“Last minute trip”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2017

The cabin was decent for a last minute trip to Gatlinburg with a dog. Cons: floors could use a good mopping. Don't plan on wearing white socks without them becoming very dirty on the bottom. The upper deck railing is very loose-don't lean on it as to it might give way. If you're not used to driving on small, steep roads, it could be frightening at first. No insulation between the main floor and downstairs leaving you to hear every little move someone makes if you choose to sleep in the downstairs bedroom. No bathroom on the main floor therefore leaving you to have to go to the upstairs bathroom in the bedroom or the downstairs bathroom in the bedroom, a lot of road noise due to the fact that the cabin is right off the parkway between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge (you can see the cars traveling below from the upper deck) Pros: close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, pet friendly, good for couples as to there is a king bed upstairs (which is very hard/firm) and king bed downstairs, great view to see the sunrise. Overall it's a decent cabin but needs some TLC and updating. Can't say as though I would rent it again.

“Wonderful Christmas Week in Tennessee”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2014

This was not my first choice cabin after reading the reviews, but given the time period and travelling with 2 dogs, my choices were limited. I am very happy to say that this cabin turned out to be a great choice and the entire family ~ kids, teenagers, adults and animals ~ all had a great time. Like one of the prior reviews stated, the cabin is indeed attractive, light and bright with large windows as the photos show, and the rooms are large and spacious. The giant screen television in the living room worked and the view off the back balcony was lovely. There is a full-sized washer and dryer which is great for a family of 5. It took a little bit for us to get the wireless Internet connection to work (a cable was unplugged from the router), but once we discovered and corrected the problem it worked fine. The one thing we would have liked to have had different was for a home that sleeps 6, there were only 4 dining room chairs. We pulled in one of the metal chairs from the balcony so that the 5 of us could eat together and play games in one spot. We did not find any indication of mice in the house at all. My daughter accidentally left butter out on the counter overnight and there were no visitors and given the time of year, if there were mice in the house, there would have been mice prints and nibbles all over it. The furniture seemed fine to us, although the teenager decided just to camp out on the sofa rather than pulling the bed out. The bed upstairs is not soft. I have a sleep number at home, so if you are like me in the 45 to 60 "soft" range, the mattress is not for you. The bed downstairs was a little softer, but I still chose upstairs as the noise from the main level could be heard more in the downstairs bedroom and with 3 kids and dogs, a little solitude and quiet time was what hubby and I were seeking so we staked out the upstairs room for ourselves. There is not a bathroom on the main level and for some that can be inconvenient, but it was something we knew before going and it didn't really bother us. Both soaker tubs were used (often in the case of the downstairs bedroom) and they worked wonderfully. Showers were clean and there were plenty of towels/linens. The kitchen was stocked with all that was needed. We were not expecting top of the line equipment, but what was supplied was clean and in good enough condition to use it. We did report the broken shelf in the refrigerator, but it didn't stop us from being able to use the fridge. Again, being prepared from the reviews, we brought our own cleaning supplies. The only thing I forgot was dishwasher soap, but we made do by hand washing the dishes. The cabin did have a vacuum, but it didn't work very well and I was thankful for bringing ours from home. The balcony had a fantastic view, and while it is at the top of the mountainside, it does overlook the 321/441 traffic corridor. You may see headlights if you are looking down over the edge, but you definitely can hear the traffic. If you are expecting to sit in the hot tub and listen to just crickets and the wind blowing through the trees, you will be disappointed. We just found some quiet background music to play and were only disturbed when there was a high revving vehicle coming through the valley. There are other cabins close by, but we did not hear anything from the occupants all week. We encountered a fairly good rainstorm one night, but the only noise we had was the thunder and raindrops on the metal roof, so maintenance must have fixed the branches that were hitting the house before. We did use the fireplace, but not as much as we had wanted to. The management company does supply firewood, but the problem was that the firewood pile was not tarped nor placed in a dry area (it is out in the open right at the top of the parking spots). Because of the wet weather, the wood was soaked. We ended up having to buy Duraflame logs at the local grocery store to help have a fire and dry out the logs (they steamed more than burned). We did notice that the wet logs had a bad smell to them when we brought them in the house to dry out. Again, the management company may just want to move the wood pile to a less wet storage location and keep the plastic we put over the pile on to help keep the rain off the wood. The pool table was great. My 8 year old loved learning how to play and my 13 year old may just become a pool shark. Having more cue sticks and shorter cues would be helpful for families. What we enjoyed most that it was nice all of us could be on that main level doing different things (playing pool, watching Christmas movies, playing cards, etc.) and yet still be all together. The cabin is located in a great area. Getting to either Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg was easy. The road up can be a little intimidating if you are not used to winding mountain roads, but it gave us a chance to explain to our girls how to navigate these tight, winding roads at night.

Response from the manager Thank you for taking time to review your recent stay at out Passion Flower. I am happy to hear that you had a "Wonderful Christmas Week in Tennessee". Thanks for the feedback on the dining room chairs, I will add 2 chairs as a backup. Maintenance will look at the vacuum to either repair or replace. I apologize for the wet firewood, we normally have a tarp covering that, but it must have gone missing, we will replace that right away. Again, thanks for the feed back and please keep Smoky Mountain Chalet Rentals in mind for your next visit to the mountains.

“Convenient, Quiet and beautiful!”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2012

We stayed in this cabin the week of the fourth of July, when Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge were as busy as can be. We had easy access to the park, a quiet and beautiful refuge and all the comforts of home. The adults and children alike were pleased with the pool table and the hot tub. The beds were large and comfortable and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The only down side for people who love to cook is that the kitchen set-up was a little sparse. A nice cutting board would have been greatly appreciated.

“Great Location, Wonderful House”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2010

The house we rented, Passion Flower, was terrific. The location between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg put us right in the thick of the action - but the secluded mountain-top house gave us quiet refuge from the noise and traffic below. The house itself was clean and in great shape. Our stay was really wonderful.
