“Work Hard but don't forget to "Rest Hard"”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2014

About three years ago, our daughter-in-law searched the web for a "new place" to try in Hayward to practice for the upcoming Birkie. She came across a website that caught her eye: Cresthill Resort, "Welcomes You". The rest is history. I've had experiences in Hayward since the early 50's when my Dad was a summer camp counselor. Since that time, I'd like to think that my family has epitomized the Birkie saying of: Ski, Run (now maybe walk is more appropriate), Bike, and live. Yes, we're all outdoor enthusiasts. It's only over the past couple of years that I'm beginning to learn what the last word in the Birkie phrase actually means: live. To fish the beautiful lakes (the resort is on Placid Lake), bike the rolling scenic trails, walk, hike and ski the Birkie Trail, and kayak the Namekagon River; there is no doubt every eventful day can leave you inspired but fatigued from a long and fun day. A good meal and a couple of beverages and sleeping always comes easy. In hindsight, what was missing was taking the time to notice the sun rises and sunsets over the tree lined Placid Lake coupled with the loons reminding us that we're all guests in a bigger playground. Along with enjoying coffee in the morning while watching the playful baby otters and in the evening a fire in the perfectly placed fire pit (the sunsets are picturesque) while we get together and rehash the perfect day and plan a repeat performance. Did I fail to say that we can enjoy a few minutes in the sauna before making a fire? Last but not least are the owners of the Cresthill Resort. Kay and Scott are the ultimate conductors/concierges/hosts/friends of this establishment that have truly "expanded" our Birkie "Lives". When we stay there, the pace is aggressive but we "stop and look" and it's amazing what we get to see! Thanks Kay and Scott. See you later this summer.

“Great place to stay all year round”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2014

This is my second year renting from Scott and Kay. I work in Hayward so I rent from them during the off-season (appr 9 months) and travel during the summer. I feel very lucky that I was able to find such a great place to stay. One of the things I appreciate the most is that it is quiet on and off the lake. Mostly I find the lake is used for swimming and fishing. There aren't jet skis or snowmobiles zipping around all day. I like that. Just my personal preference. There are great country roads around the place that I use for jogging on. Also the Birkie and single trac trails are only a short drive away if you are looking to get out in the woods. The place is very comfortable and clean. Scott and Kay are great people to know - flexible, friendly and extremely helpful. Prior to moving here I lived on a large lake with cabins tightly fitted against each other. This has the feel of an old-fashioned, woodsy resort and reminds me of the best parts of summer vacation as a kid. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

“Fun in the Sun”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2013

A wonderful place to stay--Very clean, comfortable and affordable. Beautiful lake view-especially at sunset! The beach area was perfect for swimming with our kids and bonfire fun at night. We were able to kayak and paddle boat around the lake and up the flowage as well as enjoy beautiful sunset cruises on the pontoon. Cabin was comfortable for our family and friends to relax and enjoy! Close to town (and the candy store) as well as the birkie trail for hiking/mountain biking. Definitely will go back again!

Response from the manager We look forward to your family returning for another year of fun at the lake.
