It is rich in dramatic beaches, wooded valleys, moorland, rolling farmland, and hidden coves; much of it is designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The far South West is warmed by south westerly breezes from the Azores, and is one of the most unpolluted areas in Britain. It has a special, indefinable quality recognized by locals and visitors alike. Its 144 square miles still supports an active small scale farming and fishing community, with a unique beauty that draws visitors back year after year. The coastline is full of beaches, ranging from safe bathing beaches to secluded coves to wild and rocky places. Some are easily accessible and some less so. “Wonderful seaside week in Cornwall”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2013

Through Owners direct found the website for Vellandreath Cornish Cottages. Although the O.D website had shown another cottage to be available this was not the case but a rapid E mail and telephone conversation resulted in my booking Sheldrake. I was honestly told that it was not as luxurious as my first choice but that the views were better. This was absolutely right. Sheldrake is beautiful and although the bedrooms are relatively small, 3 6foot plus men and their female partners were more than adequately accommodated. The cottage is well furnished and equipped and has a superb position and views west and south west across the bay. It quite simply one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. While the booking went well, the reception was also first class, courteous and and flexible. The tractor to take luggage down and later up the hill is an absolute necessity unless you are travelling very light and are super-fit. The hill is a good climb- and not for the infirm- even unladen. There is Wi-Fi but not great. Usually we needed to go out and up the hill for phone signals (O2). We had the most wonderful week. My wife and I, our 2 children (20 and 19) and their partners all loved the week. We all vowed to return and I think my love of Sennen and the area has been p[assed on to the next generation. I cannot recommend this rental too highly.

Response from the manager Thank you for your comments. As Sheldrake is a granite building Wifi reception can depend on the device used - however we have recently adjusted the router giving to much better coverage. Mobile phone reception does depend on your service provider with some offering better reception than others. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and we hope to see you again soon. Best wishes, from all of us in Vellandreath Valley, Sennen.

“One of the best views in the whole of Cornwall”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2013

A week in Sheldrake was one of the most perfect holidays I have ever experienced. The location of the house is exceptional, with the sound of crashing waves and the most expensive sea views that you can imagine. A combination of short walks to both the beach and a delicious restaurant allowed for a nearly car free holiday. Only getting in the car twice to shop in the fantastic selection of local shops in St Just.
