“Ota After house review”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2016

The home and property are wonderful. There's no wifi, so that's a bummer. The furnishings and linens are a bit dated, but all in all a great home and experience! For the price, it's fantastic!

Response from the manager Thank you for your kind comments.

“Felt like home”

The home was clean except for a dirty blanket on the bed. Was comfortable with lots of room. Loved it

“Very good Value and Convenient Location in Princeville”

Reviewed 29 Jan 2014

I recently had some friends one in to visit me and found the Ota House through Napali Properties. That was a lucky break. The house is a great value, quiet and clean. My friends loved it and commented to me how nice and professional the folks at the management company, Napali Properties, were so welcoming and helpful. It really helps to have someone on this end who has the knowledge and resources to provide the best in service and a large selection of great options. I would add one caveat though. It is time to install wireless internet in the home. Everyone needs it. My friends hitched on a close network but that wasn't like having internet in the house. Other than that it was perfect for my friends and a great value. Thank you Barbara and Jane for making it so easy.

I have stayed in this home and this area for several years. Even though this home is older, it is comfortable and has all of the amenities that are needed to make our time in Kauai perfect!

“Great value for a house in Princeville”

Reviewed 25 Jan 2013

We just returned from renting this home in Princeville for three weeks. For $100 a night it is the best value for a spacious home in a beautiful neighborhood. On Christmas morning the neighbor across the street brought us a plate of homemade cookies. When the coffee pot stopped working Na Pali Properties dropped off a new one the next day. Several times I walked to Princeville Center, a mile away, using the paved path that runs alongside the Makai Golf Course. I have recommended this rental to my family and friends, and can't wait until our next trip.

“not impressed!”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2012

Firstly, we arrived at our 'jungle cottage' just outside of Hanalei, at 6 o'clock at night, having stopped for groceries and supplies for our week stay, only to find it was double booked. Someone was already settled in there. We had even reconfirmed the week before and were told it was good to go. Very disappointing. Beyond disappointing, actually! A property manager did find us a place to stay for the night, but it was not at all what we wanted- it was a boring, sterile home with no personality in conservative Princeville. It certainly was not our style- no uniqueness or Hawaiian flavour. The carpets were so scotch-guarded that our feet squeaked when we walked. Not even a table to sit out in the back yard. No wi-fi and no hot water for a shower. I'm rather disgusted that we had to pay for it at all- it wasn't our fault for double booking. Our only reason for being there was that there was no other place available last minute, being double booked and all. (we actually booked about 3 months ago, paid and reconfirmed, so this is totally unacceptable!) Didn't like the location- no creek, not near beach, a groomed backyard, close to neighbours. We much prefer rustic, remote locations. We certainly will not stay in Princeville again, nor will we deal with NaPali Properties.

Response from the manager Aloha, I can certainly understand your disappointment. This is a situation that got out of our control with a property owner that was both selfish and unstable. Disregarded our contract and we all feel badly about disappointing you. Our Broker did her best to accommodate you at the eleventh hour.We have been in business for many years and rarely encounter such selfish homeowner behavior but there is little recourse when we do. We will talk further to see if there is anything we can do to compensate you for this most unfortunate incident. By the way. the owner has discontinued her rentals and we can both imagine and can only speculate as to why. She probably received some bad reviews from mistreating other guests we were not aware of. I will make sure we do something for you. I can't take away the disappointment but I can be fair to you in a businesslike manner. We have a great reputation and will do everything possible to see it is not tarnished and this does not happen again. Very sorry and please accept our apology. Kauai has some unpredictable aspects and people are one of them.

“everything we could have hoped for in a rental”

We really liked that the house had appliances in the kitchen, lawn chairs, beach towels and plenty of extra towels in the house

“We would rent the Ota House again”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2011

My mom and I rented the Ota House for two weeks beginning the last week of September 2011. It is in a very quiet, upscale neighborhood within walking distance of Hanalei Bay Resort and the St. Regis Princeville Hotel. One of the neighbors told me that there is a path that begins at the end of the street that leads to the beach at the Princeville Hotel, but I did not try it. The house itself was very comfortable and well equipped. The master bedroom is locked off, and the two bedrooms shown in the pictures share a jack-and-jill bathroom. Our favorite part of the house was the backyard. We sat out there every afternoon and I took pictures of geckos and birds. We slept with our bedroom windows open and the only sounds we heard were birds and roosters the first two nights. When the sky is clear of clouds the stars are magnificent! I live in San Francisco where it is impossible to see stars because of the lights, but there are no street lights in the neighborhood and we could see the Milky Way. The house had good water pressure and very hot water at the kitchen sink. The garage was big enough to hold two cars comfortably, and the laundry room is off the garage with a skylight. Previous reviews have mentioned the state of the carpet, and they were right. It could use a light cleaning, and it does feel a bit strange walking barefoot on it - kind of like it is damp. With the high humidity we were not surprised. This was the sixth time we rented a home from Na Pali Properties so we stopped in their office in Hanalei to say aloha. Jane and Barbara were very friendly and shared lots of information about the local area with us. My mom went in a couple more times - we love hanging out in Hanalei - and dropped off a bottle of wine for the ladies. We will definitely use Na Pali Properties again, and will rent the Ota House again as well. Mahalo, Jeri Jenkins

“A vacation with the privacy and comfort of home!”

Reviewed 9 Mar 2011

When we arrived, the house was clean, keys were waiting and we didn't have to wait for our vacation to start! We liked the house a lotand loved being on vacation with all of the basics of home. Since we were traveling with our baby and toddler, the two bedrooms with adjoining bathroom were ideal. The garage was clean, the washer and dryer worked really well and the backyard is beautiful! Our little toddler had a blast playing ball with Grandma in the backyard almost every night we were there while our baby perfected his sitting up skills in the soft grass. The barbeque on the patio was a fantastic addition and helped us enjoy the backyard as a family. The big beautiful windows in the living room allowed so much light in and framed the most beautiful sky. We loved being able put the boys in the stroller and walking down to the beach just 10 minutes from the house. Plus, being just 15 minutes from Hanalei and family gave us the reprieve we needed but the proximity for any last minute plan changes. Our favorite thing about this house was the size and the full kitchen for the cost and of course, the backyard for our little boy! There were really only two things about the house that we disliked. The texture of the carpets almost seemed sticky, as though they had just been cleaned one too many times or had too much soap in them. The other was the beds.. they are really old feeling and noisy! Everytime my toddler would roll in his bed in the other room, we could hear the bed squeak. Our bed too, every time we climbed in bed, or woke up to feed the baby, it sounded as though it might fall apart under us! All in all, we had an amazing vacation and not having to worry about staying in some overpriced hotel was wonderful!

“Ota House review”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2009

We have stayed at the Ota house before and have always loved the location and the house, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it was not as clean as it has been in the past. The location is perfect, easy drive to the beaches and hiking that we did, easy drive to the sunsets. The house is fully stocked with all of the cooking supplies.
