“Photos do not due this location justice!”
Beautiful, well-kept cabin on the perfect sized lake. I knew we'd found a wonderful location when my children were oooohhhh-ing and aaaahhhing as we pulled into the driveway. The view of the lake is breathtaking! My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. The owner was there when we checked in and give us some "local secrets" were to fish and other opportunities not far from the cabin. He was a wonderful resource and very cordial. Sharing photos of our trip afterwards, a coworker commented by saying "it looks like summer camp!" That about sums it up - truly the perfect Minnesotan experience! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
Response from the owner We call our cabin a bit of paradise and glad when others enjoy it as much as we do. Thank you!
“A Perfect Fit”
We loved our stay here - the house has that rustic, old school cabin feel, but with a modern kitchen and bathroom (very important!). There's lots of outdoor space for the kids to play, quiet neighbors, and you're not too far from area attractions if you feel like an outing. We also loved the view - there are no structures across the lake from the house, so it feels extra reclusive. Would definitely come again!
“The perfect place to get away from it all.”
My husband and my children ages 10 and 15 came with me for a 3 night stay in the cabin. Vern and Faith are great hosts! We spent one day hiking at Gooseberry falls and visiting Split Rock Lighthouse- they are about 45 minutes away. We spent the rest of the time at the cabin fishing, playing frisbee, playing horse shoes, in the water, and relaxing. We ate all our meals on the deck and enjoyed a fire pit every night. The kitchen has everything you would need. It was peaceful and we enjoyed the beautiful weather. The only improvements would be to have a bigger hot water heater. But we had 2 people shower in the morning and 2 in the evening so it worked out. The beds are reasonable, but not super cushy. This cabin is a great place to stay with your family to get away from the hustle and bustle.
“A lovely relaxing vacation spot!”
Our family enjoyed the cabin, lake, and fishing! The cabin is perfectly outfitted for guests. Our grand kids loved fishing, both off the dock and out in the canoe! We had planned to take some day trips, but once there we just enjoyed the surroundings and being with family. We are already making plans to return next summer!
“Quiet, relaxing and peaceful vacation with Great View and access to Lake”
We rented this cabin on Bassett Lake for 4 days. It was a fun and enjoyable time. The cabin was roomy and the fishing was good. It was also quiet and peaceful. Thanks to Vern and Faith for being great hosts. Thank again!
“Beautiful... There isn't a better way to describe this place.”
I highly recommend spending a week or even two at this cabin in the woods. The cabin itself is beautiful. Recently updated and very clean. There is a spectacular view of the lake from the living room and front deck. We watched Trumpeter Swans swim by one evening. The dock area is ample enough to handle up to an 18 foot boat. Plus the fishing from there is GREAT! The picture of the Crappies is what the kids caught from the dock the first day plus countless Pike. Even hooked into a Walleye but didn't get that one in. The cabin is very secluded so if you are thinking of booking please keep that in mind. The nearest grocery store is in Two Harbors which is an hours drive. That being said there IS a bait shop about a mile away that has everything you need to catch fish plus some groceries like milk, TP, ketchup, shore lunch, pop and ice, but expect to pay more for it. Like 3.75 for a 1/2 gallon of milk. The bait was priced fair though. There is also Hugo's where you can get a bite to eat and have a beer. They also have a few groceries and gas as well but again the prices are a bit higher. They only have NON-OXY gas FYI. There is NO cell service except for AT&T from what I am told. I have Verizon and had nothing. My wife has T-Mobile and wants me to say that if you place your phone on the front left corner of the dresser in the master bedroom you will get signal. Enough to send texts. The owners do however provide a land line for use to call out if needed. If you have kids they should be the outdoors kind of kids. There isn't anything around to entertain them in the ways of electronic or mall stuff. This place is in the middle of nowhere remember. My kids had a great time there. Even the 17 year old, even though he missed his truck terribly. They even went swimming off the dock the 1st week in June!!! (I do warn that it does drop off quickly though.) There is a very nice paved public access to launch your boat a mile down the road. Vern and his wife are very nice people and do a great job of making you feel welcome. No matter how wonderful a place is there is always a con. The only CON to this place is an undersized water heater for 7 people. We could take 2 10 minute showers before we ran out of hot water. Not a big deal in my book but it should be noted. Would I stay hear again? YES!
