“Lovely cottage”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2014

Had a wonderful holiday at Mill Coottage, Buckden. A very cosy, well equipped cottage in a wonderful setting. Would have liked a shower as the bath is very difficult to get in and out if anyone has joint problems. We did not use the dishwasher as there wasn't enough crockery.

What a fantastic cottage! Spotlessly clean, well equipped, beautiful location in the middle of Upper Wharfedale with a stream running past it. Cottage has everything you need, including WiFi which has been installed since we stayed the first time. However, with the Dales on your doorstep and all the wonderful walking, WiFi is not that important! An open fire is lovely for the chillier evenings. Our daughter loved the stream and regularly put her wellies on and went exploring for 'treasures'. Perfect, and we will go back for a third visit.

“Characterful cottage in a characterful village”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2013

Our stay in Mill Cottage was wonderful. We had some initial problems with the heating, but the owners got in touch within minutes of hearing about it. The peacefulness of the cottage and surroundings was accentuated by the bubbling brook alongside the cottage and terrace and the sound of the sheep that roam the surrounding hills. The cottage has all the amenities one could wish for. The location is great, and we loved our neighbours, the local pub, with free wifi, friendly service and good food. The village is very pretty, the surroundings beautiful. The local shop only has the very bare essentials, so pick up your groceries on the way to the cottage. That would be the only disadvantage.

“A great base for walking in the Dales”

A lovely cottage, with excellent decor. Even boasts its own stream running by the back door! The excellent Buck Inn is next door, offering great food & drink.

“Idilic cosy cottage”

Lovely cosy cottage Sooty ( the dog ) loved warming by the wood burner.Had a brilliant time watching the birds feed by the stream.Very high specification in kitchen & bathroom just a shame no shower. Brilliant area fantastic scenery and walks from the door. No enclosed area for dogs.

“A very comfortable and delightful location”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2011

Mill Cottage is a very comfortable place to stay, it is in a very good location for walking. Sadly the pub, 100 yards away, was closed. I understand it did open but closed again. There are good pubs within 2 miles, but it means getting the car out.

“fantastic walking area”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2011

A lovely comfortable warm cottage, a couple of negative points is there is no shower, and no sun shine in the evening, shaded as under trees. And the pub in the village was close. But the area was great for many lovely long walks with the meadows looking amazing.

“Quiet corner in the Dales”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2010

We had a lovely stay at Mill Cottage with a 10 week old baby; our first holiday away. The village is perfect for this type of holiday, with a shop, pub and tearoom on your doorstep as well as lots of accessible walks for all levels. Within easy driving distance there are plenty of interesting tourist days out.

“Beautiful Yorkshire Dales holiday”

Reviewed 7 Dec 2009

This was a perfect location for a walking and cycling holiday. We walked to Hubberholme, Kettlewell, Buckden Pike. Cycled to Starbottom, Grassington and Greenfields. The cottage was in a picturesque location with some good pubs within walking distance, and a couple of coffee shops and a convenience store in the village. The cottage was very clean and comfortable, lots of room and very well equipped. There was a really pretty seating area outside next to the stream. Unfortunately, we couldn't use it because of the swarms of midges at that time of year. We are looking forward to returning. This accommodation would provide a perfect location at any time of the year, and is probably lovely and cosy in winter.

“The nicest cottage we have rented through Sykes Cottages”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2009

This cottage was absolutely perfect: a stream ran past both front and back doors, the decor was immaculate, the bed superbly comfortable and the deep rolltop bath an absolute boon after a day's walking. The kitchen was totally modern and well appointed, there were full instructions in the drawer about using the applicances - couldn't be better. The only disappointment was the local pub - the Buck - where the food was poorly cooked and presented, and the pub itself was over-lit and not very welcoming. Even the George at Hubberholme, although well known as a good local hostelry, seemed to have lost its vigour, and the food was again disappointing. The White Lion, up the hill from Buckden, was an awful lot better than its local rivals.
