“Hot Buggy House with beautiful furnishings, amazing views and a”
Spectrum was a pleasure to worth with during our booking and our stay. They were quick to respond to any problems we experienced during our stay. The top level with the Master Suite was the only level that stayed cool. And it was a beautiful room! The first three levels were like a hot box unless you left the thermostats set on about 60 for the week, make sure to keep all the blinds closed. Bugs, lots of different ones on all the levels, mainly ants on the kitchen/LR level. The decor and furnishings are lovely. It has beautiful ocean views, great pool! I would not recommend this house for someone who can't do steps, this house gives you a great workout!
Response from the manager Thanks for your input - we will have our HVAC repair folks check the air conditioning since we have not experienced other complaints. We should add that this owner has hired a contractor to do some major renovation to this popular after the rental season ends. We hope you will come back and stay with us again!
“Mostly wonderful... just don't use the basement.”
So, I've thought about this a lot. Let's start with the top of 4 floors. Spectacular. Master suite. Ocean front views with mini deck.Next floor down... very comfortable living space and dining table for 10. Double living room space is a plus and a half bath. Next floor down is also nice. Two sets of bunk beds in one room and another queen room and another TV/couch area with bathroom with washer/dryer.. But then there's the the basement. Cement walls. No windows. Mold. Cockroaches. Spiders. Gross. Thank God we had 2 uncles who were willing to endure it.
Response from the manager Thanks for your input...several other reviews have mentioned the problems with the basement. We have already spoken with the owner, and he plans to totally renovate the basement area as well as install new carpet and update any other areas of the house that are in need - this work will be performed during the fall 2013. We hope you will come back next year and enjoy this nice updated oceanfront home!
“Two of the bedrooms are not pleasant to stay in”
The good news is that the majority of the house is great. Awesome views, nice clean pool, solid common area, etc. But, and this is a big but, two of the bedrooms are on the first level and they are not pleasant. The lower level is very dark, has no windows, appears to be a converted garage, is damp and we spotted two cockroaches (one alive and one dead). We have a 3 month old son and were supposed to stay down there and simply couldn't. We had to shuffle the rooms around and my 40 yr old brother and his wife ended up sleeping on the upstairs bunk beds b/c they wouldn't sleep down there either. They really should have more disclaimers about the two downstairs beds.
Response from the manager Thanks for your helpful comments. We have contacted the owner, and he has already hired a contractor to make some major changes in the first level (basement) area as well as installing new carpet and updating other areas of Seabiscuit. Seabiscuit is one of our most popular homes and is ususally booked for the entire summer. The owner realizes his beautiful oceanfront house with a private pool needs some updating and has already committed to making all the necessay changes. We hope you will come back and stay again with us next year!
Overall we enjoyed the Seabiscuit. It was the perfect size for two families. The layout of the beachouse was nice and we loved having our own pool! However, do not let the basement bedroom pictures fool you! We did not even use these two bedrooms (the queen bed and the double bed in room with bunk beds). These were in the basement and the entire basement smelled of must and mildew! Also the bedroom with the bunks and full bed seemed to be unfinished and had a pipe (that know one could explain to us) that came out over the top bunk bed). We were very disappointed that these rooms could not be used. Obviously the pictures of these rooms online had looked great but a different story in person! We also were introduced to a so called "waterbug" which was not like any waterbug I had ever seen. Upon seeing it come out from under the fridge we called Spectrum, described it and they referred to it as a waterbug. I asked if we could please have an exterminator come out and they immediately took care of this. Spectrum was great to have as the realtor of this home. Apparently these bugs are common in North Carolina. We saw a couple more but then the extermination must of worked. The beach did tend to get a little crowded at times because of Peppertree right behind us. We did love the location, easy access to everything! I really hope something is done to fix the basement issues, because this truly is overall a very nice beach house...but we felt the basement was unusable! I think the price includes being able to use the basement.
Response from the manager Thanks for sharing you thoughts with us concerning our beautiful oceanfront house called Seabiscuit. Seabiscuit has always been one of our most popular rental properties. We will pass along your comments concerning the basement area to the owner with suggestions that he make improvements in this part of the house.
“Well... There was a lot of good...but the bad outweighed the goo”
Overall the house was beautiful. However the Queen bed on bottom level was terrible and very squeeky. We love to cook but there was a lack of enough silverware and dishes. We also had to deal with a lot of ants. The main issue of the house was a big one... the temperature of the main living area was very hot. It was very uncomfortable to be in yet it was the only areea large enough for us all to be in together. Our main issue however is the location. We literally hated that it is located infront of a huge hotel/condo place. We would have never rented it had we known that ahead of time. They literally took over the entire beach. Every day was wall to wall to wall to wall people. Even though we went out early morning to put our chairs and umbrellas out, they would plop down directly infront of us and literally within a few feet all around us. They sat so close, we could hear every conversation anyone around us was having. We come to the area every summer for a kicked back relaxing vacation. We always love the fact that the beaches aren't overcowded. We have now found that exception and it is the beach infront of Seabiscuit. We will never consider renting this house again.
“It was great, better than expected!”
House was great, as advertised. Service by realtor and laundry company was excellent. Location was known to us and provided all we needed. Best - location next to beach, pool, close to fireworks Least - the dryer is a little slow. Could not have met our expectrations any better. Would rent again without reservation.
“End of the summer vacation.”
We decided on Seabiscuit for the location to atlantic beach and the new boat launch area. We had a problem with the keys not working and got that resolved. The house was very nice. We did have a problem with their not being a thermostat adjuster on the main level(we looked and could not find one). Some covering on the back deck would have been nice due to the rain(could not locate umbrella for the table).Overall, house was furnished nicely. The pool was great. The bedrooms on the bottom level are not very inviting and I would want to stay in them for a week. The closness to the Peppertree walkway does take away some privacy esp. in the pool area.
“Not as advertised”
This renovated house claims to have 5 bedrooms but fails to mention that 2 of them are located in the basement with no windows. Very musty and dark down there... Creepy really! In addition, two bedrooms must share a hall bathroom that also doubles as the laundry room. The upper floor is ok but the ac doesn't work very well so if needed, it's kindo if hot in the house .
