“Pleasant restful break”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2013

We received a warm welcome from the owner of Sunny Hill. The property itself was very clean, tidy and comfortable. As a single storey cottage, with no steps to negotiate inside, it was also very accessible for anyone with mobility problems. My daughter and her friend enjoyed being able to spend time in the garden relaxing and having fun in the early evening after a day out. Sue, the owner was very knowledgeable about amenities such as restaurants, pubs etc. All her suggestions proved to be 'spot on' with regard to who would provide us with good service etc. The cottage was located in a very peaceful village surrounded by lovely views. It was well situated for walkers and anyone keen to see more of the Lake District. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable time and returned home feeling like we'd had a good break.

“Relaxing”

Lovely well equipped cottage. Light and airy and quite spacious. Would have preferred a washing machine to the dishwasher, but no complaints. Very quiet village and the local pubs were great for meals.

Warm welcome from lovely owners who left us a bottle of wine and cake.Cottage was beautifully furnished, very warm and cosy -there was a wood burning stove which we did not need to use as the weather was very mild.Lovely outlook from Cottage onto open fields and garden full of wildlife.

“Superb in all aspects”

Great service from Sykes. Lovely friendly owners of a superb property. An excellent location for the lake district and for the Cumbria/Westmorland area. Very nice village with a good eating pub, but, lots of other eating places on the a6, within a few miles. We had a lovely welcome from the owners - bottle of wine and other goodies. Wouls love to go again. Mic and Jenny hall

“Great cottage, great owners, great week away, Great Strickland!”

We've visited Sunny Hill before but in the bleak midwinter of 2009, so we were keen to revisit without snow drifts and be able to explore more of the beautiful Cumbrian countryside that we just could not get to first time around. We were not disappointed - the walk to the village pub is just right, with a fantastic menu to suit everyone. Sue and Joe are so accommodating and nothing is too much trouble for them to ensure you have a great relaxing stay. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and is so comfortable. The weather was amazingly mild for mid-March which all added to the overall pleasure of the week - we even managed to sit out in the garden for lunch on two days and use the garden swing to have forty winks after our lunchtime bottle of wine, left as a welcoming gift from our hosts. I think we may even go back again in another season - we've yet to spot those red squirrels that many other visitors seem to have seen many times before us!

“very peaceful escape”

A lovely welcoming cottage. If you want to get away from it all its perfect as it is very secluded. There is no shop in the village so if you are not wanting to drive then ensure you have all your supplies as it is about 5 mile to the nearest one. The fire starter pack does not last long, I reccomend taking fire lighters with you I did for one day and the fire lasted much longer. The home made cake and wine that was there for our arrival was a lovely touch would definatley return

“Quiet Cottage with no disturbances!”

We stayed here for a week during august, weather was iffy but the cottage was so nice that it didn't matter if we stayed inside for a day or two. There's plenty of walks to go on, very close location to Penrith, Ullswater and other lakes. We went over to Kendal to see a play at the Theatre by Windermere, which was hilarious. The owners are really welcoming, warm and accommodating.

“Absolutely Fabulous”

Sunny Hill is an excellent cottage in a very peaceful location. The owners are brilliant hosts and very nice people. The location is great for the Lakes and the Dales. Even for towns and shops. A totally comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

“Beautiful”

We try to make a trip to he Lake District a yearly event. We prefer to be just outside the busiest area's when in the Lakes. Sunny Hill was a perfect find for us. Peace and quiet within a well kept garden to return to after a day touring the area. The local pub prepared superb meals...roll on next year when we hope to make a return trip to Sunny Hill and its friendly helpful owners.
