, wood floors, endless views of the Atlantic). It's a simple place with few bells and whistles, but most people like it for it's cozy charm." Secondly, the heating issue was very unfortunate. Without knowing exactly what was wrong, the initial thought was that the heating unit was not working. We immediately sent a technician out and he then told us that the unit was fine, but the fuel tank was empty. Being early February, and one of the coldest winters up north, all of the gas companies were very busy. We did everything we could to get them to deliver fuel as soon as possible. This is why I offered to pay for a hotel for the guests. They declined my offer. Their response was that the heater (a second unit) in the master bedroom worked and it would be sufficient. I DID offer to compensate them for the inconvenience. Being a two week rental, I simply forgot to do so at the end of their stay. That was my fault. However, I NEVER received an email asking about the compensation and I definitely did not ignore them, even once. As can be seen by our other reviews, we take pride in our customer service and our beach houses. Sometimes unfortunate events occur, just as they would in your own home. When they do, we act as quickly as possible to respond.
