“The Best Ever”

Reviewed 31 Mar 2012

My husband and I have stayed in many holiday lets throughout the world; good, bad and positively dreadful. 21 Shoregate is the very best house we have ever rented. This is our second visit and I'm sure there will be more. It's a home away from home in a pretty village not far from St. Andrews. Nothing has been forgotten including a really comprehensive welcome basket. The most important aspect of this house is that it is truly comfortable. The beds and linen are excellent and the furniture in the sitting room is decent too. The house is cosy and warm and at the same time beautifully decorated and clean. It's a little bit of heaven. All the administration was neat and efficient. Thank you Nina

Response from the owner Thank you so much for your lovely review. You review really makes all our efforts worthwhile and we are glad that 21 Shoregate has left you with happy memories of holidays past. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Best regards, Nina

“Beautifully presented and equipped property.”

Certainly the best self-catering property we have ever had.No downsides to it, everything about this is a1. The master bedroom in particular is stunning, but on the whole the attention to detail in every aspect from cutlery to furnishings is fantastic. Also worthy of mention is the very friendly approach of the owner who is a pleasure to deal with. Cold weather at New Year limited our useage of the outdoor facilities, but the view from the garden is fantastic. Crail itself is a lovely location.

Response from the owner Many thanks for your lovely review. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay despite the storms! We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

This is the second time we have stayed in 21, Shoregate, Crail. Even two years on everything is just as lovely. I have never slept in a more comfortable bed and I even ordered the pillows on return as unfortunately we couldn't get them in the suitcase!!! Everything is so clean and I think this is down to Karen the housekeeper. Wonderful position overlooking the harbour - we had lovely weather which was such a bonus. The TV had a problem while we were there and within a few days we had a brand new one arranged by the owner, Nina. We have travelled to many places and this has to be one of our favourite.!! J

Response from the owner Thankyou so much for your lovely review. Inevitably, the odd thing can go wrong occasionally, but we aim to put it right as quickly as possible.

The whole holiday experience, including the booking of the holiday, the very professional website and the obvious personal caring of the owner was simply superb! 21 Shoregate exceeded our expectations, which were already high! I cannot heap too much praise on the the owner of this Fife idyll! Their beautiful home was comparable with any 5 star property I've stayed in...either here or abroad! This is not just a place to's a place that is so well furnished,so clean and's the kind of place you really feel at home in. Every attention to detail has been carefully and lovingly considered. It's far and away the best holiday cottage I've ever experienced! I have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful home to all that appreciate the best!

Response from the owner Thank you so much for this lovely review. It was great that you had such a good holiday and we were delighted to be able to accommodate you!

“A haven by the sea”

We love 21 Shoregate. Arrived exhausted and left refreshed. A gorgeous cosy cottage with delicious decor, and a little patio with views to sit and admire, while drinking your coffee... Easy drive to St andrews and the other East Neuk villages. Lots to do in area - great visitor information book at the cottage. Lovely.

Response from the owner Thankyou for your lovely review. We know what you mean about arriving, exhausted and in need of a relaxing break. After a couple of days, the stress of the city melts away and we always leave feeling so much better!

“First time visit”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2011

This was our first visit to Crail and the East Neuk villages- both the accommodation and the area was beautiful. The house was just the right balance of good interior design coupled with a homely comfort. The village of Crail had good basic food shopping and lovely galleries and cafes, with the beach and coastal walks just round the corner. The visitor information in the house was well put together with plenty of suggestions of things to do and see. We only scratched the surface this time round and look forward to returning. In the spirit of generosity we heartily recommend anyone to visit although the selfish side would prefer to keep it a special secret!

Response from the owner Thank you so much for your lovely review of the cottage and area. We hope you enjoyed our Spring bulbs in the garden. We've managed to cram in more than 300 in our little coastal retreat! We look forward to welcoming you back.

The East Neuk is enchanting and Crail an outstanding place that epitomises my mental image of the perfect traditional fishing village. 21 Shoregate is one of those places that you really want to keep secret, a holiday cottage that feels like your own home. Perched above Crail harbour with the winding garden looking out above the orange tiled rooftops to the sea the location is perfect. Just make sure you keep it a secret too.

Response from the owner We love secrets too and we promise not to share this one too widely! In fact, we have so many return guests that new guests have a hard time getting in. Book soon for next year - we're filling up already!

“Fantastic cottage”

Reviewed 7 Mar 2011

Had a wonderful time in this delightful immaculate cottage just along from the harbour in Crail. Beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished it was almost better than home. Lovely welcome pack when we arrived and smellies in the bathroom too. Local shops helpful and delightful harbours and St andrews reasonably near. Would love to go back at a warmer time of the year. The only drawback was the lack of mobile phone signal and therefore mobile wifi internet access in the cottage and the surrounding areas.

Response from the owner Thank for your very helpful comments on the cottage. We have provided a telephone with an honesty system, so that guests can keep in touch. Generally, mobile signals are patchy along the coast. WiFi is available in the Honeypot, which is the very welcoming, local tea room. We have surveyed our previous guests and most say they do not require WiFi in the cottage, but we are always reviewing the situation.

“Home from home”

Reviewed 5 Mar 2011

We spent a glorious time in your "little bit of heaven" in Crail. Coming "home to our cottage" at the end of a day was pure bliss. Drinking wine out on the patio in the evening, listening to the bumble bees in the garden while watching the odd fishing boat come in and the birds settling down for the evening, then back into the cottage for our meal - what more could a soul need. We were so comfortable that we only ate out once! Many thanks for your wonderful starter pack Nina - a big help. It was great to have all the shops we needed just up the road. What a marvellous butchery Crail has and the freshly picked strawberries from the vegetable shop were delicious. Everything we could possibly have needed was there for us. Such a comfy bed to sleep in and a bathroom shower with power, what a pleasure. We do think you should have a 5star rating.

Response from the owner What a lovely review! Many thanks. Our guests from South Africa are being particularly generous. They visited during the British Open in St Andrews, and the weather was very mixed and not as sunny as we had hoped for. At least the Open was won by a South African player and we hope this was some consolation!

What a wondeful cottage, so comfy with the biggest cosies bed. In a great location, close to wonderful coastal walks, easy drive, or bus ride to st andrews. the perfect week was enjoyed ..

Response from the owner Thank you so much. We certainly get lots of comments about our super king bed. The secret is in the bed linen - 200 thread count egyptian cotton from The White Company - only the best for our guests!
