This is a great vacation rental property for a couple or small groups of 4 or less people. First of all, you can't beat the panoramic view of the water and what's more, the water is just 10 ft away. The front yard is one of the best if not the best with a lot of gardening and the antiques placed in the garden easily beats the boring gnomes. The interior of the house has a very wood cabin like feel to it and if you're looking for modern furniture, you'll be disappointed but if you're into a quaint little cottage like atmosphere, this will not disappoint. The 2 bedrooms are well kept and there are tons of pictures on the wall from the owners' travels all over the world and they're very interesting. There is no flat screen TV but the old color TV is more than sufficient - it has cable with most big channels you'll need (no premium ones except maybe Encore). They also have a ton of Dvds and Music CDs for your entertainment if you ever get bored of the views from the wrap around deck :-) The sunrises from this deck are awesome if you can wake up early - no sunsets cuz that's on the other side but you can always walk/drive over to the Overseas highway within minutes to catch the sunsets from there. The other amenities worth mentioning are the inground hot tub/spa they have which was awesome - you can view the ocean from the spa. If that wasn't close enough a view, you can pick up the huge Kayak they have and walk right into the water and row away. If there was any drawback, it was these bugs called no-see-ums that come out in full force in the evenings and if you aren't taking necessary protection, they will wreak havoc on your skins, but the owners/realtors can't do much about this. Just get some Off spray or something and you'll be fine. Overall this was a memorable trip for us and we hope it will be for you too. Thanks!
Response from the manager Awesome! We're so happy you enjoyed all the amenities the home had to offer!! Thank you for choosing Freewheeler Vacations, we hope to see you again soon!!
“Your Grandparents House with an amazing view”
This house so reminds me of my grandparent house. The décor and appliances are pretty outdated but functional. It's full of quirky decorations and pictures that are fun. Seeing naked picture of your grandparents was quite strange though. However, if it had been updated, we wouldn't have been able to afford the house. You can't beat the view. The water was so clear that you could see all kinds of sea life swimming by. The beach is small with little sand, but it's yours. It would be nice if they brought in some sand for by the patio. The sunrises are amazing from the deck. There's no sleeping in when you have that gift waiting for you each morning. Each room has large, sliding, glass doors that can be opened to enjoy the view of the ocean. Listening to the waves and feeling the ocean breezes at night made for a great nights sleep. Preparing meals was heavenly with the amazing view. It doesn't have a pool but the kids really liked the hot tub. The manager was great to work with and very helpful. The house is located about 5 miles from the southern end of Islamorada. Your about 1 1/2 hours to Key West and 1/2 hour to Key Largo. In our opinion, Islamorada was the best in the chain of town on the islands. It's a very sweet, quaint town. We enjoyed the house so much that we hardly left. This saved us a ton of money on playing. We saved so much money on food by preparing it ourselves. I do wish it had a gas BBQ. We had so much fun that we are already budgeting to return next spring. We can't wait!
Response from the manager Thank you for your review you left, we're glad you enjoyed the house and all the views!!! Thank you for leaving the pictures, we love to see them!!!
“Okay, not great”
We stayed for about a week. I called the day of our arrival as we were going to be late and was told the packet would be in the mailbox outside, but was not there. We had to call the emergency number and they apologized and came right away. The management company is very attentive and no matter what you ask for, they are out immediately to remedy whatever complaint you have. The place is "dated" and does not seem to be well kept, but this may reflect the owners rather than the management company. It is right on the water and has a great view, but the blinds on one window in the living room did not work. The TV is quite old, but workable and there was a DVD player and lots of Dvd's to play. The water pressure was terrific, but the oven did not work and burned some baked goods in less than 3 minutes of putting it in the oven. I told the management company when we checked out and they said they wished I would have told them sooner, but it happened on the weekend and it would not have mattered too much. They want you to check out by 10 am (keys in office) and do laundry and bedding, but that was not possible. It is a good central location in Islamorada.
“Awesome rental in the heart of the Florida Keys!”
The photos didn't do justice to this incredible beach house right on the oceanside beach around the "midway" point. The owners of this wonderful home have been around the world across their very fulfilling lifetime and their travels are documented in pictures and artifacts from their travels. The sun comes up on the side of the house that faces the ocean making for a nice early morning welcome to the laid back pace of life in the Florida keys. The spa on ground level, 4 foot tall white marble Buddha that greets you before taking the stairs to the second level and the winding driveway past a 10 foot or so tall, Asian totem help frame this as a nice seclusion away even though it is in a residential neighborhood. The MM where this is located is around midway between Miami and Key West and is central to so many things. Word to the wise though - no-see-ums can be considered Florida's state bird, there are so many of them. They are tiny "sharks with wings" smaller than a pencil point which means they can get through window and doorwall screens. We learned this the hard way and after talk to locals you do not sleep with just the screens open to the outside at night. We would definitely book this place again on a return trip to the Keys. The folks at Freewheeler are a pleasure to deal with and took care of the couple things we needed promptly.
“Good New/Bad News”
The house is right on the water, as the photos suggest, but there is hardly a beach. The sand bar goes out for miles, and the water is very shallow for as far as you can walk. The house is comfortable-a very well-worn but comfortable beach house. Everything works. The outdoor terrace overlooking the ocean was the best part of the house---until the sand fleas (or no see 'ums?)started biting. They were horrible! The first few nights were wonderful...no bugs. Not sure if it was a change in the weather (it got a little warmer) or the fact that the wind died...but my wife and I woke up at 4 in the morning, having scratched ankles, filled with dozens of bites, and quite bloody. It is clearly no one's fault---but the owners or the management company might have suggested that this was a possibility. Be prepared!
“Great location and needs major renovations.”
The location was very private and quiet with wonderful scenery. The house needs major renovations in bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms. The outside furniture should be completely changed and updated. We found it very expensive for what we got.
“Great location and view”
While the location and view at this house were spectacular, the house itself needs some TLC. The outdoor furniture needs replacing and the purchase of a grill would enhance the experience greatly. Since the outdoor spaces are so great for enjoying the view, the comfort of some adequate seating would be welcomed. The bed was very comfy in the master and to sleep hearing the waves roll in was awesome. The baths are ok, but could also use a little work- ceiling tiles falling down, etc. It is conveniently located to everything without being in the midst of it all. Love Islamorada! Will come back again especially for the fishing and the great restaurants. Might want to experience a rental bayside next time just to change up the view from sunrise to sunset! Overall, we had a great trip and the house fit our needs. A couple with two kids would easily find this place doable.
“Fabulous Florida Fantasy”
Visited in august 2012. Perfect for the 4 of us. Having the bedrooms on either side of the house was great. All the accomadations were perfect, not fancy, but everything you need. Watching at midnight the far off lightening from the deck was so unique and beautiful, certainly nothing I've ever seen before.
Property needs to be updated carpeting should be pulled out. Great location. We would return
Overall Good location. Halfway between Miami and Key West.
