“Great location but owners were rude”
My husband, sister, and brother-in-law spent 5 nights in the apt in late May. The apt was in a great location, very close to old port and eastern promenade. We were able to walk to all of our planned activities and meals. The apt was clean, in good condition, and fit the four of us comfortably. Cons: The sunlight comes in very early and not all the bedrooms have window shades and the ones that do are very thin. One bedroom had makeshift window covers which consisted of a ripped brown paper bag with drawings and clothes pins to keep it pulled down. The worst part of the apartment was the rude, inhospitable owners who tried to nickel and dime us. We did two loads of laundry during our stay and used our own detergent. After our stay, the owners contacted us stating that only 1 load of laundry is complimentary (this was stated no where in the ad or the communication we had with them) and charged us for the second load of laundry. In addition, they wanted to charge us for a "dirty" towel. We found the communication with the owners after our stay to be rude and condescending.
Response from the owner We are very sorry that these guests left disappointed, especially when they impressed upon us how perfect their accommodations were (the location, the space, the quirkiness and being able to have their DOG !) With regard to some of our creative alternatives (the shade), most people have commented favorably on the apartment’s ‘quirkiness’ and artsy flavor (see description in FlipKey write-up and other reviews). It wasn’t until they were minimally charged for their disrespect of the property and contents that they changed their minds and decided to give us a mid-range review. Considering all of the wonderful and more-than satisfied guests that have passed through this past year, we feel lucky that this is the first time we have come across guests like these - with a disregard for our rental. We wish them the best of luck!
“Enjoyed East End!”
We and our friends celebrated both our 29th anniversaries the first weekend in Nov. the East End-er was a great choice... We sincerely recommend this option over any hotel...its more like staying at a good friend's home, with everything there you need, that makes it a home. You'll enjoy the great open kitchen and the "home" attached... we enjoyed making meals, drinks, conversation and laughs here, something you'd never do comfortably in a hotel...and even with so many great eateries nearby, we could have tried... Its on the hill, with views west to the Back Cove and east to the Port. and complete view south to downtown and the sun that keeps things cheery and bright. Easy .7 mile walk down Congress to India to Middle to the Old Port shopping/restaurant area. Close access to Franklin St. to pop down to Trader Joe's for great groceries and deals on wine :-) and easy on/off I-295 for day trips to Freeport. Portland area has so much to do, anytime of year, and this is the perfect home to really make your visit in! R&L;
“Great feel and good location”
I stayed here with my husband and two small children and my mother-in-law. There was plenty of space for all of us, without feeling like we were on top of each other. The apartment is incredibly well kitted out, and has great feel to it. Stylish, but simple. Kitchen is a highlight!
“Portland Regular Hotel alternative”
I lived in Portland, and return regularly a few times a year to enjoy the city, or camp near by and enjoy the outdoors. We needed a hotel for 3, and booked a king suite for top $$$, but wanted to seek other alternatives. This was my first time booking a "private" rental and I had some reservations about how things would work out. Once we arrived at the unit we were pleasantly surprised. On street parking is easy to find, the location is convenient to the city's amenities and you can park the car and leave it for the weekend. There are some views out to the bay, excellent light through out, a great kitchen and cute bathroom. The unit was cute comfortable and clean, and would have easily accommodated 4-6 people. we wished we had actually planned a bit more time so we could have spent some time in the unit itself, friends from the area came over before heading to the city itself and everyone appreciated the space. We will still here again as a hotel alternative in the future. The cost is competitive, and if you need the space or want a kitchen its a better value for the dollar.
“great clean and well outfitted apartment”
We stayed here for four nights in July of 2012. The owners are attentive and friendly and the place is very clean and has all the amenities. Nice view of the city, in a great neighborhood.
“very hip, very comfortable apartment in perfect location in Port”
I stayed in this great 3 bedroom apartment in downtown Portland (maine) with my family of 6. Very hip, very tastefully decorated, very comfortable and extremely clean and well looked after building (with wi-fi!). The amazing kitchen has everything you need to cook in (which we did often), and there is a large, clean bathroom. The back bedroom has a great balcony which gives a great panoramic view of the city. It is on the main street in downtown Portland, accessible to literally everything including great cafes, restaurants, pubs, art galleries, shops, music venues, and plenty of street parking. The owners are great and very accessible. Not recommended for people with disabilities as it is on the 3rd floor, but otherwise would very highly recommend it to anyone who visits Portland looking for a more personal experience rather than living in a hotel.
