“Makanui 511 is poky, grotty, and in dire need of renovation and”
A lovely area and great beaches but be very careful to insist on an updated unit when you book. Having prepaid over $5m Cdn for 28 nights, we were shocked by the condition of the unit we were assigned. When we asked for a decent unit, we were told another unit would be available in a week but we would have to pay $125 cleaning fee which, considering I felt ripped off to start with, was outrageous. On the upside, we met great neighbours, the pool was right outside our door and, as with all PKa units, the walks to the beaches are lovely.
Response from the manager Aloha Cathy, We're glad you enjoyed Poipu with its lovely beaches. We're sorry that this particular unit was not to your satisfaction. Our Quality Assurance Manager, Marlene works with our owners to update their properties. I have informed her of your concerns and she will be working with the owners. In the future, when making a reservation, please feel free to contact our Office Manager, Malia, who can personally assist you in selecting a unit that will be more to your liking. We appreciate your comments and hope to see you again in the future. Sincerely, Liz Parisi email@example.com
Nice place to stay. I was given this condo for a work trip and had my wife and 2 yr old daughter come visit and was very happy. Very clean and bug free. Ceiling fans in every room. Nice size kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms were plenty big. Some negatives: I didn't have a reserved parking spot so parking gets crowded at night once everyone is home. Sometimes you have to park down around the corner. Also, this unit is on the corner right off the parking lot, so not much of a view, and sometimes some outside noise to deal with from people loading/unloading or hanging out. Also it's a first floor condo which is nice for loading/unloading and not having to carry things upstairs, but I felt uncomfortable leaving windows and sliding glass doors open all night. But honestly, it's Poipu in Kauai. The condo was great. The full kitchen and washer/dryer were great for cooking and storing food and keeping up with laundry. There's a walking path right down to the beach, beautiful sunrise and sunsets. Access to two different pools with lounge chairs and grill access. Would definitely recommend Poipu Kai condos to anyone visiting Kauai.
Response from the manager Aloha George, We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay at Poipu Kai Condos, and that you would recommend our resort to others Thank you! Indeed, it can be noisy at times when you are located in a bottom floor unit near the parking lot. I also understand your hesitancy to keep a slider open at night. That's a common sense precaution even on Kauai where crime is minimal compared to more urban areas. We do have a great variety of condos that are part of our resort family, many of which are second and third floor units and others less close to the parking lot. It would be our pleasure to assist you in selecting a suitable condo for your next stay in beautiful Kauai. Just contact, Malia, our Office Manager, and she will offer you any needed help in making your reservation. Sincerely, Liz Parisi firstname.lastname@example.org
“Not the best”
Dark unit on busy corner overlooking parking lot. We were told that it was an "Upgrade" from a one bedroom garden view room. We did not need two bedrooms. After two days, a much brighter and more cheerful unit came available.
“Beautiful grounds, conveniant location, great staff, but unit ne”
We stayed in unit 510 in the Regency section of the complex. We appreciated the warm greeting and uncomplicated check-in process. When we got to the unit, we were immediately dismayed to find the the 'Deluxe Garden View' was actually looking out onto the parking lot, not a garden. When we entered the unit we were met by the smell of animal urine. It was pretty strong. We found that there were little deodorant discs around the carpeted areas of the unit, but the smell was still pretty strong. We opened all the doors and aired it out. It helped. The unit was very spacious and otherwise seemed very clean. We appreciated all the space. One other problem: later that night when we turned on the tv, we found it was broken. The next morning we got a call from the front deck to ask how everything was. We told them about the t.v. and the smell. Someone came out right away with a replacement t.v. It was tiny, but it was explained that they weren't able to buy a proper replacement without the permission of the units owners. That made sense. Besides, we weren't there to watch t.v.! The staff also sent a cleaning woman by who put some more deodorant discs down. It didn't really help, but it was nice that they responded so quickly. Other than that, the place was great; well-maintained grounds, clean pool areas, very conveniant location. Several beaches were within walking distance and it was a great place for us to have our kids. Many restaurants and shops were near-by (a long walk or a very short car ride). All in all, we had a good experience and would stay at Suite Paradise again, just not in that particular unit.
While the unit was spacious and had a nice layout, it felt dated. There was a musty odor to the place, lighting in the rooms was poor, bathroom showers and guest bathroom fixtures were old, stereo and tv remote non-functional and deck flooring was broken in several places. It was very disappointing.
Response from the manager Upon reading this review, we inspected the condo. There is a small area on the living room lanai where the painted on flooring was missing. I will report this to the General Manager for the Homeowner Association. We added lighting and discovered tht the bathroom fixtures were fine. We added battries to the remote. We wish the guest would have called maintenance while they were here to fix many of their concerns.
