Description

Rookyard Cottage is a newly built, eco-friendly, single storey cottage. It has a timber frame with recycled newspaper insulation, rainwater harvesting and solar heated water. Guests may use the owners’ private indoor heated swimming pool. It is called Rookyard Cottage because of the many rooks that are frequent visitors to the grounds of Valley Farm.

The cottage has two bedrooms, a double and a twin each with an en-suite bathroom. One bathroom is equipped for use by disabled guests with a large walk-in shower and grab rails . The sitting/dining room has a vaulted timber ceiling and a modern, well equipped, kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. A log burning stove is backed up by full oil fired central heating. There is a TV with DVD and Freesat box together with Wifi and a radio/CD player. It is furnished and decorated to a high standard in a modern style. There is easy, level access for wheelchair users.

The cottage is set in the grounds of Valley Farm. Guests have a south facing terrace with table, chairs and a barbeque and there is an acre field suitable for ball games, kite flying and fun, far away from the road. A country footpath leads across the fields to the small market town of Halesworth. The owners’ private indoor heated swimming pool is available to guests by individual arrangement at a small extra charge. There is parking for two cars.

“Lovely peaceful place”

We stayed for a week with our two children and loved the eco barn and the quiet setting. We had days out to Southwold, Great Yarmouth and a farm park. Bewilderwood looked excellent but was sold out. The barns are very well equipped and clean. The barn felt spacious thanks to the vaulted ceiling and there was a big lawn to run around on. There are several supermarkets locally and an amazing Chinese takeaway in Halesworth (Golden House). We also had fresh seafood from the harbour in Southwold and lots of baked yummy things from the 10 million bakeries! Magpies was very good. The absolute best feature though is the pool which you can book out for an hour. Our kids loved it and our 5 year old actually learnt to swim this week without arm bands!
