“Peace and calm”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2012

An oasis of peace and tranquility less than 2hrs from our home. Very well appointed house on a working farm which left us wanting for nothing..even the weather was beautiful during our stay.It was so lovely to sit and watch the swifts swooping over the valley and to wake to lambs bleating...and the odd quad bike as the local farmer tended the livestock!! Bentham is a lovely working town with local Butchers and Bakers providing excellent produce. The only negative was limited walks directly from the house, but only a short drive needed to reach some stunning areas.

“Happy families week end”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2012

Lovely house - well appointed. For us too many single beds and the main bathroom could do with a shower. Lovely enjoying the peace and quiet of rural England but at the same time not having to worry about disturbing the neighbours!!! The 1.1 mile long lane requires some attention as it was very rutted in parts. It takes over 10 minutes to drive to the house. We weren't happy about walking through a herd of cows with an active bull with them and no electric fence to keep them away - quite intimidating. We only went for one walk from the house because of this. Plus points - Tesco will do a grocery delivery - yippee!! and the Coach House in Higher Bentham does a very good Sunday lunch

“Beautiful location and home”

We had a lovely week in this beautiful farm house. Nothing lacking in the home. The countryside and wildlife were exceptional.

“Birthday get-a-way for 8”

Reviewed 1 Dec 2011

Lovely accommodation in a beautiful setting with an amazing fire! We didn't find the fire straight away as the lounge had been locked from the inside, but after a while we found the outside door. We arrived in the dark which proved fun to find the signs. It was fantastic for our needs with a large kitchen and lounge, it is definitely remote, so if you like shops it's not for you. We never made it to the pub as it seemed a longer walk than thought but this wasn't a problem as the lounge was very spacious.

“A lovely place”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2011

I have stayed at this property twice and have been entirely satisfied with the house, the cleanliness, the serviceand the comfort. I first stayed in December, when we had deep snow. The house was perfectly warm and snug. When we got stuck in the ice (the only problem we encountered was the long, rough drive) the neighbouring farmer, and the agent were extremely helpful. I shall be returning, hopefully this year.

“More than a home from home!”

Reviewed 16 May 2011

We had a wonderful holiday. The location was amazing. We had peace and quiet for a whole week. The accommodation was excellent - spacious and well equipped! Our daughter-in-law arrived first and her text message said ' The cottage is lovely, I want to live here!'. Our 2 year old granddaughter loved the sheep and the cows. We were all sorry the week had to end. What more can you say!!

“relaxing”

Reviewed 8 Nov 2010

Had a great weekend here, so relaxing and very romantic hide away. Very secluded even though nearest shops are only 5 minutes down the road! (by car) Lovely views over the moors and your own gorgeous patio with little stream beyond the gate safe for children to paddle in. The house is charming and the owners provide milk on arrival and fresh flowers, tea and coffee! will definately be back to this wonderful cottage. A big thank you to sykes for being so friendly and helpful they really went out of their way to help us find the right property at a great price! we will be using sykes every time from now on!

“Winter wonderland.......”

Reviewed 3 Feb 2010

Our first ever Christmas away from home was a huge break with tradition. Severe winter weather did not deter us and ensconced in our 4x4 we made the journey. The road conditions deteriorated and we were told our property was unreachable due to drifting snow. We were put up in another cosy barn conversion for the night. Smaller than the house we had booked, my night was spent on the settee whilst family members took the bedrooms, but I had the wood burning stove! A hairy drive into Higher Bentham and we had a wonderful cosy supper in a local pub. The next day dawned with a fresh covering of snow. A glorious day with clear skies and brilliant snow sparkling in the sunshine. A walk/stumble through the fields was the order of the day while the property owners managed to arrange snow clearing to Lower Crossdale. So 24 hours late we arrived at our destination. Truly remote and wild it was everything we expected. A lovely setting along a winding unmade up road out in the moors. The house was tastefully decorated for Christmas and provided excellent accomodation and facilities. Scrupulously clean and very well designed for family living it was exactly as we expected. Sub zero temperatures unfortunately saw the central heating break down, but the property manager made a huge effort to come out late at night with a supply of hot water bottles, fan heaters and extra fuel for the wood burner. The next day saw the engineers arrive on a JCB digger and we were soon warm and cosy. . The weather made travel difficult but a drive to York gave us an insight into spectacular changing scenery. Christmas Day took us to early morning service and it was back to the house for mulled wine on the sunny terrace all very Alpine! The kitchen offered everything to produce Christmas lunch. Snow made travel difficult but the scenery, excellent accomodation and lovely friendly welcome made it truly memorable Chrismas and we aim to return in easier weather.

“holiday cottage on borders of Lancashire and Yorkshire”

Reviewed 3 Dec 2009

The farmhouse is very secluded and has about 1 mile of track before you get to it. The scenery is spectacular and you really feel away from it all. Bentham is about 3 miles from the farmhouse and we went to a sheep auction which was vry interesting. There are some lovely yorkshire villages roundabout and kendal is not that far away. The accommodation is very spacious (8 adults stayed there), a nice big kitchen/diner, good sized living room and 4 good bedroom (1 ensuite). I thoroughly recommend Lower Croasdale if you want a rest. I would definitely go back there for another holiday. The utility room has everything you need and we had a really restful holiday. I hadn't been to the North Yorkshire moors before and the scenery was breathtaking. Very good value for money and I would thoroughly recommend this cottage. The only drawback is the unmade road, but that didn't stop us getting out and about and it is lovely for a walk, as you don't get much traffic down it (only farm traffic). Overall 5 stars as I really enjoyed the holiday.
