“A hidden gem-peaceful and relaxing!”
We loved this cottage. It was spotless and had everything we could possbily need. Our dogs and kids (middle school aged) loved the trails/streams that are throughout the property. The owner is nearby but we had total privacy and peace & quiet, and our dogs could roam free. Deep Creek Lake is about a 10 minute drive from the property & Swallow Falls about 15 minutes-that is a must see for swimming at the bottom of the waterfall. One of our best family vacations ever and we will be back!
“Fall Family Fun!”
I loved this cottage because it was small and quaint, clean and cozy, and set in a small area surrounded by woods and beautifully colored leaves. The fire pit was really nice with lots of wood available and we felt very much at home and relaxed during our stay. The price is excellent for the area and for being just 15 minutes away from the Deep Creek Lake resort area.
“Little Cabin near Deep Creek Lake”
We had a fun midweek stay at Blue Goose cottage. The location is several miles from the touristy madness up at Deep Creek Lake, but is close enough to run over for dinner and other activities. We had a great time going to the lake, to the bonfire at Deep Creek, and touring the Huskie training camp. The cabin is cute, and spotlessly clean. It sits on the edge of a large area of lush woods, with several fine walking/hiking trails and "swimming holes" galore! The bedding in the cabin is very comfortable (looks brand new!) and the kitchen was well stocked with everything you could possibly want. The owners were attentive (checking in by phone to see if everything was OK) without being visible. The cabin has a small covered porch that's nice for sitting and listening to the night sounds and there's also a firepit that was a big hit with my grandaughter! The only thing that would keep us from renting again is the lack of comfortable living room furniture. The futon that serves as a couch in the living room has long ago outlived it's usefulness, and is more than just uncomfortable--it's just impossible to sit on. (When you rent a "cabin", you expect a little "rustic"...but at the end of a long day hiking and swimming--you need to be able to relax comfortably.) It wasn't a deal breaker for us, but would be a consideration in returning. Still, it's still a nice spot, outside of the busy Deep Creek area to spend a couple of nights.
“Great place for a weekend retreat”
I booked this cottage as a birthday present to my girlfriend. I was looking for a place close or in deep creek that didn't have 10 bedrooms like many deep creek mansions have. I also wanted a place we could bring our dog. I found the Blue Goose online and found it to have everything we were looking for in a relaxing weekend retreat. I thought, due to the low price, that it wouldn't be a very nice place however it fit all of the criteria. I couldn't have been more misled by the pictures, what a great little place! It was built using wood from a barn built in the mid 1800's which gave it some character. The porch that wrapped around the front of the cottage was great for lounging. The bed was comfortable enough and the kitchen was just enough to cook meals each night. The real surprise was the property itself. They mention hiking trails but I wasn't expecting it to be this nice. Two trails traverse the property each well over a mile with streams running through them. Our dog was in heaven playing on the rocks in the stream and we had a great time exploring the wildlife. The hammock out front was a great place to relax and the firepit was fun to sit by after building a nice bonfire. Some complaints that we read on other sites were that it's not as secluded as the description would lead you to believe. You can see the owners house from the front porch but they respect your privacy and I didn't really even notice them after the first day. It would be nice if they upgraded the couch and TV but we managed to get comfortable after a while. We went into friendsville which was really just a one road town but had a small foodstore which had everything we needed. The deep creek cellars winery is a nice stop that is only 5 minutes away. Deep creek itself is only 20 minutes south. In summary, our expectations were exceeded. The Offlake rentals staff was great and had the place clean and ready to go when we arrived. This is the perfect place for a weekend retreat
“Loved the trails but not as secluded as I thought.”
The owners were awesome & you could smell that the house had been clean. I loved having all the amenities of home & it was cozy. Awesome trail & water hole!!! There was a mouse who ate through everything we left on the counter but it's in the woods so that's to be expected. My only disappointment was that I was looking for seclusion & the owners live right next door & were building a barn that was even closer so there was men on the roof w/hammers most of the day. That was very disappointing because I didn't feel comfortable unless I was on the trails away from the cabin. The futon couch is really uncomfortable & two of the comforters had dog hair on them & were dirty. However, the owner offered a free stay on check out day because no one else was coming-very nice!!
“No frills but great fun!”
We have now stayed at this location several weekends since 2008. 2 major reasons: Location and surroundings. It's nice that it is so close to Deep Creek if you choose to go out; it's nicer if you choose to stay in and hike from the front door! Clearly, we will continue to visit again and again. Having said that, there are a few things we would improve: 1. The charges, while not entirely over the top, are a little on the high side when you consider that nothing is included. No dish liquid, not even salt & pepper, no handsoap in the bath, extra charges for linens, etc. Generally, we bring our own linens to save ( we forgot them this last time; thanks for providing at the last minute!!). We don't feel it would affect the profit margin to include these few basic needs. 2. The futon in the living room is the most uncomfortable piece of furniture ever! Again, we have been there many times. It is a joke between us of who will have to sit there. We realize it is also a bed and therefore the cabin can accomodate more, but we can't stress enough how uncomfortable it is just to watch tv for a while. 3. This does not pertain to us and we would still reccomend but with an explanation that the shower is extremely small. Example: 2 of our relatives are over 6 feet; would not be able to fit! This should probably be better expained in the description. That's it. Nothing is perfect but our stays are enjoyable!
Response from the manager Thank you for your feedback. Please do know that the homeowner did indeed upgrade the furniture in the living room and your feedback helped him in identifying a nice way to improve the guest experience at his cottage.
“Second stay at Blue Goose. Love it.”
Stayed there for nine days this past august. Great place quiet and peaceful. Beautiful scenic trails. Very comfortable place. Owner is class act and easliy contacted if needed. Two things i would add is queen bed in master bedroom and small night stand, also bedroom could use full size mirror. But that just me being picky. Will be back and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all. place is very well kept and clean.
“A great way to get away from work”
A nice quiet location, everything was very clean. not to far from deep creek, the trails were very adventurous through the woods all in all a great place to stay for the weekend.
“Perfect little cabin”
We had a wonderful stay at the Blue Goose Cottage. The directions are very clear and it was easy to find. The cabin is perfectly stocked with blankets, sheets, the kitchen is very nice, and most of all we were very warm. My aunt and uncle are from California and so they were constantly cold - but not in the cabin. The way it is build - the heat is very very good. I look forward to another visit sometime in the future. Thanks for such a great experience!
“Peaceful Place to Stay”
Blue Goose is very quaint and the surroundings are very peaceful. With all of the trails behind the property and beyond, this is a great place to ride your ATVs or hike, with plenty of wildlife. The owners are next door and are very accomodating and friendly - almost family! Plus, it's close to Deep Creek Lake and surrounding parks. No matter which place we stay at every year, the Offlake Rental Staff are very courteous and provide wonderful incentives and discounts because we are returning customers - which in this economic time goes a long way and helps tremendously when planning our vacations in the mountains. I would recommend this property as well as Offlake Rentals to anyone wanting a place off the beaten path in the mountains.
