“Private house right on beautiful coral bay”
Casa Tortuga is an authentically thatched private home situated under coconut palms right on the beach. We could walk 150 yards up the beach to the local beach restaurant and simply swim out off the beach to snorkel in amongst the coral stacks of the second largest reef system in the world. Hard to beat that! We saw coral, anemones, urchins, sea stars, rays, octopus, a stunning cuttlefish, lots of live conch, and plenty of beautiful fish. The caretaker, Mauricio was absolutely fantastic and was able to help us out with everything and anything. He was there to meet us and soon had us sorted out with where everything was and how everything worked so that we immediately felt completely at home. The house was great and easily fitted the two families in our party. We very much enjoyed the low key thatch and general ambience and spent many good times both upstairs on the balcony and downstairs in the lounge chairs. There was a fair amount of sargassum seaweed on the beach but we realized that this is a phenomenon that does not occur every year and after a bit of google searching (yes, the wi-if worked great) saw that it was affecting the entire Caribbean. There is also a huge amount to do in the immediate vicinity and we snorkeled in Cenotes (Dos Ojos was a favorite), ate on the beach (enjoyed Zama's down on the southern beaches), swam with the turtles in Akumal, and climbed the pyramid in Coba! In all a fantastic family vacation!
“A beautiful, large, private home, bring the whole family!”
Casa Tortuga was a wonderful place to rest and relax or to come home to after a long day of adventure in and around Tulum. We had 4 adult couples and it was still more space than we needed. Kitchen was fully stocked with what we needed to cook our own meals and we enjoyed spending time together in the kitchen and main room preparing meals and eating and hanging out. We loved getting to use the ourdoor grill, the kayaks, the hammocks, beach chairs, etc. Gabi and Luis were excellent hosts and made us wonderful breakfasts each morning from local produce in the local styles. She also helped us set up a fishing trip and locate other services we were interested in during our stay. Would highly recommend for a family getaway as there are fun things for everybody to do, whether its hanging out and relaxing on the property or making a short drive to scuba, snorkel, hike ruins, shop, eat/drink, lounge on another beach, fish, the list goes on! Was a great place to rest and rejuvenate and still enjoy some exciting Mexican adventures.
Response from the owner We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Casa Tortuga and agree that it's the perfect place for a family or friends vacation.
“paradise - plain and simple - just paradise”
i love this place. Have been back several times-- thinking of making it an annual Pilgrimage ;}. It is the perfect blend of a semi private beach that is close enough to "town" for fun and food, but without the crowds. The beaches of Tulum are spectacular, and the beach outside of Casa Tortuga has the added benefit of being a natural lagoon-meaning you can swim or kayak to the reef and see so many things along the way. The other homes on the beach always have interesting people (if you want to meet anyone), but my favorite is sitting in the hammock surrounded by friends sipping a freshly made margarita and noshing on chips and quac. The home is lovely without feeling precious-sandy feet are allowed. And it s great for large groups as everyone has their privacy. Perfect for reading, running, shelling, long walks, exploring Mayan ruins, and moonrise party. Don't pass this up!
“Great Family Vacation House”
Casa Tortuga was perfect for our 3 generation family vacation. The location is amazingly beautiful and peaceful. It is near all the attractions. Luiz & Gabby were such great carfetakers and chefs. Luiz also gave us excellent advice on activities to do each day.
“The most relaxing holiday of my life and a billion dollar view.”
We were greeted by the friendly care takers, who cleaned as well as served us daily making sure all our needs were met. The Casa was a comfortable and fantastic place for our friends to chill out. The gorgeous views of Soliman Bay allowed our minds to reflect on how fine life is. We enjoyed the Casa's kayaks and snorkeled the warm, pristine waters. The turtles laid their eggs in front of the Casa, while we were there. Ice melts fast so buy lots of bags or keep making it with fresh water provided. It was a dream come true to experience such a remarkable home on such a picture perfect, private beach.
“Girls Getaway 2011”
We had a wonderful time at Casa Tortuga! Great house with plenty of bedroom space and bathrooms for privacy. The kitchen and living room were very comfortable also. Beautiful view of the ocean! The staff was very good too. We had everything we needed and more at this house. It is close to town and not too far from the airport. We felt safe with it being a gated community also. I recommend this place highly for families or groups of friends! Thanks for an awesome vacation Casa Tortuga!! Can't wait to go again!
“I wish I were there right now!!”
My girlfriend and I spent 10 days before Christmas at Casa Tortuga, which is located near the end of a gorgeous, crystal clear, caribbean bay. The location is very peaceful...no resorts here, just vacation/rentals homes and a couple of boutique inns. The Casa has a double lot, so an excellent private beach. Sunrises are amazing. The home is spacious and beautiful and very well equiped for preparing meals and margaritas! The town of Tulum is about a 10 minute drive south, Playa del Carmen 35 minutes north, so a rental car is a must if you want to explore the area...and there is a lot to see. Soliman Bay is quite shallow and has a coral bottom, so water shoes are advisable. There are 2 double kayaks for a 10 minute paddle out to the beautiful reef at the edge of the bay. Snorkeling is a must!! (bring your mask, snorkle & fins) The entire property is very well maintained; views, beach and bay unspoiled. I hope it never changes. Megan, Luis & Gabby were all very accomodating and wonderful to deal with. I can't wait to go back!
Fantastic view, superb house, very confortable, very calm
“Un bout de paradis!”
J'ai passé 2 semaines à la Casa Tortuga pendant les vacances de Pâques en 2003. L'endroit est vraiment idyllique! La maison est située dans un endroit très calme, directement sur une plage de sable blanc et une mer magnifique. La maison est elle aussi très agréable et surtout complètement dépaysante. Idéale pour des vacances calmes en famille, entre amis ou juste en amoureux. J'y retournerais volontiers!
“Best Mexico Vacation Ever”
I have spent a lot of time in Mexico. My favorite spot is Casa Tortuga, a comfortable and traditional casa overlooking a white sand beach and protected cove. We kayacked, snorkled, soaked up the sun, and explored Maya ruins in Tulum and Chichen Itza. Local food and drink is very good. Playa del Carmen, a charming seaside village is a short drive from Casa Tortuga. We dined on fresh fish at a table on the beach. While visiting Chichen Itza we discovered a world class hotel and retaurant hidden in the jungle near the archeological site. This is geat place to relax and recharge. We plan to return soon!
