“Most beautiful relaxing place ever!!!”
Oh goodness, I do not even know where to start! This place is fantastic! absolutely the perfect place for a couple's romantic get away! And Anne is the absolute best host ever! Also love their dog Joe and her nice husband. They are all around great people. I just could never say enough about this gorgeous peaceful place! We will most definitely be back! I really hated leaving this place and I believe I left part of my heart there! If you are looking for a romantic, peaceful, gorgeous get away this is it! Thank you so much Anne for such a wonderful stay at your beautiful cottage!
Response from the owner We just loved having you here, and are truly looking forward to welcoming you back! You are the kind of guests that make us so glad we open our hearts and home, and we are very grateful you chose us for your special weekend. Joe sends wags and barks!
“Wonderfully Cozy Cottage”
An absolutely perfect spot to stay for our 15th wedding anniversary. The hostess, Anne, was amazing! We were greeted with a bottle of wine and some fantastic cheese on our first night and that was such a welcome respite after a 4.5 hour drive. Not far at all from Charlottsville and great recommendations for restaurants and activities. Breakfast was fantastic! It was probably the most comfortable bed in which I have ever slept!
Response from the owner Thank you so much! We loved hosting you and hope you'll brave that (very) long drive again! All Best, Anne
We knew driving out to Sunnybank that it would be the perfect place to disconnect and unwind. The scenic drive led to a beautiful, historic home on picturesque grounds. The cottage is attached to the main home but very private and visitors are welcome to explore the property, including the pool area, side gardens, wooded trails and more. Our hosts Anne and Jim were incredibly kind and thoughtful, always accessible and never intrusive. We enjoyed chatting with them and you can't help but love their adorable dog, Joe. We had everything we could have needed for our stay in the upscale cottage that was also luxuriously rustic. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and cheese plate on our porch upon check-in and were spoiled with the baked goodies Anne left for both nights of our stay as bedtime treats. We also enjoyed the well-stocked breakfast items including yogurt/granola, cereal, muffins, coffee and juices. A nice soak in the clawfoot tub and two dreamy nights on an incredibly comfortable bed melted away nearly all my stress! I wish we had been able to stay longer- we unfortunately didn't get to enjoy the pool as the weather the prior week had been chilly and rainy and the water temperatures were only in the upper 70's. This gives us great reason to return and we hope to!
Response from the owner We wish you had been able to stay longer, too--Joe was bereft when you left! Hurry back!
Our stay at The Cottage at Sunnybank was exactly what the doctor ordered. An absolutely stunning location and wonderful hosts who strike a perfect balance between providing ample privacy and wonderful service. I would highly recommend considering this spot for your next visit to the Charlottesville area.
Response from the owner Thank you so much for your very kind review--it was a real treat to have you here.
“Serene and welcoming”
My husband and I stayed at The Cottage at Sunnybank a few weeks ago and could not have been more pleased. It feels quite remote but is a short drive to restaurants, wineries, and more. No need to drive for scenery, it's right outside the door! Beautiful historic property, comfortable room, and a very, very gracious hostess in anne Novak, who provides great snacks and a breakfast and excellent advice on the local attractions. She is there to help, but gives you lots of privacy as well. Be aware that accessing the property involves some dark and gravel roads (less intimidating after you get your bearings). Bathroom is lovely and well equipped, but does not have a shower -- though it has a beautiful claw foot tub with a shower attachment. We look forward to returning!
Response from the owner Thank you for your lovely review, Marianne--we are very much looking forward to your return!
I had always been somewhat skeptical about staying at a B&B; because of privacy issues. This charming cottage is located in a separate area from the main living quarters of the house. It is located about 20 minutes from Charlottesville and has stunning views. Jim and anne were attentive but not intrusive. Their suggestions regarding things to do were spot on. Coffee on our porch in the mornings provided a view of the land as well as the flowing river. Tastefully decorated room with a very comfortable bed. My favorite things were the scrumptious surprises that would magically appear at our door as well as the pool. We will definitely return.
Response from the owner Thank you so much! You know you are always welcome!
I needed a place to renew, refresh, and restore after care taking for my husband that had cancer this past year. The Cottage at Sunnybank was the perfect place to renew my joy! Simple and clean. The surroundings are breathtaking from a creek at the end of the property, to historic land markings, surrounded by beautiful green hills. Ann was super attentive...when I mentioned taking a walk after the rain, a pair of rain boots and socks appeared on my doorstep! All the food provided was high end, quality...I became addicted to the granola! The bed was comfy and the sheets felt elegant...I am clueless when it comes to directions, but my hostess furnished me with hand drawn maps, including places to park, and sights to see in Charlottesville. It was a quiet, reflective time...I fell in love with my surroundings and hope to visit soon with my hubby!
Response from the owner We are so looking forward to your return! Thank you for the lovely comments; promise to stock your favorite granola!
“Delightful Virginia retreat”
My fiancé and I recently stayed in ann's cottage while visiting wedding venues in and around Charlottesville. She was the most thoughtful, attentive hostess- when we mentioned that we wanted to go hiking around the property, she immediately produced bug spray for our trek. We both had the best time relaxing by the pool, snacking on the goodies left in the mini-fridge. It's always great to visit Charlottesville, and we especially can't wait to return to the Cottage at Sunnybank.
Response from the owner Thank you so much!! We're all looking forward to your return visit!
“Idyllic - excellent!!!”
If your travels allow for a leisurely stay in the Charlottesville, Va area, then put The Cottage at Sunnybank on your must stay list. I stayed at the cottage 5/17 - 5/20/13 during my niece's graduation weekend from UVa. Thanks to the cottage, and the Novaks, I enjoyed a truly peaceful and wonderful weekend amid all the chaos that is family and graduation events. Close enough to the campus, near enough to the town and all it has to offer, while being far enough away from everything that our day-to-day lives are usually about. Set on a historic farm, you can wander around the grounds and explore, or spend a peaceful afternoon on the back porch. The cottage is just plain sweet; great fireplace, wonderful bed! I really, really loved this place, and the Novaks. I plan to visit again this year.
Response from the owner Thank you for your lovely review, Phyllis--we are really looking forward to your next visit!
“Amazing and one of a kind :)”
A friend and I decided to take a trip out to Charlotesville area, and anne's place was phenomenal to stay at, and anne and her husband seem like pretty amazing individuals. We ended up checking in at about 10PM because of a long day at work prior, but anne didn't mind waiting up for us to greet us and get us situated. The room was extremely homey, and breakfast was amazing to wake up to. I'm definitely planning on returning soon :)
Response from the owner Thank you, Dylan! We loved having you both--you are always welcome here.
