“Country charm... loved the donkey!”
Really cute, cozy & comfortable log cabin. Great sleeping, excellent bed, dark & quiet at night. You check in in town a few miles away and then need to find the place and unlock a gate yourself. You are then in a real ranch atmosphere.
“A Magical Weekend!”
High Meadow Cabin is a perfect spot if you want to get away from it all. While close enough to Fredricksberg downtown to partake of the sites and sounds, it is far enough away to feel as if you are in your own little world. We enjoyed relaxing on the porch and feeding apples to "Pony" and "Donkey"who became our buddies. At night we had roaring fires in the stone fireplace and talked late into the night. It was a great place to unplug and reconnect. We would recommend it highly and plan to return soon.
“Somewhere in Time”
Gastehaus Schmidt's has provided excellent service in getting a place where we could step back into a quieter, peaceful time and into a place to retreat from the hectic world into a wonderful, quaint cabin built for two which included fireplace, 4 poster bed, a kitchenet, a clawed foot bathtub/shower, a/c and heating and screen doors should you want the fresh air. All this with the natural landscaping of country living and quiet neighbors (who you don't even know they exist) The only neighbors that welcome you are a cute pony, a donkey and a few sheep and goats. The nights are calming too. The place is just outside of Fredericksburg where there are multiple shops, restaurants, art galleries, museums, which include the admiral Nimitz Museum (plan all day to see this, so much to see). Historical church, and other sites. The people are friendly and the beer and wine flow (should you want some with the excellent selections of food. The German food was mine and my husband's favorite food to eat. However they have all kinds. The cabin is also close to the Wildseed Farms/Nursery, LBJ Ranch, and a drive to Lukenbach and Burnie. I love the German atmosphere and the small time feeling of Fredericksburg.
“Unique Rustic Cabin”
Fredericksburg is a neat Texas town.Lots to do,shopping rock climbing,& Luchenbach is just down the road.its a must for all true Texans.the cabin is really well preserved and rustic. It has some modern Conviences that have been added to make it comfortable.I would recommend it to my mother, so that ought to be good enough
“Delightful Hill Country Cabin”
When we drove up, it reminded us of the Beverly Hillbillies - a cabin with front porch with rockers on it. Once inside, it was delightful. Decorated with a great deal of care and taste - classy country. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. When a storm happened during the night, it was great to listen to the rain on the tin roof. I would definitely recommend this cabin.
“Nice Cabin with very poorly marked/lit location on Hwy”
Poorly marked location with no lighting to find on hwy. It was a guessing game by trial and error with trying the lock combination to see if we had the right location! It was very difficult to locate the gate entry on the highway at night since there was no light on the highway or sign. Cabin was comfortable, could use cleaning. Window stills had dead bugs, cobwebs in ceiling, dirty tub. High Bed was very high and difficult to climb up on, needs step stool! Pillows had some type of plastic covers under pillow case, which were like sleeping on a plastic mattress cover! Several lights were out and needed bulbs. Creamer for coffee drinkers would also be nice. Could be a nice rental if these issues were looked after.
“Relaxing and Charming”
We loved this place and plan to make a return trip. The owner was friendly, and all the amenities were perfect for a two night stay. It was great to be centrally located to the wineries, even though its location is difficult to find. We definitely plan to make a return visit and stay at the High Meadow Cabin!!!
“Wonderful place - albeit tough to find initially.”
Cool place, delightful owner, wonderful area.My only complaint is with your rating categories - what happened to "Good"?
“Cozy, peaceful and close to everything.”
My husband and I stay here when we come to Fredericksburg for a getaway without the kids. It's well furnished, private and quiet. It's in the country, but close to F'burg, Luckenbach and the wineries. Love the fireplace, the comfy bed and the rockers on the porch.
“Wonderful and peaceful experience.”
This was a getaway for my Employer. I have stayed here and wanted them to have a good experience. The services were great. No hassle from the hosts. Easy pick up of keys and the location was wonderful. The atmosphere of the Hill Country was great and peaceful. Really close to Fredricksburg.
