“Beautiful house but poorly maintained”

Reviewed 25 Feb 2013

This is a beautiful home with great views and much space. It is only 4 years old but has not been taken care of and is not in the best of condition. I believe previous guests have abused the home and owners have not maintained it very well. For a home that is this valuable and large, I would have expected more. The linens were worn in some rooms and no hand towels were available. The biggest problem was that the electricity went out on two nights and the generator did not kick in. There was a message on the generator to call Alex but no phone number. We finally got it working. On the last night, the power went out and the generator did not work again and the power did not come on all night. We were in the middle of a catered dinner party when the lights went out. We could not secure the place and had to operate in the dark. I fell and sustained a leg injury. This was a very dangerous situation as many of the sliding glass doors would not lock and the house was wide open. We closed the doors but then we were very hot and could not sleep. We have asked for a partial refund because of the generator problem but have not heard back from the owner. This should have been a beautiful experience in a beautiful home; however, the electricity problems and the poor condition of some of the furniture and linens did not leave a good impression. The owner needs to do better or lower the rent.

“beautiful but bad roads and far from turistic area”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2012

Overall it went well- The house is gorgeous but the location is of difficult access. It might work just fine for people that just want to stay in the house-otherwise would not recommend- Orient beach and Dawn beach are close which it is a plus- Our maid was very helpful but we would have liked some more orientation in terms of where to go for supermarket, shopping and dinning-considering the location of the house- Also it would have been nice to know ahead of time that gas stations only take cash- We loved the food in Grand Case- overall good-

“Eden Rock May 2012”

Reviewed 29 May 2012

The view from Eden Rock is spectacular, however we were surprised at how remote the property was and how difficult it was to travel the surrounding roads. We arrived at the property at about 9:30pm after traveling all day and wanted to find something to eat. We ended up making our way to the Westin Resort not knowing if we would find any food and were lucky enough to arrive just before the kitchen closed. While the villa is nicely laid out, the upholstery both inside and out requires a good cleaning and some should be replaced. The property management company did a good job replacing the coffee maker when we discovered it was not working on the second day. Here are some things that would have made our trip more enjoyable: Being told that an SUV or 4 wheel drive vehicle would be advised for the local hills and roads; being provided a map with the locations of grocery stores and restaurants; We would also have been very happy if we had been able to request that some food (milk, eggs, butter, bread, coffee, etc) be stocked in the house (at our expense of course) so that we had something to eat for breakfast the day after our arrival. Obviously these things were issues because this was our first trip to St. Maarten, we arrived during the hours of darkness and had no real idea of where anything was. It might have been less of a problem if we had been familiar with the island.

“Young Party”

Reviewed 2 Apr 2012

We love the property and have reserved again for 2013. Suggested improvements: bedroom pillows need extra & better quality; replace gas grill & provide cooking utensils; some bathroom drains were backing up. Overall great place to vacation.

“Lovely view”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2012

Great view; great swimming pool; nice set up; bedding and towels a little run down; location a bit remote and road to Grand Case basically a diry road for 10 mins. No information sheet on arrival and even the one we got was not tailored to this home-- didn't even tell us there was a beach down the road. And the fridge had awful fish smell on arrival that we had to resolve on our own. Also lots of Mosquitos -- bring spray and/or mosquito nets. Overall we had a great vacation!
