“YOU DON'T GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2016

My husband and I, our 18 year old son and his grandparents (party of 5) stayed 7 days in June 2016. Our 7 night stay OVER $3000.00. Owner asked that we pay $25 per guest over 2 guests?!? So $25 extra for our son and $25 for each grandparent. Owner states and told me personally via phone that this property sleeps 9 quests, including a "BUNKHOUSE" with satellite television (a double bed and bunk beds). Upon arrival, bunkhouse (shabby garage shed) was locked and owner told us it was ONLY 'suitable' for kids. Our 80 year old, grandparents had to stay 7 nights in a worn, home depot SHED 'bunkhouse'' on a twin bed and a futon--no sheets on beds-- 'Bunkhouse' is located behind a parked trailer and the garbage can-NOT the 'BUNKHOUSE' that owner described!. When television didn't work in 'shed' owner told us to call 'Dish Network ' and get repaired ourselves. Owner stated that cabin has 100% cell service-Verizon in Estes Park confirmed this is a complete 'dead-zone'. Owner provided EXACTLY 4 TOWELS for 5 people to share for the week. Gas grill came with EMPTY propane tanks and owner suggested WE drive 45 minutes into town to get propane. 5 of the 7 nights we had to chose between a scalding hot showers OR icy cold showers-we rigged a repair, with pliers from a toolbox. Owner offered to drop a wrench by so we could repair the plumbing ourselves. Bathroom reeked of sewer. River to 'pan for gold' was a raging river not suitable for children without 24/7 supervision. Owner provided wood for EXACTLY ONE SMALL campfire-ONE night. Owner states cabin is 20 minutes from Estes Park--35-40 minutes is more truthful. Cabin has NO AIR CONDITIONING, NO DISHWASHER. Property is suitable for 4-5 people, if using the pull-out sofa in main room-ONLY. Bunkhouse was a disappointing JOKE! Cabin itself is nice and would have received higher reviews had owner been truthful about accommodations and available immediately for repairs and/or basic necessities.

Response from the owner 5 Star Reviews for Decades… The contradictory opinions of a guest’s stay can be a challenge to decipher. Opinions shared in a review are even more contentious when members of the same family communicated the exact opposite during their visit, sharing as a matter of fact, what a delight it was to stay at the cabin. The husband of the reviewer cheerfully touched base with our office on a regular basis during the family's stay. On each call, the guest had something very positive to say. The guest shared how much he and the family were enjoying their stay at the cabin. One call was a request for replacement propane, and another had to do with breaking the knob off the shower. I agreed to remedy these situations. However, the guest told me that I should not bother because they were having such a good time just the way it was. Through many years of sharing our unique and attractive cabin on the bend of the Saint Vrain River, collecting primarily 5-star reviews, one has to wonder what the motivation or state of mind the reviewer was in to compose such ill-founded opinions. If what the reviewer has written was true we would have been out of business years ago and not have received all the accolades we have, as well as repeat business. In the end, even the reviewer herself states she does like the cabin evidenced in her words, “Cabin itself is nice.” It is precisely this perspective that is the view of the majority of our guests. We take pride and care to see continuously to the needs of both our guests and the cabin itself to create a peaceful and beautiful space to relax, heal, create, and simply have fun. Please call if you have any questions regarding any of this. It’s important to us future guests have peace of mind in their choice to stay with us. We look forward to continuing to share this special place with as many guests as is possible.

“excellent family vacation”

We stayed in the enchanting River Bend retreat in July 2013 and had such a wonderful time with our two boys 6 and 8. The younger one was so inspired he composed a song for the hummingbird there on the cello. We loved the absolute privacy, the comforting sound of the creek and a perfectly equipped house, full of considerate care and thought. My personal favorite place was the swing right at the creek, writing my thoughts down every morning. We loved the breakfast in front of the house on the generous wooden table, then in the evening doing s'mores over the fireplace. My kids had the time of their life going horseback riding nearby in the mountains, and just being out in this marvellous nature all day-we will have to come back! Even though we do not know the host, the spirit of them was so enchanting and positive, that we felt like we visited a friend.

“Just perfect!”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2014

This cabin is amazing! I rented it for 2 nights with my girlfriend. The location is spectacular. It is a bit of a drive to get there from Denver, but well worth it. There are very few neighbors, almost no traffic, a beautiful little river right off the back porch, and amazing stars at night. Right from the cabin, you can hike on trails that are very close and very long. The cabin itself is beautiful. A nice mix of rustic charm and luxury, anyone can feel at home here. It has a full kitchen with all the equipment you might need to cook yourself a good meal. The bed is large and very comfortable. The bathroom well stocked and big enough to do whatever you need to do in. It has a big shower with good running water. No complaints whatsoever from me, I had an amazing time here and would highly recommend it!

“Inspiring...I love this place”

Reviewed 28 Dec 2013

As a naturalist artist I gain my inspiration from my surroundings. Being on the edge of the miandering Saint Vrain River with its magical sounds directly in the forest is as good as it gets. It reminds me a bit of my home country Norway. This cabin is clean, well kept, and central to shopping, Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Lyons, Nederland, and other exciting american Indian influenced mountain town attractions. What I like best for myself however is spending as much time at the cabin as possible. In this manner I'm able to let go of everyday stress and experience peace of mind. I wholeheartendly recommend this God inspired location to anyone needing regeneration with a desire to explore nature through the many nearby Indian walking trails, or to simply sit back and gaze at the flowing river right outside the back door. The water is chilly but I like to put my feet in it just the same. Every time I visit a River Bend Retreat I seem to find something new. Most importantly, this is a place where I'm able to get in touch with the voice within, the one that inspires greater artistic expression in my paintings, photography, and life in general. I shall return soon.

“Home away from home”

Reviewed 11 Dec 2013

We were very thankful to have found such a beautiful cabin and to be able to relax and enjoy this peaceful spot. We did not know what to expect but were thrilled when we found this quaint cabin in such a gorgeous setting. The weather was good and the river so soothing. We came up to a RiverBend Retreat for a girl's weekend of fun. We scrapbooked the entire time. We only left to buy more goodies and quickly returned to the cabin to soak up more relaxation. . We liked the open floor plan, this way all of us could be together even when two of us were cooking and the rest cutting out pictures. The Kitchen is small but has room for everything one needs. And I loved the comfy beds with the magnets, slept very deep those nights. It feels like a home away from home and all of the touches they provided makes it so welcoming! Can't wait to come back.

“Sitting on the River is the best”

Reviewed 11 Dec 2013

I came here with some of my closest friends from Germany. We all have a 'travel the world together' tradition. This was a wonderful Summer get away spot we found in a very peaceful setting-just what we were looking for. Beautiful cabin and atmosphere. Peace, warmth and tranquility are felt while sitting outside by the river. The cabin was equipped with all we needed and more, Wifi was appreciated. We got many tips from the owners were to go and what to do for fun. That way we experienced Horseback riding , wild water rafting, fishing, hiking some partying in Boulder on the Mall and more...we had a blast! But then coming back to this spot to finish the day on the river was the best. Also, the hospitality has been tremendous and so appreciated. We hope to stay here again in the near future. “A visit at a River Bend Retreat is melting stress away”

Reviewed 11 Dec 2013

This is a great Cabin. Our every hope for a relaxing spot for a retreat /reunion was met at a River Bend Retreat. The cabin has a beautiful location, cozy spots for conversations and a comfortably "homey" feel to it. - everything was perfect! Russell told me that a River Bend Retreat is a good place for healing from life's many stressors and certainly those words hold truth. We all had such a grand time. It was so nice to be able to stay here with all the family and our dogs. The private and open setting lent itself to our favorite things to do...We hiked and played games and we baked in the oven ( just a little learning curve) and grilled outside and cooked smores, and cooled our beverages in the river. We talked by the fireside at night and rested on the patio in the comfy launching chairs during the day. We laughed a lot sitting together on the dining room table watching Hummingbirds through the window coming for their nectar. And we took excursions to close by Estes Park, drove the peak to Peak Highway to Nederland and visited the Boulder Mall. In short we enjoyed ourselves and we hope to return often! Thanks so much the "de Ville Family" from Boulder.

“Ups and Downs”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2013

There are not 3 bedrooms which was a bit of a surprise. Location is nice, next to a rushing water. Like the layout of the cabin. Need a few more directions on how to work the oven. The place is not really that securely fenced in, our dog found a way out in 2 mintues. Room had an odd mildue smell due to a water pipe breaking and took 4 to 5 hours to get fixed. Overally too pricey for the experience.

Response from the owner We sincerely apologize for any misfortune you may have encountered at the cabin, for this we are truly sorry. It’s unfortunate you did not express any of your concerns when you were staying with us because we always strive to make it right. Even now you are still welcome to give us a call so we can offer you something special. A Brief Overview for New Guests: Over the past 10 years we’ve enjoyed sharing our home with guests from around the world. The cabin has two bedrooms along with an added virtual bedroom in the living room. A separate bunkhouse on the property contains a private fourth bedroom. The cabin is ideally situated on the bend of the Saint Vrain River on the edge of the Roosevelt National Forest. The cabin’s kitchen hosts an antique gas stove from the 50s, which necessitates lighting this old world charm with a match. The stove is especially sought out by the many chefs and foodies who have stayed with us. The cabin also has a modern microwave, gas grill, and charcoal grill to suit various cooking needs and styles indoor and out.  Yes, some smarter dogs have found ways of escaping the confines of the fenced in property which is constantly under active evaluation to adapt and hopefully outsmart the smartest of dogs upon their return visit. If a guest calls us with a concern of any kind we are on 24 hour mobile standby except when we travel and then a handyman is on call. Fortunately in a decade shared by many hundreds of guests we’ve only had three occurrences where we needed to carry out repairs while guests occupied the cabin. We otherwise never 'infringe' on the privacy of our guests with the exception of those three times. One time of which included a sudden leaking pipe. The cabin is continuously being updated. Most recently (right after the carpets got wet from the pipe leak), new natural wool carpeting was promptly installed. Also, newer insulated French double doors, an ergonomic Swedish foam sleeper sofa in the living room, new grills, and fire pit were recently added. If you’re curious call us and ask about our latest improvements. We pride ourselves in the cabin’s upkeep. Through all the satisfied guests we’ve hosted over the years (evidenced by guest remarks in our visitor book), we know the vast majority of our guests discover our home as a natural unique sanctuary. A special place where they can relax, escape, let their worries go, and enjoy time alone or with their family and friends. Many affectionately express, it's their home away from home, while other guests have offered to buy A River Bend Retreat so they can have it all to themselves. We however prefer our home to be a sharing place to be enjoyed and savored when the spirit calls for adventure, new discoveries and closeness to nature. A River Bend Retreat, being ideally situated here in Colorado, under the pine tress, directly on the bend of the river with private pajama access to gold panning and fly fishing along with high speed Internet, all within the ‘backyard’ of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, is fairly priced in the low medium price range. With warmth from your hosts, Russell & Rita
