“At Home in Kauai”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2014

We loved this house, it truly felt like we were locals in Hawaii for the week. It is pushed back along a dirt road in Haena, not even a block away from the beach (through a little row of hedges). This house is so peaceful, it felt like it was in the country a bit, we loved the drive home from Hanalei, crossing a few one lane bridges added to the experience. The water isn't really swimable, though there is a very shallow are that children could splash around in. It was beautiful there though, very quiet on the beach, we were often the only ones there. Nice to start your morning with a cup of coffee and walk/sit on the sand for a bit. The one thing that did make it hard to sleep though, was the lack of a complete set of blinds in the master bedroom. About 50% of them had fallen off. I have mentioned this to the property manager and she said that they would take care of it. Otherwise, you might need to hang a spare sheet from the curtain rod. :)

Response from the manager Aloha to our guests-Mahalo for the nice review of this special house in a beautiful area- The house has just been sold and will be undergoing a renovation so it will be even more beautiful the next time that you come back for a visit- Na Pali Properties Management

“Cozy and Steps From the Beach...”

We love staying at Hale Hoku because of its location. This was our third stay at the house and it feels like home to us. It's across the street from the beach, has a wonderful wraparound lanai, is in a quiet neighborhood, has a lovely yard, and has almost all of the amenities one could want in a rental house. Na Pali Properties is great to deal with -- very responsive.

“A slice of paradise”

We love staying at Hale Hoku. We felt right at home the minute we walked through the door. The wrap around Lanai is perfection. You can hear the ocean and the birds and the breeze. The view from the bedroom of Bali Hai is gorgeous and you can see stars all the way to the horizon. The very private beach is a 10 second walk from the house. The location is secluded and far from the hustle and bustle of Hanalei but close enough to get there in 10 minutes or so. It is also just a few minutes from the incomparable Napali Coast trail and Ke'e beach. It isn't fancy but it is lovely and stocked with everything you need (except an iron). Only thing you might want to bring is ear plugs. The wild roosters get you up early! We can't stop thinking about how soon we can come back!

“Hale Hoku is wonderful!”

This was the second time we have stayed at Hale Hoku. You are just across the "street" from the beach (which most of the time you have entirely to yourself!). The neighborhood is quiet yet friendly. You can walk to Hanalei Colony, drive or walk (on beach or road) to Tunnels Beach (our favorite). And it is a short yet beautiful drive into Hanalei. The best feature of Hale Hoku, though is the huge lanai. You can see and hear the waves crashing on the beach in front of you, then look behind you for a breath-taking view of the mountains. I'm sure we'll be back soon!

“Comfortable, affordable, and you can't beat the location for the”

We've stayed at Hale Hoku twice, in 2011 and 2013. When we stayed 2 years ago, I wrote a review listing some things that really needed to be improved. We were very happy this year to see that Na Pali Properties had addressed every single issue -- new knives, coolers, grill, citrus juicer, serving plates, etc. It even looked like the spider webs on the lanai were cleared before we got there! We like to cook when we're in Kauai and this house has everything one could want to make a feast. This is a comfortable house to stay in, with its fans, big sliding doors/windows, and large lanai. It has a beautiful lawn with lovely flowers and trees and it's only a few steps away from the beach. It's not a 'luxury' vacation rental (more Hawaiian-themed artwork on the walls would be a nice touch) but that's not what we're looking for. Na Pali Properties is easy to deal with -- when we found there were no grilling utensils, they let us buy some and will reimburse us when they return our deposit. I do wonder, though, why it takes them more time than other rental agents to return deposits. Not a big deal, but they could be quicker. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Hale Hoku. Loved discovering the hidden Meyer lemon tree this year.

Response from the manager Aloha to our guests-we are pleased that you noticed our efforts and enjoyed your return to this great property. We have been reviewing our Security Deposit return policy and will be making changes in the near future- We look forward to your next trip :)

“perfect for 4”

great location on the north shore. the beach is steps away, and while it's not swimmable, if you turn left and walk about 5-10 minutes, the water opens up. tunnels is our favorite beach spot and it's only a 5-minute drive from the house. you might need to rent snorkeling gear though, the house only had one set of fins.

“Quiet, Comfortable Retreat”

Reviewed 8 Dec 2012

The home was excellent - clean and well appointed. We did a lot of cooking at home so very much enjoyed the BBQ, the well stocked kitchen (utensils, appliances, pots, pans, etc.). We were very thankful for all the fans (both ceiling and floor) since it could get hot in the afternoon. The house was only 5 miles from town - however, it took about 15 minutes to get to town (not a bad thing just something to be aware of). We couldn't figure out some of the light switches - either they weren't attached to something or didn't work. I also could not find a smoke detector which was a small concern. Na Pali Properties was very helpful and made it very easy to check in and check out. Overall a great experience.

“Heavenly Hale Hoku”

Reviewed 27 Nov 2012

This was our first visit to Kauai and Hale Hoku was our first "home" there. The house was beautiful - even more impressive than the pictures. The house is large and very convenient, stocked with everything we needed. We had been provided with instructions for check-in, directions to the house and the property management company, and all was simple and convenient. The Napali Properties Management employees were very friendly and helpful, quick to respond to any requests we had, answering questions and just overall very pleasant to deal with. The house is in a very peaceful setting, surrounded by tropical plants, flowers, and birds. The view from the house is beautiful, the large lanai great to sit and relax on, and it was a very short, easy walk to the Beach. (You can hear the surf and could see the ocean if it weren't for all the tropical plants in the way!!! :-). We stayed 8 days/nights, hated to have to leave, and would love to be able to stay here again. That North Shore area is just a very pleasant, relaxed, beautiful place. At the end of our month-long 2-island trip, our very favorite place was Hanalei and Hale Hoku!!!

Response from the manager Aloha-Thank you for your review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and Hale Hoku-The property is a special spot and difficult to describe to those who haven't experienced it- We feel fortunate to be able to share it with our visitors from around the world-and look forward to welcoming you back in the future-

House being on stilts gave us the feeling of being in treehouse among the many cardinals who visit daily. House fully furnished with appliances and kitchen gadgets one does not usually get in a "Time Share" rental. Clean with updated applicances. Bed comfortable. Books to read and floats and snorkle equipment. Great to have WiFi too. Could not fine the iron! Found the board but not the iron.
