“A hidden jewel in the Blue Ridge Mtns”
We adore Cloud 9. It's just that simple. From our first visit in 2008, we knew this was the only place we wanted to stay when in the North Carolina mountains. And considering both of us grew up in the Tar Heel State, that's saying something. The two homes that are available (Heavenly Hideaway and this one, Cloud 9 Relaxation) are comfortable, clean, cozy, romantic and private (especially HH, which is for couples primarily). Beautiful hiking trails on right on the property along with fresh eggs (you can pick 'em if you want), the finest honey this side of pretty much anywhere, fresh blueberries (in season), chickens and sustainable forestry. The owner, Janet Peterson, is one of the nicest folks you'd ever want to meet, and just everything about the property is wonderful. You're secluded on a 500-acre working farm on a mountain that's only about eight minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and 15 from asheville. Maybe less on a good day. It's just the best of everything about a vacation get-away in the mountains you could want. When you call Janet, tell her Teresa, Roger & Ky sent you!
Response from the owner Well, it's really a 200 acre farm and all in Conservation Easement acknowledged by the state of NC. You may be delighted to know that we will have another 1 bedroom cabin and a 2 bedroom cabin available in June '17. Hope you will come and try them out, too!
“Feels like being a guest in a good friend's home”
I was scouting out a venue for an upcoming small gathering/reunion of some college classmates. Cloud 9 Cottage is the former home of the Innkeeper Janet's parents and has been lovingly maintained. It has been updated and furnished very comfortably. The view of distant mountains and the hot tub make the large deck very inviting. A wonderful kitchen/den combo with a giant flat screen t.v. make it nice for the cook to be able to visit while preparing meals. A spacious dining room table and large living room can accommodate a small crowd. We did not use the fireplace during our visit but enjoyed the outdoor firepit. The bedrooms are cheerful and comfortably furnished. There is room for 10 people in the house. She has a smaller property a short distance from the cottage, Heavenly Hideaway, (I think that's the name) which is a romantic spot for two people. Janet is a member of the Farmland Trust and her 100+ acres has hiking trails, a pond for swimming or fishing with a small pavilion for a picnic and a horseshoe pit. She a raises organically fed beef cattle which she sells, has a huge blueberry patch and an organic vegetable garden. She is an active beekeeper and a wonderful steward of the land. The Cloud 9 Cottage is pet friendly. Dogs will have a blast in the pond and on the trails throughout the property. One can be in downtown asheville in under 15 minutes from her location in Fairview. She is also set up as a rustic wedding venue down near the pond.
Response from the owner You sure made note of everything you thought your guests would like to know on the tour of the property! Actually 10 could fit in Cloud 9 Relaxation home but 6 are more comfortable sharing the 2.5 baths. Still days left in July to book and come pick blueberries!
“Quiet and Cozy”
The location gives you that remote, quiet feel while being very close to some great restaurants and attractions in asheville. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. Janet is super to work with and made us feel right at home. Will certainly visit the farm again!
Response from the owner Yep, Asheville is just 3 turns and a 5 lane highway, 15 minutes away and you're just 2 miles from a great cafe called "The Local Joint." Try their eggplant fries!
“great getaway, close to downtown!”
Thanks for a wonderful stay. This house is absolutely beautiful and seems so secluded, yet is minutes away from downtown. We enjoyed that feature so much. The surroundings helped us feel like we really got away and helped us focus on family and friends. Thanks again, this was an excellent weekend!
Response from the owner Cloud 9 Relaxation Home is off of one of the few remaining dirt roads in our end of the county...and we like it that way. We say, "We're a world away in 15 minutes!" (to Asheville that is) 25 minutes to Black Mountain, 30 minutes to Hendersonville, 20 minutes to Lake Lure/Chimney Rock.
We had such a great time with our visit to cloud nine! We felt right at home. Janet was so nice and helpful with our stay. What we loved about it was being able to stay there and not have to travel out for entertainment. Between the chickens, cows, pond with a paddle boat, blueberry fields, honey bees, trails and games in the home we never had a dull moment. The hot tub was perfect and the view was amazing. We will be back. Highly recommend !!!
Response from the owner Great! Someone finally gets it! A real vacation: hiking, rocking, staring at mountains, thinking about life and your place in it. What you described, we call a "relaxation adventure." Thanks for noticing!
“Wonderful place - fabulous views, luxurious home, and lot's of a”
We had an absolutely fabulous vacation at Cloud 9! The house (and hideaway cabin) are located on a pristine 200 acre preserve. There's plenty to do on the property with access to trails for hikes, a pond and beach for swimming, and a small scale organic farm. I stayed with my wife and our two young children and we had a wonderful visit. Our host, Janet, was fantastic, friendly, and proactive. She took the time to show the children how the farm works and this was entertaining, fun and educational. There's so much to do and see on the property and you're also close to asheville and it's many wonderful attractions. We enjoyed our stay so much that we plan to return annually!
Response from the owner It was fun having your kids in the garden. They sure liked pulling those overgrown radishes and eating the snap peas right out of the garden. Good helpers! We'll see you this summer...again!
“Above and Beyond.”
House was great, Janet and Jeff were extremely accommodating. Bringing us Sleds for the snow and boots that fit us! We had eggs from the farm, fresh hamburger and chicken..all from the farm! Hot Tub worked..which was crucial..we hiked to the top of the mountain in 7 inches of snow..took about 2 hours, but was worth it! Great time had by all. 20 minutes from downtown or Biltmore Estate. Eric Blevins Bristol, Va
Response from the owner Do you know how many people would give their eye tooth to be snowed in on Cloud 9 like you were! And PS the Hot Tub always works and is kept immaculate.
“Always a Favorite Place”
Our third time at Cloud 9 with 3 other couples and, as always, our stay was wonderful. Part of the fun was sharing all the sites at the farm and in asheville with our friends. And, of course, our daughter's wedding at Peterson pond on the farm...Priceless! Sue and al FL
Response from the owner And what a fun wedding that was…complete with 200 people enjoying a heartfelt ceremony under the mountain laurel arch at Peterson Pond, games of horse shoes, corn hole, hula hoops and bubbles for the kids, pies instead of wedding cake, the groom in the band, pot luck and ending with a camp out/bonfire. A lot of memories created here!
“perfection on cloud nine”
Our stay at Cloud 9 was almost perfect- and the almost was the unperfect weather- Cloud 9 itself is 100% perfection. Janet is a marvelous hostess and staying here is like being in you own comfortable home. She has thought of everything! We enjoyed seeing a working farm and learning about all that they do. Asheville and the surrounding towns are wonderful-beautiful art, fabulous crafts, delicious food (ask Janet for her recommendations) and of course the mountains that one wakes up to every morning. Can't wait to return.
Response from the owner I think you went to everyone of the restaurants on my "must-eat-there" list! And your husband cracked me up by asking if I would help him with his bucket list…hand gathering eggs in the hen house. I have that activity for the kids who come, never thinking we are all kids at heart!
“From a Mom's View”
Our son wanted to go to asheville for his High School graduation trip. I found Cloud 9 after a long search for a place that would accommodate all of us (6)at a very reasonable price. At the end of the week, I heard my son say, "this has been an awesome vacation." The others chimmed in, in agreement. That says it all from a mom's view. We enjoyed our stay there very much. Waking up to the view, drinking coffee on the porch, relaxing in the house, hot tub, feeding the chickens and hikes (plus all else I didn't say) This was the first vacation with my kids that didn't include weddings, graduations, funerals...in years and it was perfect! A mom's dream! I highly recommend Cloud 9 for all!! The accomodations, the scenery, the owner and the staff--all great!! Janet is a people person and was so sweet to acknowledge our son's graduation!!
Response from the owner It's cool that your grown kids want to hang with you still. And your son opted for the Cloud 9/Asheville ball cap instead of a tee shirt in his "Happy Graduation" gift basket along with the eggs, jams and honey from the farm. Looked good in it, too!
