“Awesome Family Time in akumal”

Reviewed 6 May 2014

This is a late review as we traveled the last week of November 2013. We stayed at Casa Bella on Yal Ku Lagoon We are a family of 6 plus 4 extra adults. We love the Riviera Maya and especially akumal. We have rented properties from akumal Direct Reservations in the past and I can't say enough about this company and Marcia Kirby. They will answer any questions you might have and give you traveling tips and ideas for excursions in the area We arranged a private van pick up at a hotel we staying at in Cancun with a company she recommended. Our driver was prompt , courteous and helpful He stopped at the Sams Club in Playa so we could stock up on food and drink! We range in ages from 75 - 19 yrs Casa Bella was a wonderful choice for our family I was worried because there is no direct beach access You can walk down a short walkway and get in the water very safely and snorkel your heart out! We spent hours in the lagoon and did I mention how great the snorkeling was? We saw so many varieties of fish too numerous to mention. Just Beautiful! The view from the upstairs main bedroom was to die for. we were there during a full moon and I was in awe of the lagoon's beauty in the moonlight We utilized the casita and all of the bedrooms. There were no complaints with the beds they were fine for all of us. The house has Satellite Tv that' has a variety of channels English and Spanish. We never felt far from the beach or town as we had rented a golf cart and used another golf cart that was provided by the villa We loved riding the carts into akumal Beach to spend some time sunning and swimming in the calm waters. We loved, loved the rooftop area. Every night was spent up on the roof top looking at the stars and moon We rented a car for a day and visited the ruins in Tulum. The kids loved the adventure park nearby with the Cenotes and Zip line I would highly recommend Casa Bella for large group travel Go to Buena Vida and the restaurant across the street.

“Relaxing and beautiful”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2013

The house is situated on an absolutely wonderful piece of land with beautiful views. The house is at the end of the island and is a 10 minute gold cart ride to town. We liked that it was off the beaten path, although the whole village is pretty quite. The house furnishings are comfortable. Even the casitas was cute, but the beds were very firm. Glad we didn't have to sleep on those. The master bedroom had a nice little sitting room off the bedroom with an additional bed. Perfect for a little child wanting to sleep close to mom and dad. Bathrooms were spacious and nice. The only surprise was that there is only a partial septic tank, so no flushing toilet paper. I hear that is not uncommon in Mexico, but I didn't know. All paper is thrown into the trashcan and emptied by the maid the next day. Not a big deal to us, but just wish we had been told what to expect. The chairs outside were numerous and comfortable. Loved that there were so many places to sit and enjoy the sun -- the pool, 2 different patios and a roof with comfortable shaded furnishings. Ac is only available in the bedrooms, which did a fine job. Lovered windows and screen doors kept us comfortable during the day. I can't imagine what it would feel like in July and august though. We all brought snorkeling gear and snorkeled right off the rocks outside the house. The water was a bit rough for several days. Our younger kids had trouble snorkeling and I wouldn't even attmept it without a life jacket. We did go to the Bay via golf cart, which was not as rough and saw turtles while snorkeling! Also, loved that there was a restaurant right on the beach. The staff that cared for the home were so sweet and delightful to be around. The meal cooked by the staff was the best we had the entire week. The manager called right away and had our golf cart delivered when we notified him that the cart was not there when we arrived. Our transportation was on time, clean and very efficient.

Response from the manager Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your stay at Casa Bella. We apprecaite you saying nice things about the property and the staff. They are wonderful and we are very proud of them. At any time guests can be made more comfortable regarding bedding guests simply need to bring to the manager's attention and everything will be done to ensure a more comfortable stay. Thank you for choosing Casa Bella for your vacation. We hope to see you again in the future!

“Akumal is everything I expected”

Reviewed 31 Mar 2013

Casa Bella is tired and showing her age. Things were surface clean only. But for the amount of time we actually spent in the villa it was okay. The handle was missing from the oven, and the ants were a problem in one main floor bedroom like noted in other reviews. We were a group of 11 with 3 young teens. The kids loved the place. We all agreed that being closer to akumal beach would have been preferred for next time. It was very windy during our stay which made accessing the lagoon from our villa entrance a bit hairy. The bikes are hardly road worthy- old and rickety. The chain fell off of one and the gears continuously changed on their own while riding. The golf cart was not at the villa upon our arrival but staff looked after that immediately once they were notified. Overall, Casa Bella served its purpose for us. I would definitely return to the area. We saw turtles each time we snorkled at akumal Bay- the highlight of our trip.

Great location, excellent daily cleaning service & meals cooked upon request by ana. The experience was excellent for all five couples. Bedroom on ground floor with seperate entrance had no screen door.

“Great Meican get-a-way - fantastic place!”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2010

This was my first, but certainly not my last VRBO vacation rental. I made the reservations with trepidation: What is the house really like? is this where I wish to stay? what is renting a car in Mexico like? and all those questions most would have. The house is exactly as described - 30 yards from the water with a cement path to the waters edge. The entry into the lagoon here can be a little tricky if the water is rough, but the reef at the opening helps protect the area. Do make sure to take advantage of the free entrance into the park - which is just across the street - the lagoon is beautiful and you can snorkel the entire area. We saw numerous small, medium and large fish, sea turtles and sting rays. Lots of coral. On calmer days, you can snorkel out to the deep reefs with ease. Half moon bay is a beautiful beach, but the entry into the water is difficult as coral comes right to the beach. Akumal bay is the best! Tons of sea turtles, large fish, and all the reef life one would imagine. The house is a two story home, with a casita. The casita has two large bedrooms and its own bath and kitchen. The main home has three large bedrooms, as well as one small single bedroom. My only complaint is that with a house full of guests, the kitchen is a little small. But it worked! Anna the house keeper and Ivan the grounds keeper did a good job of trying to keep up with our mess. (suggested tip was $1-2US$/per person/day for housekeeper and half that for the grounds keeper) Anna will wash clothing if asked, a small fee of 50 pesos a load should cover costs. Anna nor Ivan speak any English, the manager can interpret via phone if needed. Town and the restaurants are a short drive - all the restaurants were good - the pasta bar on Sunday night was fantastic. Avoid groceries in Akumal, fruit stand and corner stores in the real town are much cheaper, and the pizza place there had great pizza! Big shopping was done in Playa delCarmen - much cheaper. I will visit again!

“Casa Bella”

Casa Bella is a lovely property with a great location on Yalku Lagoon. The villa needs some necessary repairs to the inside. We were 2 families of 8 people total & there was plenty of room for all of us. The golf cart & pool were a definate plus. The road to the villa needs dire repair. We will retunr next year to a different property through Akumal Direct. Thank you for the ease in making our reservation for us.

The air conditioning in the bedrooms only wasn't a big problem, except in one lower room it didn't work as well as other rooms. We found scorpions on 3 occasions, beware of placing items on the floor. Otherwise it was a truly wonderful stay, beautiful location and authentic experience.

“A relaxing stay at Casa Bella”

Our stay at Casa Bella was wonderful. The place was clean and comfortable. Ana and Ivan were great. The snorkeling in front of the place was awesome. We saw turtles, rays and giant parrot fish. The views are amazing.

“The perfect place for our family get together”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2009

We booked Casa Bella for our family to celebrate our 50th Wedding anniversary. The house was very comfortable for eight adults and five children. The house was well equipped and had wireless internet set up conveniently in a room beside the master bedroom. Our kids and grandkids came from Canada and Washington State so everyone enjoyed the hot weather and swimming in the was very easy to go snorkelling in front of the house or at several nearby beaches. Mayan ruins are worth a visit. There are several pleasant restaurants within easy walking distance. Ana and Ivan were very efficient helpers. Ana cooked an excellent meal for all thirteen of us. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at Casa Bella.
