“House is nice and close to beach, but a few extras would have made it better.”

Reviewed 13 Apr 2015

The house was nice and very close to beach. The hot tub was new and nice. We did have to have the pool person come and change the chemicals once though because the island has sulfur water. Make sure to bring a lot of bottled water for drinking. The house only really sleeps 4. We are a family of 5 and my son had to sleep on the couch which we thought would be ok, but he had no privacy and anyone that got up early woke him too. It is NOT a pull-out couch. They should put bunk beds in the kids room or at least on set of bunk beds and that would make it great to fit in families of 5. They would really increase their rentals by adding a bunk bed. Also, they need to put chairs or a bistro table in the crow's nest. There is literally no way to enjoy the crow's nest unless you want to stand. They only had one completely broken plastic chair there. We had to get beach chairs from the island club to use on the crow's nest, but it took a couple of days because they were out of chairs. The washer and dryer were nice. The pool is nice. There are very limited items in the kitchen, but made it work. They have a gas grill which is nice. We rented a second golf cart which I would recommend, because the North Captiva Island club's carts were constantly breaking down. By renting an extra cart, we always had at least one that worked. Our golf carts were constantly breaking down. I might even rent a golf cart from one of the other rental groups on the island - we did see other rental companies and their carts looked like they were better maintained. There were many teenagers and college students completely abusing the North Captiva Island Club's carts all week. The kayaks were amazing. I recommend kayaking out in the morning to just north of the sand bar point in the bay. During low tide you can find horseshoe crabs and other sea life. We also kayaked right next to dolphins. Off of the beach near the house we swam with a manatee that just swam up! Amazing! The master bed is a little hard. They did provide a few beach towels and have a lot of bath towels. There is extra bedding in the closet to use for someone sleeping on the couch. There were only a couple of broken beach toys - buckets, shovels etc. and no pool toys were provided, but you can buy both at Mango's on the island. You might want to bring your own inflatable pool toys.

Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to write a great detailed review for future visitors! Great points about the golf carts, it is unfortunate people let their children and teenagers abuse the carts. We will pass along your great recommendations of bunk bed and outdoor furniture to the owners. We are always looking to improve our guests experiences. Happy to hear you and your family enjoyed kayaking and the beautiful nature on and around the island. We hope to see you again soon. Thank you, The North Captiva Island Club Team

“A very relaxing vacation, wonderful beaches and beautiful sunset”

Reviewed 1 May 2014

This home is nicely decorated and comfortable for our party of 4. A short walk to the beautiful beach. The deck on top of the house was great to watch the Osprey on their nest. We enjoyed the pool after a day at the beach. The golf carts could use an upgrade.

Response from the manager Hi Wendy, Thank you for taking the time to review. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your rental home and the island! Hope to see you again soon! Thank you, The North Captiva Island Club Team

“Awesome Honeymoon”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2014

North Captiva is very special to us. We've been visiting at least once a year since we met in 2011, the year we visited twice. We got engaged on the ferry over last year, so it was fitting for us to spend part of our honeymoon on the island after our wedding on a charted yacht in Miami. A great villa on a great island retreat.

Response from the manager Congratulations! We are very honored to be a part of your fairytale story! Thank you for spending part of your honeymoon with us. We look forward to seeing you again next year! Thank you, The North Captiva Island Club Team

“Not bad but needs a lot of improvement”

Reviewed 4 Dec 2013

The shower was horrible no pressure and a bad smell. Kitchen needs some new cookware, we were lucky we took some of ours which came handy. Outside living areas were very dirty, rusted tables and chairs who would want to sit on those. Exterior needs painting.

Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to review. We are deeply sorry you did not have a pleasant experience. We have been working with the owner on maintenance and updates to the home. The water on the island runs on individual septic systems. Each home has its own system and the "smell" which likely smelled like eggs is from an imbalance in the filtration. The water is not harmful in anyway but we certainly understand that smell you are referring to. We have had the water re-examined and the system checked. Again, our apologize for your experience. Most Sincerely, The North Captiva Island Club Team

“Lush tropical vegetation, easy access to the beach, cottage with”

Reviewed 23 May 2013

Osprey Nest is steps away from the beach with a small view of the ocean from the widow's walk. It's very convenient to have a golf cart all week and the extra bonus is having a pool and hot tub at the cottage. Also nice to have all sheets, bath towels, beach towels and paper supplies provided. North Captiva service continues to be helpful and good. Although they add fees for car parking, ferry, paper supplies, insurance-it's a total package. The club amenities are a family favorite: beach chairs and umbrella, kayaks, bicycles and large pool. We have stayed in 3 different cottages. Since we don't eat at the restaurants having more kitchen/dining equipment would be helpful. We suggest: coffee grinder, specialty gadgets, and more of the following-cooking supplies, dishes, plates, cutlery and glasses. The web site states the cottage sleeps 6. However that would only be possible if 2 small children share the "L" shaped sofa. We were 5 adults and we could not fit another. Our weather was perfect and we never turned on the TV opting to stay outdoors nearly all the time. If you love birds-this place had an abundance during our week. The entire island has an incredible variety of flora and fauna. It's the perfect place for those desiring: peace and quiet, walks, nature, marvelous sunsets and every sort of water activity. We'll be back!

“Just what we needed!”

It was everything we expected and more! The house was just as pictures and the pool and hot tub always hit the spot! Great distance From the beach and a great view from the rooftop deck! Overall it was a great and much needed vacation!

“Good bargain”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2013

We were very pleased with this rental. I feel the need to address some of the other reviews. We were happy with the location and cleanliness. The space was comfortable for a family of 4. Towels and bed linens were great. Kitchen was outfitted with the usual relatively low quality stuff that one finds in home rentals, but it was sufficient for a week in an island house. I killed 3 ants the whole week which I don't see as a major issue. The wifi worked fine once I restarted the router. The only issue was that the pool was too hot (of course this worked well for us since it was unseasonably cold the week we were there). Overall, this place is a great bargain if you are a small group. I have rented larger houses here before and hate paying for unused space. Bottom line: I would rent here again.

“Beautiful Island, house needs some updates”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2013

We have stayed at multiple houses on North Captiva. This house is in a great location. The pool is very nice. Inside, there are almost no kitchen utensils (luckily from previous experiences we brought some of our own). The bedside table in the second bedroom was broken. The owners need to pay attention to the amenities inside, otherwise, it's a great house.

“Basic house with fun pool/hot tub”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2013

The actual Osprey Nest is right there overlooking the pool, which is nice. The weather was a bit cool,68 to 72 degrees, thus the warm pool (88) was nice. The house and kitchen is very basic, we had some issues with the dishwasher not working, a leak under the sink with water on the floor, no internet/phone service for 5 days of our 7 day stay. Most of these were not a concern and the Ncic staff was very responsive and came to fix most of the issues. The water is not suitable for drinking/ you need to get water from the store. The house is close to the beach.

“Loved this house”

Can't wait to return. Just fix the DSL and all will be well.
