“Everything you could possibly want when renting a holiday cottag”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2013

We had a very good time at The Steading Cottage, the house was very comfortable, left nothing to be desired. Two very comfortable en-suite bedrooms with very good beds, a very well equipped kitchen, a comfy lounge, a really nice place to stay. Kinlochleven is a pleasant village at the head of a very beautiful loch, Loch Leven, and everything you need for everyday life is available in the village, a Co-op store that sells you everything you need and has long opening hours, there is a small community house/village hall where you can find internet-facilities, a post office, information for walkers, etc. There are several places to go for breakfast, dinner or drinks. Kinlochleven is a very good starting place for hikers. The surrounding area is stunningly beautiful, with Glencoe just around the corner and Fort William not too far away, with Glen Nevis nearby, a beautiful valley at the foot of Ben Nevis, also an ideal place for hiking. There are so many places to go to, you really have a hard time choosing where to go and what to see. Do not take the Jacobite Steam train, we found it a great big disappointment. You would expect to see stunning countryside but mostly you get to see lots of trees blocking the view. Mallaig is a nice little town for a visit, it's much better to take the road from Fort William to Mallaig, much better views and you can stop and get out of the car and look around. We most emphatically did not like Oban, don't go there, unless you like the HideeHi-HideeHo atmosphere of old-fashioned holiday camps.(Butlin? forget the name). When driving to and from Kinlochleven take the road on the Southern side of the loch, far more beautiful than the road on the Northern side, simply drive on to Ballachulish and cross the bridge there to go to Fort William. We had a wonderful time, we can recommend this cottage without any hesitation.
