“Goals Were Achieved”
The location was literally a mountain summit which was perfect for seeing the Northern Lights. The condo was amazingly comfortable. There were three days of snow which shut off the Northern Lights but allowed us to visit the Museum at U of Alaska Fairbanks, go god sledding at Paw's and also see the ice sculptures and visit some lovely Pubs and eateries. Chuck and Margaret were extremely accommodating and even loaned us snow clothes to wear since we were from Texas. On the final night of our visit, just as we were giving up seeing the Lights, at 4:15 A.M. we were astonished by the most amazing light show in history! Will always remember this night and will never forget this trip. Thanks Chuck and Margaret.
“You feel as though you are family, not a guest.”
Clearly Summit Condo is an easy drive from Fairbanks, but world away. The drive takes about 30 minutes along good roads and is a scenic drive. The condo sits at the top of Cleary Summit and occupies the entire top floor. The living room and kitchen are spacious and comfortable. We had 4 adults staying here and there was plenty of room for each of us to move around or lounge around. The two bedrooms were ample and each has a private bath. There are windows on all four sides to enjoy the views in every direction and a wrap around deck if the weather cooperates. We were there the last week of February and the weather was expectedly cold. The best thing about Cleary Summit Condo is that you feel like you are family visiting home. The owners live on site and were wonderful and available, but not intrusive. We had never visited Alaska in the winter and did not know what to expect, but we had our needs anticipated and met. They had extra winter clothes for us to use. The kitchen was well stocked. They had a list of suggested activities we might want to do and places we would enjoy eating. They also made sure we knew how to navigate and avoid problems staying in sub-zero weather. Our goal for traveling to Fairbanks in February was to see the Aurora Borealis. Mother nature did not cooperate and they were never out, but we still had an incredibly wonderful time. We went snow machine riding, dog sled mushing and ice fishing. We also just relaxed in our oasis on top of Cleary Summit and immersed ourselves in the beauty around us. It is a breath taking area. We will return to Fairbanks in the winter and without doubt we will stay at Cleary Summit Condo.
“A dream come true!”
The condo was wonderful! Chuck & Margaret were SO friendly and accommodating! I'd love to return if only to get to know them better. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights one night and it was well worth it - so incredibly beautiful! The Alaska sky was amazing - I've never seen so many stars. I would definitely return!
The place was awesome as well Chuck and Margaret! We really enjoyed our time at the place. We hope to visit again next year.
Response from the owner Hi Jon, Thank you for the kind review. We enjoyed being your hosts. Chuck and Margaret
“Perfect Home Away From Home”
Location was excellent for viewing the Northern Lights. Condo has heated viewing areas which is great when you are up for hours looking for the Northern Lights and it's 4 degrees outside! Condo was very spacious and clean. Hosts were available if you needed anything(Thanks Chuck for being there that first night to be sure we were awake for the lights and to be sure we were looking at the right thing!). The beds were very comfy and oh so warm! Easy to get to, but if visiting when there is snow, be sure to rent an AWD or 4WD vehicle because the snow can get deep up that high. With AWD, this Southern girl who doesn't drive in the snow had no problem getting up and down the driveway. Several times. In the dark. If I can do it, anybody can! This is one of my favorite places I've stayed, and I would definitely stay here again, as well as recommend it to others. It felt like home.
“Beautiful Location - Scenery and Aurora”
The three of us traveled to Cleary Summit Condo to watch the aurora for three nights. We were rewarded with excellent and clear weather two of those three nights and took hundreds of photos of the aurora as it swirled in the sky. The surrounding area is beautiful also with this rental sitting up high. Chuck and his wife were great and the location was very clean and well-kept. We would surely stay here again.
“Best hosts ever!”
We stayed here over Christmas last year. It was a great place to view the Northern Lights and close enough to everything else we wanted to do. Our hosts could not have been more gracious. We have stayed at many vacation rentals over the years and this was by far the best experience we have had with our hosts. Chuck even took the time to explain how the lights form to our son. The house is cozy and has wonderful views. The kitchen had everything we needed.
There is absolutely not one bad thing we can say about this place. The owners were outstanding. Chuck stayed up until we got in which was very late. He also kept an eye out for the Northern Lights every night as that was our main reason to stay here. They came out on night 2 and while you could view them perfectly from the porch, stepping outside the front door was even more magnificent. A dream come true! The condo was super clean and cozy. It has all the amenities you need; hair dryer, ironing board, toaster, coffee maker, etc. The 360 degree views are simply breathtaking. There is a great telescope in the living room to view Mt. McKinley closeup; although, on clear days you can see it with the naked eye from the comfort of the comfy chairs in the living room. We could have stayed in the condo the whole time and been happy as larks, but Chuck gave us so many great ideas on places to visit and see, we had to go explore the area. We were not disappointed. Chuck is just all around a very friendly guy. My only negative is that we had to leave and the clouds came out one afternoon. We will definitely be back to this most amazing niche of heaven on Earth. And Chuck and Margaret if you want permanent residents....you know where to find us. :)
The condo was even better than described. Tons of Channels on Satelite TV. Scenic views all around. The last night there was beautiful...we could even see Mount McKinley, which is a 3 hour drive away...highest point in North America. We saw the Aurora 3 out of the 5 nights we were there. Just be careful driving to the condo on the snow/icey roads. No street lights and very slippery. As for the hosts, Margaret and Chuck were incredibly gracious. They were knowledgable about all the cool places to go to (Extra points for referring the Chattanika lodge). They lent us binoculars and tripods. They offered us warm beverage and even surprised us with blueberry pie with locally grown blue berries. Highly recommended to everyone who wants to get away from it all in Alaska!
“It's so nice, you can't wait to return.”
Margaret and Chuck treat you like family. The Condo is spacious, beautifully decorated, comfortable and provides the best views of the mountain ranges. The summit is without external light so that full visibility of the aurora is obtained. You will be up till 3:00 am every night viewing the sky. I'll be back! Ed G.
