We arrived in Lagos at 8:30 p.m. with one baby and a two years old child (one hour later than expected). I tried to contact the owner several times to inform about the delay but it was imposible (the first contact number was wrong; nobody pick up the phone on the second one). When we arrived in the appartement there was nobody inside. Nobody call me back. I though it was a victim of an internet trap. I leaved my family in a restaurant and I tryed to find another place to sleep. But it was low season and the hotels in the citty center were full or close. I was in a kind of panic modus, when the owner finally called me back at 10:30 p.m. At 11:00 p.m. I got the keys of the appartement. The first impresion was: musty odour, muggy and cold (13°C outside = 13°C inside). There was only one small electric radiator for all the flat. It took three days to warm up the leaving room to 20°C and to get the musty odour away. Terrible.
Response from the manager Dear Miguel, First of all thank you very much for letting us a review, as reviews are always positive and constructive. It was really an unfortunate to know about how your check-in was so complicated. I have contacted the check-in responsible which confirmed that there was a lack of communication. It is really important that guests call the check-in responsible previously to their arrival (at least 1 hour in advance). What she told me was they as she haven't received any call around your expected arrival time she thought you weren't coming and from then on its true that she wasn't checking the phone. Of course she should anyway be paying attention as not always guest have the chance to call before, but is definitely really important a call much in advance or guest may fail there check-in. Nonetheless we already made her an advise for future guests in order such misunderstandings and confusions don't happen again. I would like you to let you know that due to your useful remarks we are now going down to Lagos during the month of March to make amendments both to the check-in both to the ways the house is deliver to the guests by the responsible for the check-ins. We are consciousness that the main responsible are we and so we are taking this month to check the entire apartment and service. We would also like to apologise then for the mouldy smell you found in the house, February was the most rainy month ever in Portugal from the past 35 years and all houses were affected. The house was left open to fresh it up before but it seems it wasn't enough. This is our first year with winter rentals and that is why we opted for making the week rental under such a reduced price, considering it is a 3 bedroom house for 6 persons. So we opted for making such low price on the week rentals. But it seems we have much to learn, specially in regard the winter rental and so we will instead equip the house better, even if it implies raising up slighter the weekly rental. Once again our sincere apologies for the inconvenient on your arrival, which we much expect were diffused along the rest of your weekly stay and that you could much enjoy all the city of Lagos as to offer. Thank you, Best regards Marisa Pott
