“What a treat!”

Reviewed 31 Mar 2013

We contacted Kathryn and Bill and got a response to our inquiry the same day. From that point on, they were available to us to help with questions, give directions, etc. The trip from the airport was a quick 10 minutes up into the cooler mountain air. The property is so lush with trees and ground cover that there might be neighbors nearby but you would never know. You can just barely see the roof of Kathryn and Bill's place through the trees from the guest house. There is a full flight of outdoor stairs to the room (above a workshop), so if mobility is a problem this won't be a good fit. We were delighted to meet the chickens who live in a coop at the base of the stairs, and the resident dogs Dude and Lola.:) The studio itself is exactly as described. It was very spacious for a family of four (including two teenagers), and clearly brand new. It was clean, bright, and felt like you were in a treehouse in the woods with all the windows. The kids slept on a the futon and we had a warm cozy bed, perfect for leaving the windows open at night while keeping warm. Our hosts had a boogie board, beach chairs and noodles for us to use, and gave us great directions to some beaches we would never have found on our own! The location is only 10 minutes away from stores, restaurants and the closest city beaches, and within a half hour of some of the more remote choices. It isn't the closest you will stay to the beach by any stretch, but it provides a great central location for exploring many different beaches and island sights. Best Part: the apartment itself, the setting, Bill and Kathryn, the central location and the price!!! Worst Part: none The only thing we missed that we wished we had access to was a washer dryer, but we knew that up front! Bottom line, if you like your privacy and peace and quiet, but want to be close to the action, and need a central location to explore, you won't find a better location. The cost of our stay v. what we got was outstanding!

“What a great place, in the rain forest no less!”

We loved this place, you are on the second story and basically wake up on the forest, with the birds singing outside. We quite and safe, with some great hiking trails right there! Wish we were still there!

Response from the owner It was great meeting you both. Thank you so much for the lovely cutting board, what a thoughtful gift. We hope you will be back. With aloha, Kathryn and Bill

We are a retired couple. My wife and I were accustomed to oceanfront accommodation when vacationing in Hawaii. When we found Kathryn and Bill's condo on Tripadvisor we thought it might be interesting. It was- and the condo and service were excellent. Also, the price is very reasonable. We stayed three weeks. The condo is surrounded by a tropical forest on three sides, with tall trees covered with vines and huge ferns growing between them. Many species of birds can be seen in the area-which really pleased my wife. There are good, convenient walking paths in the immediate vicinity and the owners, Kathryn and Bill, are warm, excellent hosts. Some people my find the 10-15 minute drive up and down the hills to get to the coast/shopping takes some getting used to. But after a few days it seemed much shorter.

Response from the owner Thanks for the nice review. It was really a pleasure getting to know you and I look forward to seeing you both on your next trip to Hawaii, A Hui Ho Kathryn

“Beats a hotel any day!”

My husband and I stayed here with our 18 month old around christmas and it was so nice! The couple who owns it lives nearby and are so accomodating. They had a pack and play, stroller, baby carrier backpack for hiking and a carseat that they let us use. The studio is gorgeous and spacious and it was nice being able to cook some nights as eating out everyday gets really expensive in Hawaii. The property is at up in the rainforest so its nice and cool after a long day at the sunny beach and has lots of lush hiking trails right out of the driveway. We will definately be back!

“A new Hawaii experience”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2012

This was my 4th trip to Hawaii and this is an area of the island I have never experienced. Close to town and beaches, but a whole different climate. Great hiking, beautiful tropical flowers, birds I have never seen before. Bill and Kathy were very helpful with information on area attractions, they helped us discover some new beaches. We are already planning our next trip. Thanks for such a wonderful experience.
