“TLC required”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2016

When we arrived we had to take photos to document damages to assure our security deposit wasn't in jeopardy of being returned (it was returned). The carpet was stained, many dings in the walls and large holes in the screens. The fireplace pictured in the listing had a do not use sign on it upon arrival. During our stay we had a towel bar fall off (I repaired), another hanging loose from the wall and a toilet handle that falls off. We tried cooking and could not find any type of measuring cups. There was wi fi and the Direct TV worked well, but written instructions would have been appreciated. We have stayed in vaction rentals all over the country at this price point and this property is not priced appropriately. We booked well in advance at $120/night and the owner did reduce us to $110/night after we discovered that he dropped the rate to $70, which he would not give to us. This property is not competitively priced for fall rentals. The condition of the property might appeal to college students but at $120 a night some TLC needs to be put into the property to bring it up to a decent vacation rental. Very disappointing.

“A piece of heaven !!”

Wonderful peaceful place to say with so much privacy ! Away from everything but so close to anywhere you want to go in Cooperstown area ! We went there for induction week and was less than a ten minute drive to ceremony . The family are so efficient and we were not in need of anything ! If you love dogs , you will love theirs and don't be surprised if they pop over for a visit and a cuddle ! You will feel at one with nature there . Although I went there with a bunch of friends , I would definitely recommend it for families also ! And when you're in town , stop into the store named " river wood " .. The son is manager there and was kind enough to give us a 15% discount due to us staying on the property ! Ask for Todd ! Will definitely be back ! Just one tip , there are two entrances to the property ... Take the longer way ( by Cornish hen road I believe is the name ) ... The other road is a seasonal road and is quite steep and loose gravel where the other entrance is easier ! Enjoy your stay ! You're gonna love it !

Response from the owner Thank you for your enthusiastic review of "Sleepy Hollow"! We love sharing our 100 acres with visitors from all over the world.

“Be in the woods but still so close to Cooperstown”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2013

We had such a lovely visit here. The house is only about a 5 to 10 minute drive from downtown Cooperstown, but you get to be out in the woods on an absolutely beautiful property with acres and acres of private hiking trails. The house was well equiped with dishes, linens, towels, etc. There are two bed rooms with regular beds and a third with bunkbeds. With two full bathrooms the place very easily accomodated 4 adults. Rick and Barbara were gracious hosts showing us around the property and offering advice on where to go/how to get around. The price was fantastic. Much cheaper than the b and b's in town and there was a kitchen so you could make your own meals. I really highly recommend this place!
