“Wonderful relaxing holiday”
Having recently returned from a short break at Le Chalet I can honestly say it was one of the most relaxing holidays I've ever had. Its location is stunning, with lovely views that you never seem to get bored of and to put the icing on the cake the weather was amazing. If you want to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life this is the place to go to. As keen hikers we also found many exhilarating walks literally on our doorstep. The accommodation was also everything we had hoped for and it comfortably accommodated 5 adults. I also enjoyed very much a visit to Carcassonne and its historic citadel where the food we had for lunch was 5 star in quality and value. The nearby ax-les-Thermes is also worth a visit. My lasting memory of the trip? Siting outside on the deck at Le Chalet eating a lunch comprising of local cheeses, washed down with wine and enjoying the view of the mountain whilst an eagle soared across the sky. I am already planning our return trip for next year and can't wait to go back.
“Great location to explore the rich diversity of Languedoc”
A great week at Le Chalet - excellent for chilling and hiking around Le Chalet in the hills of Lescale and historic Puivert, to taking a mid-week adventure to nearby stunning Carcassone and onto the hustle and bustle of Montpellier out near the Med. Le Chalet sits in an amazing location to explore the rich diversity of the Languedoc region, from the high pyrenees of nearby andorra, the Cathar castles, to the relaxing villages of the Corbieres wineries. Do not miss a meal out at Hotel de France in nearby Chalabre (20 mins) - the cuisine made for an excellent end to a fantastic week.
“great base from which to explore the Pyrenees”
We stayed at the Chalet enjoying a serene and beautiful location. It was a perfect place to relax and enjoy the French countryside and mountains. The Maquis headquarters in Picasel was a favourite of ours. The house was comfortable. We liked the living room and Simon Schama videos on the history of Britain. All the basics were covered in the kitchen. Fresh bread is available in the village. The bathrooms were a bit cramped but sufficient for a holiday place. The lake down at the camp site is more of a large pond but is an enjoyable place to hang out at in the evening for an al fresco meal.
“Tour De France Country”
– Chalet – surprisingly spacious for 4 adults and three children. Ideal quiet, peaceful location for us re walks, cycling, birdwatching and eating al fresco utilising the chalet bbq. Very comfortably furnished and with two bathrooms meant that no-one was having to hold on! Spacious garage handy for keeping the bikes overnight. A short drive to the beach/lake and village centre. Location handy to Toulouse airport. 2) – Beach/Lake – wonderful for children and felt like we were on the beach. We felt very safe with the children although they are all strong swimmers. However, the permanent lifeguard presence meant that we would recommended to families with younger children. We also enjoyed fishing the lake and having fun on the pedaloes. The cafe at the lake very handy for midday lunch, drinks and ice creams and also useful to have toilet facilities if spending the day there. 3) – Soiree – This was lovely and envious of this French village activity that brought the local folk together to eat, drink and be merry once a week. 4) – Area steeped in history – Carcassonne, Holy Grail, Montsegur, Cathars. 5) – Cycling – stunning mountain scenery with a number of Tour De France climbs within a 100 mile round trip. (Although I didn’t cycle it I think the Quillan climb is particularly good/scenic. Smooth tarmac roads that are a joy to cycle on through forests and corn fields with an occasional passing car. Would make it safe for a cycling group to use as a base. 6) – Bird watching – Benellis Eagles souring on the afternoon thermals – binoculars really useful to enjoy the variety of birds and wild life. 7) – Walks – peaceful and idyllic through forests and past streams without even having to go near the car. 8) – We ould like to return one winter and use Le Chalet as a base for a skiing holiday as only 45 minutes drive to the slopes. We will definitely return as a family and maybe with some fellow cyclists.
“A memorable holiday”
The chalet was clean on arrival and we had a very comfortable stay. The location was ideal. We were in a beautiful mountainous region and a short distance from a lake which was great for swimming and boating. There was a large grassy area around the lake for sunbathing and picnics, and cafe nearby. The area is good for runners, walkers and cyclists, also great for wildlife. We found plenty of restaurants when we wanted to eat out. The kitchen at the chalet was well equipped and so we also had some enjoyable meals there. We went to a soiree one evening in Puivert, which they have every week, where you taste local produce and meet up with locals and other holidaymakers. We did quite a bit sightseeing. Went to Carcassonne, Montsegur, where there is an amazing climb up to the chateau, and Mirepoix. We had wonderful weather while we were there and at the end of our holiday said that we would make plans to stay there again.
“A "Step Back In Time"”
In March of 2009, I spent a delightful 5 days at “Le Chalet” with several friends. The weather was unusually warm and gorgeous for that time of the year, so not only did we enjoy picnics by the lake close by, but even ventured on a one day ski trip to Ax-les-Thermes and a wonderful hike to the very top of the castle of Montsegur! “Le Chalet” is perfectly located in a scenic French village near Puivert, complete with a lake, church and old chateau nearby. Colette Gouvion summed up perfectly the special atmosphere which pervades Puivert when she wrote in “Chateaux et Sites du Moyen Age”: “In the Languedoc, there are chateaux that cry out, but Puivert sings”. For all of us, time seemed to have come to a screeching halt during our stay... we agreed that we felt that we had jumped back in time. Our five days seemed endless, while enjoying peace in the foothills of the Pyrenees, rest in this very comfortable chalet, and amazing French food and wine! The fond memories of unforgettable serenity amidst the surrounding countryside of Lescale will never leave me. The numerous cows were my favorite, especially when they wandered on your front lawn! “Le Chalet” is definitely the place to relax, to enjoy winter and summer sports, to appreciate fine French wine and cuisine, to visit medieval towns and castles and to "step back in time"! “The BEST time I have had in France”
We ( 6 buddies) stayed in the Chalet the second week in March last year. I don't know where to start!! The chalet is beautiful and very spacious. Two large bedrooms with baths on the first floor, 2 bedrooms with a third room with bunk beds and a toilet on the second floor. Big kitchen and dining room table with gathering room and fireplace filled with books and CD and DVD player. We cooked cozy dinners at the chalet 3 nights of five. Grocery shopping close. Wonderful sight-seeing, skiing, hiking all close to the chalet. Beautiful pond in town to have a romantic lunch beside. Fine, authentic French dining close with such friendly people. Great shopping. I went running in the morning--- BEAUTIFUL-- mist in the mountains in the distance, cows with big brown eyes, friendly farmers and Australian shepards and mutts minding the farms... hardly any cars to worry about! Really, really peaceful and so condusive to visiting, reading, thinking. I loved this home and the town and the location.
“Peace in the montains”
The entire holiday went smothly from booking to our last day. The location was perfect for us, as we wanted peace, beauty and an unspoilt part of France to explore - Le Chalet gave us all of this. Only about 20 mins drive from a supermarket where you can stock up and then hunker down back in Puivert. Part we loved the most was exploring the pine forest trails as trodden by the heroic Macais during WWII. Next time we visit I will definely try the glider expereince through the valley, and we will be back!!!
“Perfect Get Away”
Great place to get away and relax. Charming building with all amenities you need. Beautiful surroundings with very interesting and historic places to visit within an hour drive. If you want to "recharge" this is the perfect place. Having a car is a must.
“Beautiful chalet and superb location !”
Le Chalet is situated in the small town of Puivert. Puivert has a wonderful lake, just a kilometre or so from the chalet. As we have a young family we spent many days swimming in the lake and sitting on the beach. The views from the chalet are unmatchable, with far reaching views of mountains and the countryside. The chalet is very well equipped and modern (as it's been newly refurbished). It was very clean and had all the mod cons that you need for a 2 week holiday. I would certainly recommend Le Chalet to friends.. we are planning our return trip for this summer.
