“Rundown Condo in the most beautiful location”

Reviewed 20 Dec 2014

This review is of our experience at the condo from Dec. 12-Dec. 20/2014. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by Kathy (one of the owners). She gave us a tour of the condo and the first thing you notice is the extremely musty odour in the basement, with very worn (dirty and stained) carpet. According to the Environmental Protection Agency - USA, wed or damp areas must be dried within 24-48 hours to avoid mold growth. Considering this basement has had the presence of moisture for a unknown amount of time, mold is almost certainly growing in the carpet and walls. Mold can be a serious health concern if the spores are released into the air. The second thing you notice on the tour is the fact that the common area has quiet hours from 9pm until 8am (never mentioned in the ads). However, apparently, these rules do NOT apply to the owners. Three days in a row, after returning from the beach before the sun rise, the male owner was using the hot tub well before quiet hours had expired (before 7am). The upstairs of the condo itself is completely tiled, which becomes dangerously slippery when wet. This is a beach condo, with open style showers, the tile is wet continuously. A better choice would have been to use more appropriate tile (outdoor tile and shower tile are suited for being wet without causing a hazard). If you have small children or older relatives, this is something to consider. We two major incidents before having to be extremely cautious, leaving towels on the floor in high risk areas (outside the shower, just in side the sliding door). The appliances are new and working in good order, the beds and pillows are quite comfortable. Above this condo is another condo and when someone upstairs walks around it sounds like thunder. At night time with the windows open you can hear the people (in this case, it is the owners) in the upstairs condo word for word. If you are a light sleeper or your children are, you must close the windows and use the A/C to drown out the noise. When we approached Kathy (the owner) about the noise, her exact response was, "Oh yeah, that's me, I'm heavy footed" apology or promise to try to do better to not wake the entire lower condo with her thunder feet. The owner also informed us that she was renting the upper condo to guests that night, who were arrived after midnight and that the noise we would be hearing was them. We told her that we have a 10 month old baby and to re-schedule the new renters to a more appropriate time of day. She did not and at 12:30am, she toured the group THROUGH the quiet common area, waking everyone (including the baby). These people appear to be only concerned with making money. The owners both were very sick and with the windows open, you could hear them choking on their own fluids (we had to close the windows and use the A/C to drown out the noise). This sickness did not stop them from using the hot tub and two of our party members also became sick a few days into the trip. The pool pictures do not show the actual pool conditions. The pool was never cleaned by the staff. The one time we used the pool, we had to clean it ourselves first before hand. Removing all the dead bugs, frogs and plants (of course outdoor pools will collect these things, however, hotels clean the surface once a day). The condo has five A/C units throughout, which supply tons of refrigeration power. Even on the hottest day, you could maintain any temperature desired. The location is magnificent. The pictures do not do it justice. The sunsets are absolutely astonishing and the beautiful beach is steps away. The grass area outside the gate is public and used frequently by dog lovers, who were very good at cleaning up after their animals. All in all, for the price, you can stay at one of the local hotels to avoid these problems.

“A Great Location for Our Family's Vacation”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2013

Hale Ili Ili was a great spot for our family's vacation. The location was perfect for shops, eating, and of course the beach and ocean! Also, the grassy area was a convenient place for the toddler to play right before a fantastic Maui sunset - which can't be beat and it happens right outside the door. We were excited to arrive, pleased that it exceeded what was promised, quickly made it our home, and wished we didn't have to leave. We hope to be back again someday soon.

“Superb Location”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2013

We looked at a lot of properties before choosing this one - thankfully it was the right choice. The location is almost perfect for whatever activities you're interested in, and the condo itself is very well appointed and comfortable. We have already booked for 2014.

“Wish we could have stayed longer.”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2013

We brought our daughter and her husband with us and we were very comfortable. We were only able to stay 4 nights and wish it could have been much longer. This is an excellent location because you really are right on the ocean. It was everything we had hoped for and more. Walks on the beach every morning were good exercise, yet relaxing. The condo had a great kitchen which was well supplied utensil-wise, etc. and we did cook onsite everyday. The cinnamon roll place down the road was an added plus. I think my favorite location in the condo was the lanai where we ate all our meals and could watch the whales and waves all day long if we wanted. We rented boogie boards and just walked down a few steps to the beach to enjoy the ocean and have some fun. There was a beautiful pool available for the condominium complex and also a hot tub. We rarely saw any of the residents using them, so we could use them whenever we wanted. The gas grill by the pool does need to be cleaned and the starter replaced. Otherwise, we would highly recommend this condo as a perfect place to enjoy a Maui vacation.

“Hale Ili Ili”

Excellent location fronting the ocean and steps from the beach. We used the three bedroom Unit A which worked well for ourselves and two daughters and their husbands. The kitchen was well equiped. Dinners were eaten on the lanai while watching spectacular sunsets. Would have no reservations going back or recommending the unit to others.

“November 2012”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2012

Great location and a very nice place(hidden gem). Very little I would add. I would recommend a few things to the property manager/owner. one is add some wash clothes to the towel supply as there were none to use. Two is add some more beach accessories for use, like boogie boards, floaties etc... for guest use. There were plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas and snorkle equipment, by the way. Lastly, it was difficult to reach the property manager after we checked in. She was there to check us in and was very nice when we arrived.
