“A visionary retreat for writers!”

Reviewed 16 Mar 2014

Thorough said, "it is not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." This little cottage helped me remember that. A short stay here helped me wash off the muck of living long enough to see what was right in front of me. I'd been looking for a quiet place in the woods to work on my manuscript. It took me years to find this gem. It was important that I find a place which was inspiring, quiet, and inviting. This place is all that and more. I didn't even know where to look - New Hampshire? Montana? Northern California? No. It was right here in the Puget Sound. The adventure here from Seattle was entertaining and relaxing, for the same reasons I loved being here: it's so beautiful! I'd wake up in the morning, slip into my sandals and robe, and sit on the porch awestruck. You'd anticipate growing tired of this view-that looking out at the collage of islands in front of you would grow dull. But it doesn't. I just wrote more and more. In my short weekend there, I saw bald eagles, grouse, scrub jays and more. I was often torn about whether to stay inside or go out. I loved the living area, and found myself nestled into all kinds of cushions to rearrange ideas in my mind, my book, and my body. There serenity is inviting, but at one point, I blasted some music for my own private dance party. I won't tell you who - I'm sure you'll tease. Each night as the sun began to set, I would crawl into the hot tub out back, and watch the sun go down. The world around me melted and I became it. The words just slipped onto the page. If you have the time, be sure to visit this magical spot.
