“Casa Menrique's works well based on location and amenities. We d”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2012

Once we got settled, we enjoyed the stay a lot. We thought the house was closer to Progreso but we were one block from Chicxulub pier. This turned out to be fine because Chicxulub has most things you need except a large grocery store. However, don't plan on spending much time on the beach at Casa Menrique's because it is crowded with fishing boats and the water with fishing nets - so no swimming either. There are several public access roads to the beach and one of these is right next to Casa Menrique's. While the fisherman using it are friendly, there is a fair amount of traffic and noise alongside the house at odd hours of the day and night. The house itself is well set up for groups, with lots of indoor and outdoor spaces to congregate, and private baths for each bedroom. The plumbing is hit or miss (one toilet never did flush properly)but my call was answered the same day by a plumber. No screens and security concerns mean you can't leave windows open at night and the aC units in each bedroom are not entirely adequate if it gets really hot. In a heavy rain, all the doors leak underneath as they are not sealed properly. But, putting all that aside, there is a lot to like. The house is the only one I saw with a lovely outdoor passage front to back allowing good airflow and a place to sit no matter the weather. The kitchen is large and adequate. The house is well-lit and comfortable. We had all the amenities we needed. The caretakers are nice but do not speak any English. In December, the area was fairly deserted, which we liked.
