“Could not have been better.”

Reviewed 6 Feb 2014

We stayed here just after Christmas and over New Year with friends in an effort to get away from it all and re-charge our batteries. It truly was a home-from-home experience. The beds were the comfiest I have ever slept in and the whole house has such a lovely relaxing atmosphere that we did quite a lot of relaxing! It's hard not to after walking all day and opening a bottle of red in front of the log burner. Vallon Cottage is ideally placed for some stunning walks literally on the doorstep and if you combine that with a visit to the local pub, The Farmyard Inn, for some of their delicious food then you won't go far wrong. To be honest I wish we'd booked another week. Will definitely go back in 2014.

Response from the owner I am so sorry that I didn't respond to your review which was such a wonderful one for Vallon Cottage. I am so pleased to hear that you had a wonderful time after Christmas and that relaxing was on your agenda, it is hard not to at Vallon isn't it. Thanks again for your really kind words and hope to welcome you back again. Ali

“Perfect spot in the Peak District”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2013

A really lovely cottage with plenty of room for 4. Inside and outside spaces very well thought out and are homely and elegant at the same time. Every need catered for and I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for such a lovely review, and more importantly I am so delighted that you had such a good stay and your needs were catered for. Thank you again, Ali

“A Lovely Getaway”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2013

Vallon Cottage is truly a lovely cottage in a lovely spot! It was charming, full of character, and had every amenity you would need--including candles for the nice soaking tub. The bedrooms were comfortable with fantastic views across the hills. The kitchen was nicely stocked with a great dining area inside and a wonderful patio garden outside. We were there on three sunny May days, and we were stunned by the beauty of the area and the views from the cottage. We were able to visit Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, and Curbar and Stanedge Edges easily from Youlgreave. The owner was easy and reliable in her communication with us, and we didn't have any problems finding or accessing the cottage. One thing I will say is that the cottage is decorated with many eclectic and interesting souvenirs and knick-knacks which make it feel homey and warm, but also are extremely tempting for little hands. We visited with our two little girls and we did have to keep a close eye on them. The owner did warn us that this may be the case, but was still willing to accommodate us, and even provided a baby gate. But this is something to think about if visiting with small children. For a party of adults, I can't imagine a more ideal place for a holiday.

Response from the owner Thank you for your lovely review and thoughts. Its great that you had such a wonderful time in Vallon and enjoyed all the history and countryside locally too. Ali

“Here you are immersed in peace and beauty in the heart of the Pe”

Reviewed 10 May 2013

For a few years we have visited Youlgrave and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Bramwell Cottage. However when we had a chance to stay at Vallon we couldn't turn down such a beautiful place. Vallon is a cottage you will want to visit again and again. From the moment we stepped over the threshold it felt warm and welcoming. From the entrance we were taken into a beautiful house where we were enveloped in peace and tranquility. Each room brought its own surprises and from the well stocked kitchen with its beautiful pottery to the library upstairs filled with an eclectic collection of books you could immerse yourself in. The master bedroom was so large and the bed sumptuously covered in beautiful furnishings. What we loved was waking up, opening the curtains and just drinking in the view from the window. The garden was full of wildlife including a cheeky squirrel, and sitting in the conservatory, with its view across the dale, made our evening special. Outside on the patio area it was lovely to sit in the sun and just chill. All in all we recommend Vallon to anyone who wants to stay somewhere very special. We both found it difficult to leave and will surely return in future.

Response from the owner Thanks so much for such a wonderful review, the cheeky squirrel is a regular visitor and brings friends too :) Looking forward to wecoming you back. Ali

“A luxury stay in one of the nicest villages of the Peak District”

Reviewed 13 Dec 2012

Nice house with big rooms, luxury bathroom, terrace with view on the valley, all rooms causy decorated. Youlgave is one of the nicest small villages in the Peak District with very friendly citizens and a small supermarket offering the basic stuff you need. Perfect stay for walkers: many public foothpaths are passing Youlgrave.

Response from the owner Thank you for your very kind words. You travelled a long way to stay so I am glad Vallon lived up to your expectations. Ali

“As good as it gets”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2012

I stayed at Vallon for three nights in November 2012 with my husband, brother and his girlfriend and we all had an absolutely fabulous time. The cottage is is stunning and is so well set up for visitors. From the huge DVD, CD and board game collection to the well stocked kitchen we had everything we needed and more. Everything is of a very high quality and the beds were so comfortable that we all slept soundly. I think what really sets Vallon apart from all the other cottages we considered staying in is the fact that it really feels like a home away from home and is filled with character rather than being purpose-built holiday accommodation. We really enjoyed being out and about in the day (we were very active doing a 17 mile bike ride one day and an 11 mile hike the following day!) and then coming back to sit by the fire with a glass of wine, cook a nice meal and play a board game! It was the perfect weekend. Ali (the cottage owner) is so friendly and helpful that she answered all our questions before we arrived. I'm so glad we chose Vallon and wouldn't hesitate in reccommending it to anyone and everyone.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for your wonderful review, and for all your recommendations. Its great when a plan comes together and it sounds as Vallon was perfect for you. Thanks again. Ali

“Everything you want in a holiday cottage”

Reviewed 18 Nov 2012

we stayed for 5 days at the end of October and wished it had been longer. The cottage was well equipped, beautiful and relaxing it was hard to make ourselves leave and walk (our original intention had been a walking holiday)There was everything you needed in the cottage and was in every way a 5 star retreat. The views from the garden were fantastic. I would definitely recommend it for a get away from it all week

Response from the owner Thank you for your lovely review, and I hope that you will join us again for more walking :) It's the perfect place to just relax isn't it and the world goes by without you even knowing. Ali
