“A dream come true!”
The condo was wonderful! Chuck & Margaret were SO friendly and accommodating! I'd love to return if only to get to know them better. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights one night and it was well worth it - so incredibly beautiful! The Alaska sky was amazing - I've never seen so many stars. I would definitely return!
The place was awesome as well Chuck and Margaret! We really enjoyed our time at the place. We hope to visit again next year.
Response from the owner Hi Jon, Thank you for the kind review. We enjoyed being your hosts. Chuck and Margaret
“Perfect Home Away From Home”
Location was excellent for viewing the Northern Lights. Condo has heated viewing areas which is great when you are up for hours looking for the Northern Lights and it's 4 degrees outside! Condo was very spacious and clean. Hosts were available if you needed anything(Thanks Chuck for being there that first night to be sure we were awake for the lights and to be sure we were looking at the right thing!). The beds were very comfy and oh so warm! Easy to get to, but if visiting when there is snow, be sure to rent an AWD or 4WD vehicle because the snow can get deep up that high. With AWD, this Southern girl who doesn't drive in the snow had no problem getting up and down the driveway. Several times. In the dark. If I can do it, anybody can! This is one of my favorite places I've stayed, and I would definitely stay here again, as well as recommend it to others. It felt like home.
“Beautiful Location - Scenery and Aurora”
The three of us traveled to Cleary Summit Condo to watch the aurora for three nights. We were rewarded with excellent and clear weather two of those three nights and took hundreds of photos of the aurora as it swirled in the sky. The surrounding area is beautiful also with this rental sitting up high. Chuck and his wife were great and the location was very clean and well-kept. We would surely stay here again.
“Best hosts ever!”
We stayed here over Christmas last year. It was a great place to view the Northern Lights and close enough to everything else we wanted to do. Our hosts could not have been more gracious. We have stayed at many vacation rentals over the years and this was by far the best experience we have had with our hosts. Chuck even took the time to explain how the lights form to our son. The house is cozy and has wonderful views. The kitchen had everything we needed.
There is absolutely not one bad thing we can say about this place. The owners were outstanding. Chuck stayed up until we got in which was very late. He also kept an eye out for the Northern Lights every night as that was our main reason to stay here. They came out on night 2 and while you could view them perfectly from the porch, stepping outside the front door was even more magnificent. A dream come true! The condo was super clean and cozy. It has all the amenities you need; hair dryer, ironing board, toaster, coffee maker, etc. The 360 degree views are simply breathtaking. There is a great telescope in the living room to view Mt. McKinley closeup; although, on clear days you can see it with the naked eye from the comfort of the comfy chairs in the living room. We could have stayed in the condo the whole time and been happy as larks, but Chuck gave us so many great ideas on places to visit and see, we had to go explore the area. We were not disappointed. Chuck is just all around a very friendly guy. My only negative is that we had to leave and the clouds came out one afternoon. We will definitely be back to this most amazing niche of heaven on Earth. And Chuck and Margaret if you want permanent residents....you know where to find us. :)
The condo was even better than described. Tons of Channels on Satelite TV. Scenic views all around. The last night there was beautiful...we could even see Mount McKinley, which is a 3 hour drive away...highest point in North America. We saw the Aurora 3 out of the 5 nights we were there. Just be careful driving to the condo on the snow/icey roads. No street lights and very slippery. As for the hosts, Margaret and Chuck were incredibly gracious. They were knowledgable about all the cool places to go to (Extra points for referring the Chattanika lodge). They lent us binoculars and tripods. They offered us warm beverage and even surprised us with blueberry pie with locally grown blue berries. Highly recommended to everyone who wants to get away from it all in Alaska!
“It's so nice, you can't wait to return.”
Margaret and Chuck treat you like family. The Condo is spacious, beautifully decorated, comfortable and provides the best views of the mountain ranges. The summit is without external light so that full visibility of the aurora is obtained. You will be up till 3:00 am every night viewing the sky. I'll be back! Ed G.
“Amazing Place & the Perfect aurora Viewing Location!”
Having visited the larger Fairbanks area in alaska for many years, the Cleary Summit Condo has always been my favorite place to stay. The condo is warm, spacious and super comfortable. The views of the alaskan Range and Mt Denali are spectacular and so are the long lasting sunsets I have witnessed from up there. This place is priceless for aurora enthusiasts and photographers, as it is located on top of a mountain and offering the best views of the Northern Lights in the Fairbanks vicinity. So there is no need to drive on icy roads for hours in the middle of the night in order to get to a good viewing location! The lovely hosts - Chuck and Margret - were always happy to help, give advice or recommend great things to do or places to visit in the area.
My family recently decided to go hunting for the Northern Lights, and Fairbanks was on the top of every list, including ours. We planned the trip fairly last minute so accommodations became a bit of a hurdle, until we were generously put in contact with Chuck and Margaret Johnson. These fantastic hosts were able to quickly re-open the "B&B;" to accommodate the three of us on such short notice. The property is as advertised, with views all around. This made it perfect to comfortably keep our attention to the skies, without fatiguing. The night we saw the Lights, we were able to take pictures without a slew of others ruining our shots. Best of all once it all ended, we hoped right back in the house and went to bed. No Commute No Shuttles! The property is also ideal for a quick trip to the city and also to make a day trip to Chenna Hot Springs; which is great for daytime adventures. For a person to see the lights a lot of luck is required, for us finding this great property was just that. If you are fortunate to make your way up here luck is already on your side!
