“All the comforts of home!”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2017

This cabin is wonderfully situated: Back in the woods far enough that you don't see any neighbors, not even their pole lights, but about 15 miles from Wal-Mart and about 18 from a really nice grocery store. There are several places to visit within an hour drive. (Take Rt.12 south to Moose River Rd to 28 north to Old Forge and see a movie if rain ruins your evening) Dan and Carol were very helpful: we arrived to a couple printouts of local events (Wine Festival!!) that we never would have found otherwise and Dan took time to show us a couple of their favorite places on the map. The cabin itself is VERY clean and comfortable. There is really no need to think about packing... well, almost anything other than clothes and food. The kitchen is very well stocked. Towels and linens are provided. You don't need to haul your canoe, there's one there. There's even a selection of movies, board games, and books if the weather or insects force you inside. If I had to point out a "negative" about the property, it would be that the lake is shallow. Good for paddling around, tots of little fish to entertain young anglers, but you're not going to be catching dinner from the dock in front of the cabin.

“a dream come true!”

carol and dan offer up an absolutely dreamy vacation spot at forest pond cottage. it's so private and peaceful, and we all (my partner, our five-year-old, and myself) had the best time. we fished, we swam, we ate good food, and we enjoyed more than one bonfire (thanks to carol and dan dropping off dry wood after it rained!). the house is clean and well-equipped, and it has comfortable beds. we could not have had a nicer time and are so grateful to carol and dan for their hospitality and thoughtfulness.

“Went for the enormous value, stayed for the breathtaking beauty”

Reviewed 7 Dec 2013

My wife and I, along with our Jack Russell terrier, spent our Thanksgiving holiday here and were completely captivated by the beauty of the area. This was our first trip to the adirondacks and we loved everything about this arrangement. Having traveled widely, staying in many cabins and cottages, we were thoroughly impressed by every facet of our experience: the mesmerizing scenery, the cleanliness of the cottage, the awesome scenery, the ease with which we secured the time, the gorgeous scenery, the incomparable value, the pleasantness of dealing with our hosts. Did I mention the scenery? We seriously could not have asked for a better, more restful Thanksgiving, and we are truly thankful to Dan and Carol Empie for the opportunity. When we return, we will definitely book this cottage.

Response from the owner We are so glad you had a great time in spite of the weather. We look forward to meeting you during your next visit to Forest Pond Cottage! Carol & Dan

“Quiet, peaceful setting perfect for refreshing the spirit.”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2013

Our stay at Forest Pond Cottage was even better than described in the listing. The cottage was peaceful, clean, comfortable, and we had everything we needed. We brought our food, clothes, kayaks, bikes and dogs, but there is a canoe on the property. Carol and Dan, who live 2 miles away, are kind, caring people, and we felt as though we were instantly among friends. Dawn over the private pond was a special memory that we'll cherish for a long time. We hiked every day, both on the property and on wilderness trails. We kayaked the pond and nearby larger lakes, and rode trail bikes on nearby snowmobile trails. We will be back and highly recommend this property if you need to get away from your busy life and avoid typical tourist areas.

Response from the owner Thank you for the great review! We look forward to seeing you again. Tonight there is a beautiful full moon and you, both, would love it. Give the pups a hug for me.

“A Quench of Beauty”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2013

The charm of this cottage is surrounded by a never ending quench of beauty for the eye. Your two host are more then accommodating. (We loved them) A most relaxing, peaceful get away is an understatement. We will surely stay again. You also have lots to do in all the near by towns. And we only found the most friendly people.

Response from the owner Marie & Cory, It was a delight to meet you both. We do hope you can visit our little oasis again. Looking forward to seeing you and thank you for the great review. Carol & Dan

“Peaceful Getaway”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2012

We had a wonderful time at the Cottage. Late august, no bugs (there is a large screened porch just in case), full moon, perfect weather for hiking and relaxing. The Cottage is quaint, comfortable and cozy, very clean, quiet and private. We felt right at home. With just a few restaurants close by, we cooked most of our meals at the cottage. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything needed to make any meal, even spices, coffee filters, etc., plus there is a gas grill. In the bathroom, towels and TP were provided, plus a stash of items that might have been forgotten. All we had to bring was our food and gear. The queen sized bed in the loft was very comfortable after a day of hiking. The living room area is quite large with comfortable furniture, TV, stereo - but no internet or cell phone reception, so we did get to "unplug"! (There is cell phone reception if you drive up the road a mile or two) The owners are friendly and live close by if you need help with anything. The cottage is very dog-friendly. Our dogs loved the pond, large yard and forest that surrounds the Cottage, all safe for off-leash enjoyment. We also brought them on all our hikes. The Cottage even has a "mud room" area to park them in when wet, a gate to block them in, and a hose to wash them off! There are many small and large lakes to explore, and both easy and challenging hikes - close to the Cottage and within an hour's drive away.

Response from the owner Thanks Patti & Scott. It was great to meet you & glad you enjoyed your stay.
