“We loved everything about our stay at Zona Verde!”
The house had everything we needed, including a huge covered deck that was perfect for eating, relaxing and seeing/hearing the abundant wildlife. We came for the surfing and wildlife and found plenty of both. Scrappy was especially helpful. We definitely plan of coming back.
Response from the owner Glad to report new fan and increased solar array installed in Fall 2015.
“Best spot in the area!!!”
I just took 3 friends to this house and the pictures dont do it any justice. The house is beautiful in person and the yard makes the 100 yard walk to the beach a real joy. I have stayed in a different house in matopalo before and it was really hot the whole time which made my wife a little uncomfortable. This last trip was a different experience entirely due to the open air construction of the house. The caretakers are awesome and speak perfect english as well.
“Lifes Great with Waves and Wildlife.”
A getaway like no other , went there with my wife and son. We hiked, fished, surf, ate lots of good food and meet locals that were very nice and fun to hang with. I would recommend this spot to anyone !
“Total communion with the Rain Forest”
Matapalo is for those adventurers who want a slice of paradise and who prefer to be off the beaten trail. This home integrates itself with the rainforest in stead of fighting it off. The rain, the howl of the animals, the roar of the Pacific, the pristine beach, make this an ideal location to experience Costa Rica. The home is so convenient to the beaches and the rainforest trails that climb 1000 feet above to the heavily forested plateau above. This well maintained home offers a very useful kitchen, flush bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, and a nice custom dining table that is the focal point of nighttime activities. Sleeping in the upstairs is absolutely divine. During the rainy season you actually need a blanket. And incredibly, you walk out the front gate and almost onto the beach. Plan your supplies carefully because it is 40 minutes to the nearest civilization. I cannot wait to return to Jack's piece of heaven.
“surf paradise or family bonding”
I stayed here with a couple surf buddies. We were very close to awesome surf breaks. We could see tons of wildlife from the porch. It was nice and secluded- a nice change from typical Costa Rican vacation spots. I'm planning a trip with my family there next.
"Zona Verde" is a destination that rivals any place on Earth for its variation of life! The life that primarily is the most magnificent ecosystem imaginable. Jack Miller, the owner and friend has created a remarkable self-sustained house in the Osa Peninsula that is built solid. "Zona Verde" is very comfortable and has many areas to take in the abundant wildlife. The "Pura Vida" hospitality runs deep in Cabo Matapalo especially when caretakers such as Nancy and Michael "Scrappy" are there to guide you in the right direction. Our favorite direction is located just a few steps along "Zona Verde" garden pathway to Matapalo beach. The beach is refreshing for all, and especially for surfers when the swells come in. There are several other beaches to explore near by too. After a day of sun and surf it's great to come in and have a warm shower and create an authentic Costa Rican meal in the spacious kitchen with all the cooking amenities. When the lights go out,we always sleep comfortable in the beds and enjoy the nightfall. My family has been blessed to have many special times over the years staying at "Zona Verde" and the true hospitality that comes with it.I would suggest others to partake in the Osa Peninsula and experience "Zona Verde". Just remember...You don't have to go to nature.. Nature comes to you here!
“Wow!! Something for Everyone”
This Place is amazing! No matter what your desire is... fishing some of the most productive waters in Central america, Sunning on picturesque beaches, hiking though the rain forest with it's amazing wildlife and water falls or just reading a good book with the sound of the forest as background music. This place has Something for Everyone, every age...mild to wild! I could not say enough good things about it to do it justice. I would recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle... is't not absolutely necessary but certainly a lot more Fun! Enjoy it, Jim
“Matapalto a transformative experience.”
A place of exuberant biodiversity where the mountains meet the sea. Surf great waves or watch, under a canopy of tropical almonds, bands of scarlet macaws while in the distance an occasional whale breaks the surface. See many different kinds of monkeys, toucans, and wild life from the veranda in your personal hammock. Awake to exotic sounds from the cool nights to really feel the essence and splendor of a primitive habitat teeming with life. As Robin Leach would say "a unique experience not to be missed in this lifetime".
Eco hip romantic surf boutique or just a wonderful place to chill can't wait to get back again.
“Awesome Experience at Zona Verde”
The Zona Verde house in Cabo Matapalo can be described in one word "Awesome". I stayed there with three friends in april of 2013 and we had an amazing trip. Not only are there four world class right hand point breaks within walking distance but the scenery and wildlife is like no other place in Costa Rica. I was skeptical staying there because there was no air conditioning but because of all the shade provided by the beautiful landscaping the house was comfortable during the day and at night there was a cool breeze that came down the hillsides making it quite chilly at times. I would recommend this house for surfers, nature lovers and anyone looking to experience the real Costa Rica.
