“A 10-star place”

Reviewed 4 Feb 2015

We loved this. Leslie, the owner, should work for all the major hotel chains. She is an expert in providing perfect accommodations. Wish I could give this 10 stars. What a great place! My wife and I found the accommodations to be absolutely perfect. We particularly njoyed the little touches: books about the little people, the little bench, the little door outside. Magical and charming. Leslie also provided a wealth of information about the town: where to hike, restaurant recommendations, etc. The quiet surroundings, the birds in the morning, the lovely porch formorning coffee all added to a great couple of days. We hiked, saw the lava glow, dinner at Lava Rock Cafe, and sandwiches from Cafe Ohia -all made for a great stay.

“Quiet Retreat”

We had a great 3 night stay here. We spent 2 entire days in the park- did multiple hikes, the glow at Jaggar Museum. Dinner at the Lava Rock Cafe exceeded our expectations, the Kalua Pork was great. We had a lovely stay and an unforgettable beginning to our honeymoon! Matthew and Laurie Lexington, KY

“A Little Slice of Heaven!”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2014

This quaint, cozy, and comfortable cottage set the bar very high for our first trip to Hawaii. Nestled away in the rainforest only minutes from Volcanoes National Park is this little slice of heaven. We stayed in Hune Mansion and it was absolutely wonderful! We felt like we were in our own home. The cottage was spotless and every amenity was available from dish soap and paper towels to full bottles of shampoo and conditioner. There was even a very detailed Visitors Guide created by the owners to give us info on local eateries and recreation. The owners' little touches to make us feel at home made all the difference! We especially enjoyed the heating stove in the living room. It kept us cozy on the chilly nights (low 40s) as did the electric blanket in the bedroom (I must get one of those!). The dehumidifier kept the rooms dry and it was easy to empty the bin. My one son has allergies and had no issues being in the cottage. The bedroom was a nice size with a large closet; the bathroom was huge! The kitchen/dining area had everything we needed (including coffee and tea) and the sofa doubled as a pull-out bed for our 2 young sons. I also liked that we had a car port for our car. There is also a full-sized W/D for those who stay at least 4 nights. We chilled out on the front porch in the brisk mornings while I sipped my coffee. The foliage was awesome! I also loved that the cottages were named after the Menehune and the story behind them; my boys especially loved learning about them as we read some of the books at bedtime. The cottage is only 35 minutes outside Hilo and about 5 minutes from Volcanoes National Park and 10 minutes from Volcanoes Winery. I highly recommend the park (Lava Tubes/End of the Road). The owners kept in close communication throughout the rental process and gave us very detailed maps and information (Mahalo, Leslie!). I'm so glad we found this cottage. We highly recommend and will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Big Island.

“Menehuene Paradise”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2013

Oct 10 We had a wonderful time at Menehune Mansions. Our friends stayed in the second cottage, it was a perfect set up for the 4 of us. Loved walking Iiwi Road every morning. Our cottage was cozy and comfy and wonderfully stocked. We would love to come back when the Park is open and stay again. Could have used a heater in the bathroom as the nights were quite chilly and it made it too hot in the living room to reach the bathroom. ps the Menehunes were quite friendly with us... we loved them all!!! “relaxing and clean one bedroom near volcano park”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2013

What a fantastically clean and cute place in the jungle near Volcano Park. We loved the decor and only hoped we could have stayed longer here. One of the best places we've been for a couple. The bed was really comfortable too. We liked the thai restaurant as well

“Looking Forward to Staying again!”

We had a great time at the Mahana Mansion! It was so very comfortable. And quiet! My husband and I have been thinking of an extreme downsize, and the layout of the cottage was inspiring! Now if we could just work on the surroundings... Everything was perfect, neat, clean, comfortable and calming. Tracy

“Relaxing, quiet hidden cottage”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2013

Sept 27 - Oct 3 What a fantastic 'almost' week we had based here in this hidden quiet cottage. We managed to explore Volcano NP and see 2 nightsof creat crater glows plus celebrate our wedding anniversary with dinner at Volcano House. Excursions to Hilo, Mauna Kea Visitor Center to view the stars, the local rainforest walk, Uncle Roberts Markets and live music at Kalapan. Even walking the local streets was interesting. Will certainly recommend to fellow travellers. Many thanks for the informative tips in the guest guide they have put together. Cliff and Gina
